July 2299 - News and Notes - July 15
Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski 15 July 2299 - Ninjas Top Yao Guai, 7-6 Hose Wallcrawler did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the FHE Yao Guai from losing, 7-6, to the Egret Ninjas at Fallon Field at Egret Tours Marina. Wallcrawler hit 2 home runs. He scored 3 runs and drove in 4. Egret reliever Elijah Huge picked up the win, upping his record to 2-0. Dave Crowfoot absorbed the loss. Egret is now riding a 3-game win streak. When he came to bat in the bottom of the 11th, Tipitino Funny had a chance to end it. FHE pitcher Dave Crowfoot had other ideas. But with no outs, Funny hit a walk-off run-scoring single. The Ninjas had the win. "We had the game right there for the taking," said FHE manager David Meatcook. "But we decided not to take it." 15 July 2299 - Party Boys Rough Up Bloodbugs, 10-3 A 5-RBI performance from right fielder Jonathan Angelou, who is tied for 6th in the NCA with a .424 on-base percentage, led the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys to a win over the County Crossing Bloodbugs, 10-3. Nordhagen Beach pitcher Accident John got the win, upping his record to 2-0. Danny Neikirk got the loss. Nordhagen Beach raised its record to 52-20 with the win. Angelou had a big hit for Nordhagen Beach with one out in the bottom of the third. With Nordhagen Beach leading 2-1, Angelou hit a 3-run home run. It was his 14th home run of the season and put the Party Boys up, 5-1. "I'm just happy to help the team win," Angelou told the Nordhagen Beach News. 15 July 2299 - Malone Tosses 7-0 Shutout Against Warwick Quentin Malone put a hex on the Warwick Mirelurks in a sparkling 7-0 shutout performance, mesmerizing them on a 5-hit gem. "I felt good physically," he said after the game. "Everything's comfortable. You should pitch well when that's the case." The Mirelurks were anything but comfortable against the 29-year-old University Point Deathclaws hurler, who fanned 4 and gave up 0 walks. "Malone used his changeup very well, very effectively," said opposing manager Old Man Langford. "He threw it in hitter's counts." Season-to-date Malone has rung up 8 wins and 7 losses in 18 appearances. He has an ERA of 3.09 and has fanned 106 batters in 131 innings. 15 July 2299 - Silver Shroud Pull Off Thrilling 8-5 Win in Extras Concord left fielder Dan Erb had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Erb went 4 for 5 with a home run, a double, 2 singles, and a walk, even as Fort Hagen beat the Radstags, 8-5, in 11 innings. The winner was Fort Hagen reliever Radscorpion Johnson, now 2-2. The loser was Giving Tree. With the victory, the Silver Shroud upped their record to 46-26. Paul Grog had the most critical at-bat for Fort Hagen. With two in the top of the 11th inning, Grog hit a 3-1 cutter from Giving Tree for a run-scoring single. It put Fort Hagen in front, 6-5. "This is a very good team," said Grog. "We have the chance to do something special." 15 July 2299 - Dominant Performance by Powers in Diamond City Win Tyler Powers pitched a gem to lead Diamond City to victory over the Oberland T-51s, 7-1. Diamond City, at 50-22, is 11 games up in the South Charles Association Railroad League. Oberland could barely put a dent in Powers. The right-hander tossed 118 pitches over 7.2 innings for the Swatters, allowing only 4 hits. Powers called the triumph "a good team win." 15 July 2299 - Bullets' Hit Streak Reaches 35 Games Alec Bullets has been ripping hits every day for a while now, and nobody seems able to stop him. The Starlight second baseman picked up 1 more today against the Sunshine Tidings Chemists and now has a 35-game hitting streak. The Lady Killers won the game 7-5. "Definitely somebody's going to stop me at some point," he said later, chuckling. "I'll enjoy it for the time being." Alec Bullets walked in the 1st, grounded out in the 4th, grounded out in the 6th and hit an RBI single in the 7th. Thus far this year Bullets has hit .326 with 6 home runs and 42 RBIs. 15 July 2299 - Corsica Boosts Hit Streak to 25 Games Win or lose, Frank Corsica just keeps on getting base hits -- game after game after game. He picked up 1 more today and has now stretched his hitting streak to 25 games. The Sunshine Tidings Chemists center fielder went 1-for-3 today, but it wasn't enough to win the game. His club was defeated 7-5 by the Starlight Lady Killers at ArcJet Systems Stadium. "It's amazing to watch him hit right now, but I don't think anybody's really mentioning it," one of his teammates said. "We just don't want to jinx him." Frank Corsica hit a sac fly in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, grounded out in the 5th and grounded out in the 7th. Corsica is hitting at a .380 mark this season. His stats show 5 home runs, 36 RBIs and 46 runs scored. He has played 72 games for the Chemists.

