12 August 2299 - Adamantium's Parker Attacked

For the second time in his career, Abernathy Adamantium center fielder Flatface Parker was attacked by a mutant. This time, it was a super mutant hound that nearly did him in.

The beast escaped its cage just outside of Concord, where Parker and teammates were gathered following their win at Concord on Friday night.

Parker is apparently seriously injured and will miss some time, pending the availability of stimpacks at Kendall Hospital, where he is being transported. The Abernathy team also could donate their stimpacks to his recovery.

12 August 2299 - Nightcap Delivers Walk-Off Win for Synths

Super Duper Mart Stadium was the site of quite a ballgame.

Good production from shortstop Swift Hendrix helped the Lexington Synths topple the Sunshine Tidings Chemists, 5-4. Hendrix went 3-3 with 2 home runs and a walk for the Synths. With the win, Lexington pushed its record to 50-42.

Whiskey Nightcap was the walk-off hero for Lexington. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Synths left fielder hit a dramatic solo home run to send the teams home.

"Honestly, I'm not frustrated," said Sunshine Tidings manager Cozy Burmaster. "The effort was great."

12 August 2299 - Rathmann, Waterpipe Blast Knuckle Punchers, 12-2

Atomatoys Stadium at Roxbury was the site for South Charles Association action featuring the Roxbury Knuckle Punchers and FHE Yao Guai.

FHE right fielder Joe Rathmann contributed to his team's 12-2 win over the Roxbury Knuckle Punchers. Rathmann, who is tied for 10th in the SCA with a .406 on-base percentage, went 2 for 4 with 4 runs scored to lead the offensive attack for the Yao Guai. FHE has run its win streak to 4 in a row.

The Yao Guai got a big hit from first baseman Nick Waterpipe. In the top of the ninth, Waterpipe pounded a bases-clearing double to left-center. His 27th double of the season put the Yao Guai ahead, 12-2. Waterpipe was 3 for 5 with two doubles, a walk, a run, and five RBI.

"It feels good to get this one," Rathmann told the FHE Citizen.

12 August 2299 - Ghouls Beat Nordhagen Beach, 4-3

The Slog Ghouls starter Dan Dozier pitched a strong game against the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys at Slocum's Joe Seaside Stadium, leading the Ghouls to victory, 4-3. Matt Suds earned his 4th save in 6 chances. The Slog raised its record to 48-44 with the win.

The Slog used the clutch hitting of Shawn Cherry to capture the win. The catcher drilled a bases-clearing double in the top of the eighth inning to give the Ghouls the lead, 4-2. For the game, Cherry had 1 single and 1 double in 4 at-bats.

"If you want to be considered a good team, these are the kind of games you have to win," said The Slog manager Dick Tricky.

12 August 2299 - 9 Straight Wins for Silver Shroud

The Fort Hagen Silver Shroud stopped the Starlight Lady Killers, 9-4, at Valentine Detective Agency Field. The Silver Shroud got a big game from David Driftwood, who was 2 for 5 with 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. Brent Hooker got credit for the win, improving to 12-4. He allowed 2 runs on 7 hits in 7.1 innings. Fort Hagen is now riding a 9-game win streak.

Driftwood had a key at-bat for Fort Hagen early in the game. With a runner on 1st, he hit a 2-run home run. It was his 18th home run of the season and gave Fort Hagen an early 2-0 lead.

"We'll kick back tonight, then get set for the next one," Driftwood said.

12 August 2299 - Phrasemaker Now 1-2 After Subduing Ninjas

Baseball fans saw a good contest between the Diamond City Swatters and Egret Ninjas.

Pitcher Blaine Phrasemaker was sensational for the Diamond City Swatters in his team's 3-1 triumph over the Egret Ninjas. Phrasemaker picked up the win, and it was well-earned. Diamond City has an impressive 64-28 record.

The Ninjas had trouble solving Phrasemaker, who surrendered 1 run on 4 hits over 7.1 innings.

"We'll keep playing hard and let the chips fall where they may," said Diamond City manager Bucky Bachelor.

With the win and an Oberland loss, the Swatters become the first team in 2299 to clinch a playoff spot, securing at worst the wildcard spot in the Railroad League.

12 August 2299 - Late Magic Gets Goodneighbor 4-2 Win

Goodneighbor rode a decent outing from starter Matt Pageturner to victory over the Atom Cats. The final score was 4-2. Pageturner went 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 2, and struck out 5. His record improves to 10-1. The win puts Goodneighbor at 61-31 this season.

Jumper Hayes hit a 2-run home run off Jesse Emacipated in the bottom of the eighth, which put the Hancocks ahead, 4-2. In addition to the homer, Hayes had 2 doubles, while going 3 for 4.

"One win at a time, one game at a time. We try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," Hayes told the Goodneighbor Bulletin.

13 August 2299 - Roxbury Knuckle Punchers Ship Tarberry to Sunshine Tidings

The Knuckle Punchers and the Chemists finalized a deal this afternoon. Roxbury has traded for 31-year-old minor league SS Jason Hurt and in return Sunshine Tidings will receive 33-year-old minor league 3B Nick Tarberry.

13 August 2299 - Slingshot Helps Gunners Run Win Streak to 8

The performance of Curtis Slingshot proved critical in helping Quincy beat Warwick, 8-5. The Gunners first baseman went 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 4. Quincy reliever Colt Finley picked up the win, upping his record to 2-0. Dave Kovalenko was saddled with the loss. The Gunners, at 57-36, have now won 8 straight.

The game turned with two out in the bottom of the fourth when Slingshot, who is on pace for 73 RBI this season, hit a 2-run home run. It propelled the Gunners into the lead, 6-4.

