Walkers news: June 22 -- Green Bay 3, St. Louis 0

Record: 39-33, 1st, 2 GA Springfield
Jason Garrett pitched six scoreless innings to lead Green Bay to a 3-0 win over St. Louis at PNC Park.
Garrett (1-0) allowed six hits during his time on the mound. He struck out eight and walked two.
Three relievers, Keith DeRemer, Matt Broussard and Matt Rodriguez, closed out the game with a scoreless inning apiece.
Rodriguez posted his 18th save.
The Mallards scored single runs in the second, fourth and sixth innings off River Walkers starting pitcher Xavier Wigfall.
Catcher Mario Villa plated two of the runs with RBI singles in the second and sixth innings.
Ramon Puente drove in the Mallards' fourth-inning run as his single scored Blaze Jordan who had led off with a double.

Walkers news: June 23 -- St. Louis 5, Green Bay 1

Record: 40-33, 1st, 2 GA Springfield
Tied 1-1, Marcos Francis hit a two-run home run with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning to help lift St. Louis to a 5-1 win over Green Bay at PNC Park.
The win snapped a four-game losing streak for the River Walkers.
Mallards starting pitcher Alex Duarte retired the first two St. Louis hitters in the fifth.
But he walked pitcher Ming Xiang and Francis made him pay driving 2-0 pitch 398 feet over the wall in left field.
The Walkers got another home run in the sixth, this one from Nick Shaw off reliever Matt Broussard.
It was of the inside-the-park variety, the second of the season for Shaw who has hit 16 homers overall.
Zach Wenman made it 5-0 in the top of the ninth with a lead-off single off Keith DeRemer.
A single by Jose Segura moved Wenman to third.
Wenman scored when Abdul-Nasser bin Amr hit into a double play.
Xiang (9-2) continued to excel in his first season in the MBL, he allowed one run on seven hits over 7.1 innings. He struck out eight and didn't issue a walk.
Nick Ruffalo finished the eighth inning.
Scott Rissler set the Mallards down in order in the ninth.

Jesse McNaboe and four relievers combined on a five-hit shutout as St. Louis defeated Green Bay 2-0 at PNC Park.
The win was the second straight for the River Walkers to wrap up the three-game series.
McNaboe didn't receive the win, but he did shut out the Mallards on three hits over 5.2 innings. He struck out four and walked three.
Brett McVey (5-0), who finished the sixth inning and worked a scoreless seventh would earn the win after the St. Louis scored the game's only two runs in the top of the eighth.
Abdul-Nasser bin Amr led off that inning with a single off Green Bay reliever Elji Konno.
A one-out single from Bob Saavedra moved bin Amr to third.
Marcos Francis drove them both home with a double.
After the Walkers had the lead, Armando Cintron (0.1 IP) and Mike Fagan (0.2) combined to keep Green Bay off the board in the eighth.
Bobby Westerman handled the ninth for his 10th save.

Walkers news: June 26 -- St. Louis 12, Green Bay 10

Tied 10-10, St. Louis scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take the lead and the River Walkers held on for a 12-10 win over Green Bay at Busch Stadium (2006).
It was a wild game.
The Mallards got a solo homer from Sal Valdez off St. Louis starting pitcher Kevin Hrdlicka in the top of the first inning to go up 1-0.
Jackson Miller hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the second off Mallards starter Ernesto Tello to highlight a four-run inning for the Walkers, as they went ahead 4-1.
Bob Saavedra and Marcos Francis hit back-to-back homers off reliever Francisco Justo to lead off the bottom of the fourth for St. Louis, as the Walkers lead grew to 7-1.
Green Bay stormed back to within 7-6 with a pair of homers off Walkers starter Kevin Hrdlicka in the fifth.
Shinya Mori led off the inning with a homer.
Valdez later hit his second long ball of the game, this time a grand slam.
St. Louis responded with three runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Saavedra drove in two of the runs with a double off Dan Sutherland.
Mark Herman later connected for an RBI single off Sutherland.
Down 10-6, Green Bay tallied four times in the top of the sixth to tie the game.
The Mallards banged out five hits in the inning -- including RBI singles from Mario Villa and Devon Reyna off Mike Fagan and Scott Rissler, respectively.
Ray Wells also had an RBI double off Hrdlicka.
Reliever Jesse Gaither drove in a run with a fly ball off Fagan.
The scoring finally came to an end in the bottom of the sixth.
Manuel Coke and Miller led off with consecutive singles off Gaither.
Abdul-Nasser bin Amr scored Coke with a double.
Saavedra plated Miller with a fly ball to left.
It was the fifth poor start in six games for Hrdlicka, who allowed six runs o three hits. He struck out seven and walked three.
Fagan got two outs while being responsible for giving up two runs in the sixth.
Rissler (3-4) finished the sixth and worked a scoreless seventh.
Brett McVey set the Mallards down in order in the eighth.
Armando Cintron did the same in the ninth for his fifth save.

