Don Secrist 1969

Don Secrist 1970 White Sox

I played 1 game on the Varsity baseball team as a freshman in 1961 and Don was the pitcher I faced. He pitched for Williamsfield, IL. and I played Monmouth, IL.
I walked 4 times and never swung the bat once. Also my knees were knocking. Fastest pitcher I ever faced. And was he ever wild. But he won the game hitting a home run.

Ivy Andrews 1931 - 1937 Indians uniform

Upgrade over Pitchers' Pack image, IMO, as Ivy is facing the camera, rather than turned away as in that one. (Road uniform rather than home, though.)

Al Lakeman UIN Phillies ?

Hi!

I found this picture in an auctioned lot of Phillies mentioning Al Lakeman was one of the players. Eliminating some photos, I'm down to this image.
According to Baseball reference Lakeman was a right-handed batter and wore numbers 25-26 and 36 with the Phillies.

When I compare the nose and cheeks with other "confirmed" pictures of Lakeman, that seems to be the pictured player.

Any other comments of opinions?

Thanks!

The player in that photo appears to be wearing the familiar "white P on red" cap that the Phillies began using in 1950. When Lakeman was on the team in 1947-'48 his cap would have looked like this:

The batting stance gives him away: it's Stan Lopata.

Al Lakeman Phillies Take 2 ?

Thanks to Ceej and tnfoto for their comments. Tnfoto I'm impressed that you could identify this player so fast!

The other picture that could be Lakeman is this one. Seems to be wearing a compatible cap.

re: the Shawkey uni colors. I found this site which had auctioned this
game worn Eddie Plank 1914 cap. I had always assumed the A's
caps of this era were shades of blue. Perhaps this was a road uniform.

It is, thanks for catching it. I've removed the offending photo to avoid any future confusion.

3 Phillies Uniforms & Caps

When the Phillies were looking to diversify their uniforms (which had been of the same design since 1992) and add an alternate design last decade they hit upon the idea of going back to their primarily blue cap, piping, lettering and numerals of their Post World War Two Era of 1946-1949. (The 1946 uniform design is slightly different from the 1947-49 unis.) They introduced an alternate uniform in 2008 for Home Day games that is nearly an exact copy of the one from the late '40s as pictured in section 17328 (cap) and 17330 (uniform as worn by Al Lakeman).
The Phillies decision to go to the red-based uni that was familiar through the 1950s and 1960s was actually kind of revolutionary for its time. In the late 1940s all uni lettering and details and caps were blue or black-based from bright royal blue to navy blue to black. The Phillies introduced their red-based unis on Opening Day 1950 into this otherwise drab scene (The Senators,Indians, Reds, Cubs and Cardinals had a few red elements in their uniforms, but the designs were still primarily blue.). They had even worn the previous year's design uniforms through Spring Training in '50 in part to disguise and keep secret the new unis and then they unveiled the new red ones on Opening Day. This splash of color caught more than a few fans and sportswriters offguard, but Phillies fans quickly grew to love the new Phillies colors. An example of this uniform is displayed in section 17329 in the uniforms worn by Stan Lopata (Road Uni: Top & Home Uni: Bottom.)

Larger, clearer version of Facepack image, taken from his 1918 Zeenut card, on which his name is misspelled "Conwright."