July 2299 - News and Notes - July 16
Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski 16 July 2299 - Pettinato Powers Gunners Offense The Quincy Gunners beat the Atom Cats, 11-8, at The Stone House. Quincy third baseman Ben Pettinato had an outstanding performance. He went 4-5 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 4. The winner in relief was Michael Thawt. He is now 2-2. The right-hander allowed 1 run on 1 hit in 1.1 innings. The win puts Quincy at 39-34 this season. The game hit a turning point in the bottom of the sixth inning, when the Gunners were trailing 7-6. Stuart Costantino delivered a two-out 2-run double for Quincy, catapulting his team into the lead. "We swung the bats good throughout the lineup," said Quincy skipper Kevin Banner. 16 July 2299 - Hope Lays Hammer Down in 1-0 Win In a well-pitched game between the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud and the Concord Radstags, pitcher Matt Hope was fantastic. The Fort Hagen right-hander helped his team secure the win, 1-0. Curtis Thriceshot was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 21 of 24 save opportunities. Fort Hagen now has a record of 47-26 with the win. Hope, the Fort Hagen right-hander, went 8.1 innings, allowing no runs on 3 hits. He collected 10 strikeouts. "If you ever get this game figured out," said Concord manager Mark Gourdroot, "let me know." 16 July 2299 - Party Boys Flame Out Against Rickashaw, Bloodbugs Jeff Rickashaw was in a mood to talk following the County Crossing Bloodbugs contest against the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys, expounding to BNN reporters on his pitching philosophy. He had good reason to be excitable, having tossed a complete game shutout of the Party Boys, 3-0. "There are three important elements in pitching success: location, location, and location," Rickashaw said. "I was hitting my spots time and time again." The right-hander blanked Nordhagen Beach on a 5-hitter, allowing 2 walks and racking up 6 strikeouts. In 16 starts this season, Rickashaw has recorded 3 wins and absorbed 7 losses. He has pitched 105.1 innings, allowed 132 hits, struck out 62 and has a 5.47 ERA. 16 July 2299 - Swatters Defeat T-51s, 5-4, in 11 Diamond City beat Oberland at Graygarden Park, escaping with a 5-4 win in 11 innings. The win in large part was due to shortstop Wally Warwick. He went 2 for 4 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. The South Charles Association Railroad League-leading Swatters have a record of 51-22. Diamond City took advantage of an error in the top of the 11th inning. The game was tied, 4-4, when Tyler Ross hit a run-scoring single that was misplayed. It put Diamond City in front, 5-4. "We battled our tails off to get this win," said Diamond City manager Bucky Bachelor. 16 July 2299 - Dwellers Walk It Off for 37th Win of Season The Roxbury Knuckle Punchers got a sterling performance from pitcher Tyler Shuster, but the Vault 81 Dwellers still prevailed, 7-4. Shuster threw 8 innings of 4-hit ball. With the win, Vault 81 upped its record to 37-36. Chris Van Benschoten was the walk-off hero for Vault 81. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Dwellers left fielder hit a dramatic 3-run home run, his Lucky 13th, to send the teams home. "We'll relax tonight and get back after it tomorrow," Van Benschoten said after the game. 16 July 2299 - Chemists End Bullets' Streak Alec Bullets, second baseman for the Starlight Lady Killers, gave it a good try, but his time chasing history came to an end when he went hitless in 2 tries against the Sunshine Tidings Chemists today. Not only did the Chemists break his 35-game hitting streak, they also beat Starlight by the score of 8-1. "Now that the streak has ended, I can admit I'll breathe a bit easier the next time I step up to bat," Bullets said, speaking with the media after the game. "It was tough because I put a little pressure on myself. Now that it's over, I will definitely be a little bit looser at the plate." Thus far this year Bullets has hit .323 with 6 home runs and 43 RBIs.

Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski 17 July 2299 - Quincy's Thawt Runs into a Pinkie Quincy reliever Micahel Thawt was minding his own business near the swamps southwest of Quincy when he awoke a surprise creature: one of Suffolk County Charter School's wandering pink ghouls. Before Thawt could retrieve his trust machete, though, the beast was upon him, slashing and biting. Thawt was able to break free, but not before he suffered multiple bites and scratches. Once he was able to retrieve his machete, he first took out the ghoul's knee before removing its head from its body. 17 July 2299 - Mutfruit North Charles Association's Hottest Hitter It's always a thrill for fans of the team and students of the game alike when a superstar in the making shows what he's got. Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski 17 July 2299 - Author Honored by Commonwealth Association It can be difficult for a young player to step out of the shadows and assert himself in the Commonwealth Association, but last week Yip-Yip Author of the C.I.T. Ruins Refractors reminded everyone just why he's here as he threw up numbers that made him an easy selection for Player of the Week. Author rocked opposing pitching for a .571 average (8-for-14), 1 home run and 4 RBIs to come away with the award. This season Author is hitting .318 with 2 home runs. 17 July 2299 - Funke Pounds MA Pitchers This Week So far in his young career, Karl Funke has kept a low profile, but after his performance at the plate last week, he attracted the notice of the rest of the Massachusetts Association in a big way as he was named the Player of the Week today for his efforts. The 21-year-old Cabot House Rayguns center fielder hit at a torrid .455 clip as he collected 5 hits in 11 at-bats, 3 home runs, 5 RBIs and 5 runs scored. Another CL team, the Union Hope Lifegivers (#24), is the worst in the last 10 with a 1-9 mark. 2299 - Week 15 - The Week in Review, Part 1
Analysis
With a 3-2 week, including a split at Oberland (#12) and a series win versus Jamaica Plain (#16), Goodneighbor leapgulps Nordhagen Beach (#2) and Diamond City (#3) for the top seed in the Power Rankings. The Party Boys also went 3-2 to maintain the top record in the CBO. They split at Sunshine Tidings (#20) and then beat up on County Crossing (#21) two straight games before conceding the third. Likewise, the Swatters were 3-2, splitting with University Point (#11) before beating the T-50s in the weekend series, including a 14-inning loss in Game One. Perhaps, the Swatters had the best week? Whatever it is, those three teams are no-doubt 1-2-3 in the Power Rankings regardless of order. Fort Hagen, Starlight, Abernathy, and Lexington take up the next four spots, giving more credence to the power of the Institute League race in the last seven weeks of the season. Atom returns to its rightful place at the bottom of the Power Rankings, with Easy Town back at #23. Today, we'll break down the Assaultrons' league, the Brotherhood League. While Easy Town made the playoffs and reached the Sole Survivor Series last season, they are out of the race this season. Weekly Team Power Rankings Here are the current team power rankings for Commonwealth Baseball Organization: Teams (Total