Josh McDonald took a shutout into the eighth inning and the St. Louis bullpen finished it off as the River Walkers downed Green Bay 3-0 at Busch Stadium (2006).
McDonald (2-5) didn't allow a run over 7.1 innings before exiting with one out in the top of the eighth.
Devon Reyna led off the top of the eighth for the Mallards with a single.
McDonald then walked Austin Clayton before getting Alberto Landaverde to ground out.
In his time on the mound, McDonald allowed five hits (four singles and a double) while striking out one and walking three.
With two runners on, Brett McVey replaced McDonald and retired Blaze Jordan (strike out) and Jim Moorman (fly out) to end the inning.
Bobby Westerman set Green Bay down in order in the ninth for his 11th save.
Rookie center fielder Mark Waterson drove in all three of the Walkers runs.
Waterson hit a two-run homer off Mallards starting pitcher John Haynes in the fourth inning.
In the sixth, Waterson tripled off Jesse Gaither to score Manuel Coke who had singled off Haynes.

Record: 43-34, 1st, 5.5 GA Springfield and Quad City
Down 4-2, Green Bay scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning to tie the game and two more in the seventh to take the lead as the Mallards defeated St. Louis 6-4 at Busch Stadium (2006).
The win allowed Green Bay to avoid a three-game sweep. St. Louis won four of the six games in the back-to-back.
A three-run bottom of the fifth had put the River Walkers in front 4-2.
Bob Saavedra and Marcos Francis both had RBI singles off Green Bay starting pitcher Jason Garrett.
The inning's third run scored when Mark Herman hit into a double play.
Alberto Landavedre got the Mallards moving with a one-out single off reliever Ron Cox in the top of the sixth.
Blaze Jordan followed with a single.
Scott Rissler then replaced Cox.
Landaverde and Jordan then pulled off a double steal, and when catcher Jackson Miller ended up in the outfield, Landaverde scored making it 3-2.
Pinch-hitter Sal Valdez then connected on a fly ball to deep center to score Jordan and tie the game.
An inning later, Green Bay grabbed the lead by scoring two more runs.
Brent Sanecal led off with a double off reliever Mike Fagan.
A Ray Well bunt moved Senecal to third.
After a strike out of Jim Moorman, Devon Reyna was given an intentional walk to bring Greg Sones into the game.
The lefty-against-lefty plan didn't work.
Right-handed hitting Hugo Vargas was inserted into the game and singled to put the Mallards in front.
Sones uncorked a wild pitch to put runners at second and third.
Jordan, who had hit a two-run homer off St. Louis starter Xavier Wigfall earlier in the game, collected his third RBI of the contest with a single.
Garrett went five innings, allowing four runs on seven hits. He struck out five and walked on.
Ernie Ruiz (1-0) pitched a scoreless sixth.
He would earn the win.
Matt Broussard shut out the River Walkers over two innings.
Matt Rodriguez did the same in the ninth for his 19th save.

Walkers news: June 30 -- Twin Cities 5, St. Louis 1

Record: 43-35, 1st, 4.5 GA Springfield
Twin Cities fell behind early, but beat up from St. Louis rookie starter Ming Xiang for a combined five runs in the bottom of the first and second innings and went on to defeat the River Walkers 5-1 at Target Field (2010).
Marcos Francis hit a solo homer off Snow Cats starting pitcher Garrett Karp in the top of the first.
That would be the only run St. Louis would get.
By the end of the of the first, Twin Cities led 2-1.
Shane King led off the bottom of the inning with a double of Xiang.
He scored on a Victor Machado single.
Mike Sartain followed with the second double of the inning to score Machado.
Sartain later scored on a Jeff Waddell fly ball.
Twin Cities got to Xiang for two more runs in the second.
King again got it going reaching on a one-out error by Francis at second base.
Machado picked up his second RBI of the game with a double.
After Xiang got Sartain to fly out for the second out, Daniel Sanabria reached on the second Francis error of the inning.
Jeff Wadell then earned his second RBI of the game, this time with a single.
Karp didn't last long enough to earn the win, going 4.1 innings during which, he allowed one run on six hits. He struck out four and walked one.
The victory went to Josh Greenburg (2-0), who finished the fifth and pitched a scoreless sixth.
Nick Wilson handled the seventh and got the first out of the eighth.
Danny Patino retired the only batter he faced to get the game to the ninth.
Brian Dowdy set the Walkers down in order to wrap up the win.

Walkers news: July 1 -- Team awards for June

Player of the Month: Nick Shaw - The 28-year-old first baseman batted .318 with six homers 23, RBIs and 13 runs scored in 24 games. He got on base at a .408 clip and slugged .593.
Starting Pitcher of the Month: Josh McDonald - The 30-year-old right-hander made five starts and went 1-0 with a 2.12 ERA. He pitched a total of 30.0 innings, during which he struck out 16 and had a 1.42 WHIP.
Relief Pitcher of the Month: Bobby Westerman - The 28-year-old right-hander got into 10 games during which he went 4-0 with three saves and a 0.61 ERA. He pitched a total of 14.2 innings, during which he struck out 21 and had a 0.55. Westerman was named NL Pitcher of the Month.

Twin Cities scored four runs while batting around in the first inning against St. Louis starting pitcher Jesse McNaboe and the Snow Cats went on to rout the River Walkers 8-1 at Target Field (2010).
After Shane King flew out to open the bottom of the first inning, the Cats banged out five consecutive hits -- including four doubles by Pete Johnson, Daniel Sanabria, Jeff Waddell and Victor Machado, Mike Saratain -- to scoe four runs.
Sanabria, Waddell and Machado all drove in runs with their doubles. A single by Mike Saratain scored Johnson's with the game's first run.
The Cats added another run in the second on a two-out triple by Sanabria. It scored Saratain, who had singled with one out.
Twin Cities also got an impressive start from Travis Mayr who allowed just two hits, both doubles by Nick Shaw, over 6.1 scoreless innings.
Ruben Lopez finished the seventh for Twin Cities and set St. Louis down in order in the eighth.
The Walkers did manage a meaningless run in the ninth.
The Cats tallied three runs in the bottom of the eighth against the Walkers' bullpen.
Bill Walter drove in two of the runs with a single off Brett McVey.
An RBI single from pinch-hitter Jonathan Knapp made it 8-0.

Record: 44-36, 1st, 4.5 GA Springfield and Kansas City
Mark Herman tripled with one out in the top of the 14th inning to score Nick Shaw in what proved to be the winning run in St. Louis 8-7 win over Twin Cities at Target Field (2010).
Shaw had gotten on base with a one-out single off Snow Cats relief pitcher Ruben Lopez.
Herman followed with liner into the gap in right center for his third hit of the game and second triple of the season.
Twice the River Walkers allowed late leads to get away to keep the game going.
Leading 5-4 entering the bottom of the ninth, Jonathan Knapp tied it when he led off with a homer of closer Bobby Westerman.
St. Louis scored a pair of runs in the top of the 12th to go up 7-5.
Shaw drove in the first run with a single off Twin Cities relief pitcher Nick Wilson.
Jackson Miller later drew a bases-loaded walk from Wilson to score the second run.
Knapp came through with the big hit again in the bottom of the 12th, connecting on a bases-loaded single off Ron Cox to plate a pair.
Twin Cities jumped out to a 3-0 lead after four innings against St. Louis rookie starting pitcher Billy Hermann.
The Walkers rallied with three in the sixth and two in the top of the seven to grab a 5-3 lead.
Mike Sartain hit a solo homer off Brett McVey in the eighth to make it 5-4.
Hermann, who replaced the struggling Kevin Hrdlicka in the St. Lous rotation, lasted five innings, allowing three runs on five hits. He struck out two and walked three.
The Walkers followed him with seven relief pitchers.
Armando Cintron (0.1 IP) and Mike Fagan (0.2) combined on a scoreless sixth.
After that it was McVey (2.0), Westerman (2.0), Nick Ruffalo (1.2), Cox (1.2) and Greg Sones (0.2),
The win went to Cox (2-0).
Sones earned his third save.

Record: 45-36, 1st, 5.5 GA Springfield and Kansas City
St. Louis scored two runs in the top of the first inning and added two more in the third to pave the way for a 5-2 win over Springfield at Oracle Park.
The River Walkers struck quickly against Railers starting pitcher Tony Aceves.
Bob Saaverdra drew a walk to lead-off the game.
He scored when Marcos Francis followed with a double.
Mark Herman later scored Francis with a two-out single.
In the third, Herman collected both the RBIs with a two-run homer off Aceves.
The River Walkers added their final run in the sixth with Aceves still on the mound.
Herman was hit by a pitch to open the inning.
A Jackson Miller single moved Herman to third.
Herman scored when Abdul-Nasser bin Amr hit into a fielder's choice.
St. Louis got a strong starter from Josh McDonald (3-5).
He allowed two runs on seven hits in 7.1 innings. He struck out five and walked one.
The Railers' runs came on homers from Alex Otero in the fourth inning and Billy Salas in the fifth.
McDonald exited with one out and a runner on in the eighth.
Greg Sones got the Walkers out of the inning with the score still 5-2.
Closer Bobby Westerman walked two batters in the ninth, but got a pair of fly outs to end it.
Westerman's save was his 12th.