Points, Tendency): 1) Goodneighbor Hancocks (134.2, +2) 2) Nordhagen Beach Party Boys (131.2, -1) 3) Diamond City Swatters (129.8, -1) 4) Fort Hagen Silver Shroud (117.9, o) 5) Starlight Lady Killers (104.1, +1) 6) Abernathy Adamantium (99.6, +3) 7) Lexington Synths (99.2, -2) 8) Quincy Gunners (98.2, +2) 9) Vault 81 Dwellers (95.2, -1) 10) Salem Witch Hats (95.2, -3) 11) University Point Deathclaws (94.2, +1) 12) Oberland T-51s (92.2, -1) 13) The Slog Ghouls (89.8, o) 14) FHE Yao Guai (84.4, +1) 15) Egret Ninjas (82.8, +1) 16) Jamaica Plain Red Rockets (80.3, -2) 17) Finch Farm Four Leafs (75.0, +2) 18) Warwick Mirelurks (72.5, -1) 19) Concord Radstags (72.4, -1) 20) Sunshine Tidings Chemists (68.5, +3) 21) County Crossing Bloodbugs (66.0, +1) 22) Roxbury Knuckle Punchers (65.0, +2) 23) Easy Town Assaultrons (61.1, -3) 24) Atom Cats (51.2, -3) Standings and Stats

2299 - Week 15 - The Week in Review, Part 2
All in the Family: Breaking Down the Brotherhood League
With Nordhagen Beach pushing its Magic# to 23 with just 35 games remaining, the league race is just one of the wildcards. Salem (#10) trails by 13 games, but leads The Slog (#13) by three games. Finch Farm (#17), the Bloodbugs, and the Assaultrons are all pretty much out of it, though a big run with the Witch Hats going cold could change that. The Party Boys are the leaders in the NCA in both runs scored (398) and runs allowed (268), meaning they are dominant and the overwhelming favorites to win the NCA in 2299. While they do not seem to have a pitcher competing for the Vim! Pitcher Award, they do indeed have a top competitor for the Nuka-Hitter Award. CF Ryan Combs (.392/.476/.612) is having an outstanding season, currently leading the CBO in WAR (5.0) at a full 0.7 points better than the next best, Goodneighbor's Bryan Assman. Combs is tops in the CBO in batting average, WAR, OBP (.476), and WPA (4.71). Looking at the NCA, he is also first in Slugging % (.626), OPS (1.088), runs (68), OPS+ (177), and WOBA (.461). He is considered to be the favorite to win the Nuka-Hitter Award, even though he is currently taking a short rest while injured (the Party Boys elected not to use a stimpack on his injury). Salem should have a chance to increase its lead on the rest of the BL this week with a homestand versus Sunshine Tidings and Easy Town. They have not been a productive hitting team overall, though they are scoring more than their production seems to indicate as the 6th best in runs scored (347). Their pitching is the big difference in their success, though they probably wish they had held on to Mike Cartrette for this playoff run. Still Tony Bertha (8-3, 3.41) was a big get from Sunshine Tidings via Egret. He finally seems to have put it all together this season, despite his slow start (1-1, 7.56) with the Hats. The Slog is now a game below .500, with its pitching to blame, namely Tyler Storts (1-12, 7.69) and Micah Ballard (4-6, 8.46). The Ghouls sport a good hitting team, though they are only 5th in runs scored (352). There are talented players throughout the team, but some definite gaps that makes it look like they will be short yet again in 2299, meaning they will miss their second straight playoffs after winning it all in 2296 and winning the BL in 2297.

The left-hander used his bread and butter, his changeup, to pitch the Swatters to a win, 4-0. With the win, Diamond City raised its record to 52-22. Fusion tossed 116 pitches over 8.1 innings to clinch the win for the Swatters. The left-hander allowed just 3 hits, while racking up 9 strikeouts in the game. Fusion said his team "played with determination." Sensation Oren Gep was 3 for 4 with a home run (16), a run, and two RBI. Nick Minnier and Tyler Ross also homered. Swatters 2B Danny Suarez had to leave the game in the 1st inning when Jake Doucette of Atom collided with Suarez and poked him in the eye. Mike Grognak finished the game at 2B. 18 July 2299 - Silver Shroud Prevail, 7-5, Over Finch Farm The Fort Hagen Silver Shroud picked up a win at Hubris Comics Park, knocking off the Finch Farm Four Leafs, 7-5. Curtis Thriceshot was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 22 of 25 save opportunities. In the bottom of the first, Andrew Nuka hit a 3-run home run. The 17th home run of the season for the Fort Hagen left fielder put the Silver Shroud on top, 3-0. "You know, at the end of the day, it's about who scores the most runs," said Fort Hagen manager Mark Andersen. Shroud reliever Bob Kearns had a tough stretch in relief, making a game well in hand close. Kearns allowed three earned runs on three hits with a walk and three strikeouts in 1.0 innings in relief to push his ERA up to 15.26. Matt Demented was able to help the Shroud escape the three-run 8th for Finch Farm before Thriceshot came on to pitch the 9th inning. The North Charles Association Institute League-leading Silver Shroud are 48-26. 18 July 2299 - Nordhagen Beach Wins, 7-6, in Extra Innings The Nordhagen Beach Party Boys beat the Lexington Synths, 7-6, in 10 innings at Slocum's Joe Seaside Stadium. The Party Boys got a fine performance from right fielder Jonathan Angelou, who went 2 for 3 with a home run, a double, and 2 walks, while scoring 3 times. The win belongs to Sia Abber in relief. His record improves to 8-0. Doug Dee El (2-4) took the loss for Lexington. Nordhagen Beach raised its record to 53-21 with the win. The Party Boys procured the win, in large part because of shortstop Ryan Bale. In the bottom of the tenth, he produced the game-winning run-scoring triple. "This place went bonkers at the end," Angelou said. Dustin Mart also contributed to the Boys' success, going 2 for 5 with a home run (13), two runs, and three RBI. Crooked Tostado led the Synths by going 3 for 5 with a team-tying three doubles and four RBI. Mike Pigeonfoot went 3 for 6 with a double, three runs, and an RBI. 18 July 2299 - Gunners Top Oberland, 2-1 Gunners fans were sent into a frenzy with a walk-off win. Oberland wasted a solid 8.1-inning effort from starting pitcher Sheng Kawolski, losing to Quincy, 2-1, at The Stone House. The winner was Quincy reliever Ryan Kazarian, now 4-1. The loser was Sheng Kawolski (11-5). In the bottom of the ninth, Quincy's Bryan Benton led off the inning with a solo home run to tie the game, 1-1. With one out, star Ben Pettinato doubled. Stuart Costantino was the walk-off hero, hitting a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home. Costantino attributed the win to "energy and focus on the part of everyone." The win gives Quincy a season record of 40-34, now three games up on University Point for the Minutemen League wildcard spot. The T-51s have now lost three straight, giving them just a one-game lead over Vault 81 for the Railroad League wildcard spot.

Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski 21 July 2299 - County Crossing Roughed Up By Party Boys' O The Nordhagen Beach Party Boys easily defeated the County Crossing Bloodbugs, 12-3, at Beantown Brewery Stadium, with first baseman Dustin Mart a main contributor to the win. He slugged 2 home runs, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 6 for Nordhagen Beach. Pop Murphy, not ready to give up his spot to the returning Ryan Combs, was 3 for 5 with a double, two home runs, three runs, and six RBI. Nordhagen Beach has an impressive 54-22 record, tops in the CBO. Mart had a key at-bat for Nordhagen Beach early in the game. With runners on 1st and 2nd, he hit a 3-run home run. It was his 16th home run of the season and gave Nordhagen Beach an early 3-0 lead. "We did a lot of things right," said Mart. Derek Gist picked up his 10th win to move to 10-4 on the season. In 6.0 innings, he allowed three earned runs on seven hits with three walks and four strikeouts. He allowed homers to Mush Levy (12) and Taygun Topaloglu (6) in his final inning pitched. 21 July 2299 - Deathclaws Take It on Chin, Lose, 11-0, to Goodneighbor Matt Pageturner was in a mood to talk following the Goodneighbor Hancocks contest against the University Point Deathclaws, expounding to BNN reporters on his pitching philosophy. He had good reason to be excitable, having tossed a complete-game shutout of the Deathclaws, 11-0. "There are three important elements in pitching success: location, location, and location," Pageturner said. "I was hitting my spots time and time again." The right-hander blanked University Point on a 5-hitter, allowing 3 walks and racking up 4 strikeouts. In 20 starts this season Pageturner has compiled a 14-2 record and a 3.39 ERA. With Goodneighbor, he is 7-0 with a 2.96 ERA. The Hancocks offense was also firing on all thrusters, with Bryan Assman going 3 for 5 with two home runs (22 + 23) with two runs and three RBI. Jason Juras also hit two home runs (19 + 20), going 2 for 4 with a walk, three runs, and five RBI. Burtie Cuttooth also added his 12th home run of the season. Assman and Juras represent the only teammates in the CBO currently with 20+ home runs. Finch Farm is the only other team on the brink with two players at 19 homers each. 21 July 2299 - Adamantium Take Down Synths, 5-4, in 10 The Abernathy Adamantium racked up a win at Tato Field, bumping off the Lexington Synths, 5-4, in 10 innings. Kyle Clevinger, who started for Abernathy, pitched effectively for his team. Abernathy has run its win streak to 4 in a row. The Adamantium procured the win, in large part because of pinch hitter Lucky Libow. In the bottom of the tenth, he produced the game-winning run-scoring single. Libow said afterward that he was "glad the fans were treated to a good ballgame." Joel Mutfruit, third baseman for the Abernathy Adamantium, ran his consecutive-game hitting streak to 20 games with 1 hit in his club's victory today. "Not the outcome we wanted," Lexington manager Sprole Races said. "There's never a good time to lose, and it's never fun to be on the wrong end of somebody else's accomplishment." Mutfruit flied out in the 1st, walked in the 4th, singled in the 6th, struck out in the 7th, and flied out in the 9th. So far this season Mutfruit has hit .286 with 7 home runs, 45 RBIs, and scored 43 times. 21 July 2299 - Chemists Curb Silver Shroud, 2-1 Sunshine Tidings starter Bill Sarnacki pitched well against the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud at Hubris Comics Park. The left-hander led his team to a win, 2-1. Vince Moon converted his 5th save in 6 tries. The Chemists sport a record of 31-45. The Chemists got an important contribution from center fielder Frank Corsica, who in the top of the third knocked a 2-1 fastball into left-center for a run-scoring double. It was his 30th double of the season and put the Chemists ahead, 2-0. "Winning never gets dull," said Corsica. Sarnacki (5-11) pitched one of his better games of the season, holding the Shroud to just one earned run on seven hits with two walks and four strikeouts in 8.0 innings. His best game came June 2 against Abernathy when he held the Adamantium to just one run while striking out 11 in 8.1 innings. 21 July 2299 - Swatters Lose Late, 7-3 The Oberland T-51s topped the Diamond City Swatters by the score of 7-3, with the largest share of the credit going to second baseman Jonathan Abern. Abern went 2 for 4 with a triple. He scored 2 times and drove in 3 for the T-51s. Matt Udder, the winner, improved to 10-7. He held Diamond City to 3 runs on 6 hits over 7 innings, while racking up 6 strikeouts. The victory gives Oberland a record of 40-36, 12 games back of the Swatters. Abern came through with some timely hitting for Oberland. With Diamond City trailing 3-2 in the top of the eighth, Abern hit a full-count curveball for a bases-clearing triple. His 13th triple of the season made it 5-3, Oberland. "When this team comes together and plays the way we can, we can compete with anyone," said Abern. "I think we're going to keep proving that."

Tim Fusion (11-5) was the loser in the battle of the aces.

July 2299 - News and Notes - July 24
Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski 24 July 2299 - The Slog Ghouls Ship Greene to Goodneighbor Fans in The Slog woke up this morning to learn that their team had traded 35-year-old LHP Tiny Greene to the Goodneighbor Hancocks. In return, the Ghouls will receive 26-year-old LHP Bruce Iddings, 26-year-old LF Matt Brahmin and 21-year-old minor league 1B Jason Bishop. Up to this point in the season, Greene has put up these stats: 33 relief appearances, 20 saves, 35.1 IP, 64 strikeouts and 1.27 ERA. His won-lost record is 2-1 with the opposition is hitting .171 against him. This season Iddings has registered 9 wins and 7 losses in 18 starts with a 3.95 ERA. The trade looks to be equally beneficial for both teams. The Slog gets a starting pitcher that can help its struggling pitching with Tyler Storts (1-13, 7.99) and Micah Ballard (4-6, 8.65) not looking like CBO-quality pitchers. At the same time, the Hancocks get a dominant closer to take the place of their struggling closer, Bus Paula (0-5, 4.28, 20 SV). Ghouls GM Plop Wyman has indicated that his team would be active in the coming days before the July 31 trade deadline. He stated that his team is always in "win now, never build for tomorrow" mode. 24 July 2299 - Synths See Spirit in Whiskey Nightcap In his second season in the BMU, Whiskey Nightcap has yet to thrive, but the Union Hope Lifegivers can see him stepping things up as the season progresses. "He's starting to knock the cover off the ball in batting practice," Lifegivers hitting coach Jamie Bidwell said. "We just need to see that convert to games." At 9-42, there has not been much hope in Union Hope. They are the only team eliminated from the playoffs with seven weeks yet to play. Still, the lineup is made up of a lot of raw talent, that if just a few progress, it could mean that the Lexington Synths are a long-term force in the Insitute League. Lifegivers manager Greg Tannenbaum believes Nightcap could be the one. "Yeah, we have talent around here that just needs to find their footing. Whiskey is one of them that just needs to step up when the lights are on and kill the ball like he does in practice. Hey, he hits better than almost everybody else on the team. But I think he could be special." Nightcap is second on the Lifegivers with a .260 batting average. Only three players are hitting over .200, which includes 2298 1st-round pick Mace Pageturner. Pageturner is the younger brother of Goodneighbor's SP Matt Pageturner. "We have a few weeks left in the season," Tannenbaum said. "I will let him swing away every pitch to see what he can produce. No holds barred. Find that power and average." 24 July 2299 - Mart Selected Top Player At the age of 27, Dustin Mart might have some potential he hasn't realized yet -- if his success at the plate last week is any indication. The Nordhagen Beach first baseman put up some exceptional numbers the past seven days with a .333 batting average. For his efforts Mart collected the North Charles Association Player of the Week Award. He racked up 7 hits in 21 at-bats, 4 home runs and 10 RBIs last week in 5 games. In his 2299 season totals, Mart has 16 home runs, .256 BA, .329 OBP, 54 RBIs and 49 runs scored. 24 July 2299 - Danse Chosen #1 Player His hard work and hustle paid off this week. The hard-working and hard-playing Paladin Danse was rewarded with the South Charles Association Player of the Week honors. The scrappy Egret Ninjas left fielder hit .550 while collecting 11 hits in 20 at-bats, 6 home runs and 13 RBIs. For the season Danse has produced 91 hits in 307 at-bats for a .296 average with 29 home runs and gotten on base at a .397 clip. 24 July 2299 - BNN Stats: Reliever Split Stats Leaders Today we look at the top 5 relievers leading the Commonwealth Baseball Organization in strikeouts per 9 innings at home. Andy Helium, EGR, 16.1 Thomas Seefar, ET, 15.9 Dan Beantown, SAL, 15.1 Aaron Still, OBE, 15.1 Sheffield Williams, ET, 14.5