Slingshot said afterward that his team has grown over the course of the season, adding: "It feels good when a plan comes together."

13 August 2299 - Red Rockets Rally For 5-3 Win

The University Point Deathclaws got a sterling performance from pitcher Gary Stallworth, but the Jamaica Plain Red Rockets still prevailed, 5-3. Stallworth threw 7 innings of shutout ball. Jamaica Plain is 4th in the South Charles Association Minutemen League with a record of 45-48.

Jamaica Plain used the timely hitting of Aaron Erickson to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Red Rockets on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"We'll kick back tonight, then get set for the next one," Erickson said.

13 August 2299 - Streaking Dwellers Win Another One, 3-1

The Oberland T-51s went down to defeat to Curt Redcoats and his Vault 81 teammates. The final score was 3-1 in favor of the Dwellers. In 8 innings, Redcoats surrendered 4 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 2. He allowed 1 run. This win makes it 6 in a row for Vault 81, including a sweep of Oberland, which now trails by five games in the wildcard race.

It could have been a different outcome for Vault 81, had it not been for Jason Robinson, the 22-year old first baseman . Robinson contributed a solo home run in the top of the fourth inning to put Vault 81 up, 2-0.

"Can't say enough about our pitching," said Robinson.

13 August 2299 - Ghouls Win at Nordhagen Beach, 3-2, Sweep Series

Slocum's Joe Seaside Stadium was the site of a competitive game between the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys and The Slog Ghouls.

The Slog starter Gwinnett Southie pitched well against the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys at Slocum's Joe Seaside Stadium. The right-hander led his team to a win, 3-2. Southie picked up the win for The Slog, going 8 innings. He gave up 1 run on 6 hits. He now sports a record of 2-1. Matt Suds got the save, his 5th in 7 chances.

The Slog took a 3-1 lead on Millioncap Go's 10th triple of the season. The run-scoring triple, which Go hit in the top of the seventh, left Nordhagen Beach pitcher Tommy Beach shaking his head.

"Nice to tuck this win away," said Go.

The win elevated the Ghouls to 49-44, now tied with Salem for second place in the Brotherhood League. Both trail the Party Boys by 13 games, with the Boys' magic number down to 3.

13 August 2299 - Lady Killers Prevail, 3-1, Over Fort Hagen

Dedicated fans weathered the storm to watch their beloved Lady Killers beat the Silver Shroud in a radstorm-shortened game.

Getting a good performance from center fielder Glenn Higinbotham, the Starlight Lady Killers defeated the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud, 3-1, in 6 innings. Higinbotham went 2 for 2 with a home run and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 2 runs for the Lady Killers. Picking up the win was City Moore. He went 5.1 innings, allowing 1 run on 6 hits. The right--hander struck out 5 and walked 1.

David Seaweed dealt the Silver Shroud a blow in the bottom of the fifth. Batting with runners on 1st and 3rd and Starlight leading 2-1, Seaweed, who is on pace for 77 RBI this season, hit a 2-2 changeup for a run-scoring single.

"Win or lose, we pick each other up in this clubhouse," Higinbotham told the Starlight News.

Starlight now has a record of 51-42 with the win after breaking a six-game losing streak. The loss snapped a 9-game winning streak for the Shroud.

Jim Tiller's sizzling hitting streak was snapped at 24 games today as the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud dropped their contest with the Starlight Lady Killers 3-1 at Valentine Detective Agency Field. Tiller failed to get a hit, finishing 0-for-3.

After the game Tiller spoke with BNN and called his effort "quite a streak."

"I just ran into some good pitching today," he said.

So far this season Tiller has put up a .368 batting average with 143 hits, 20 home runs and 73 RBIs.

13 August 2299 - Cats Stun Hancocks, 9-1

Atom picked up a win at Third Rail Stadium at S. Boston HS, bumping off the Goodneighbor Hancocks, 9-1. Pitcher Sam Teflon was a major reason the Cats emerged victorious. The Cats go to 31-62 with the win.

The outcome might have been different for Atom, had it not been for Jeremy Schoolboy, the slugging left fielder . Schoolboy stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put Atom up, 2-1. For the game, he was 3 for 5, including 1 double and 2 singles.

Schoolboy told a Atom Citizen reporter that he was "gratified" with the win.

13 August 2299 - Swatters Mow Down Ninjas, 9-3

Jim Synthseeker helped his team muscle past the Egret Ninjas, 9-3. In the game, the Diamond City second baseman was 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. Diamond City starter X10-44 Mannson was credited with the win after throwing 115 pitches over 7.2 innings. His record now stands at 11-4. Noah Williams earned his 1st save in 2 chances.

Witcher Craft, the 22-year old center fielder , had a direct impact on the outcome. Craft contributed a 2-run single in the top of the second inning to put Diamond City up, 3-0.

"I like how we're playing right now," said Synthseeker.

Diamond City improves to 65-28 with the win. They lead their division by 14½ games.

The Swatters were officially notified that catcher Nick Minnier had been suspended for an altercation that occurred in the game. After arguing a called third strike by the plate umpire, an enraged Minnier threw his batting helmet toward home after he reached the dugout.

That action got him ejected and a 3-game suspension.

"I threw the helmet and I shouldn't have," Minnier said. "But I don't deserve the suspension. It was a bad call that started this whole mess."

Minnier is presently hitting at a .239 pace with 2 home runs and 8 RBIs. He has played in 31 games and scored 12 times.

2299 - Week 18 - The Week in Review

Analysis

Diamond City became the first team to clinch a playoff spot, and they return to the top spot in the Power Rankings following a 5-0 week to boost them to 65-28 on the season and a three-game lead in the CBO for the top record.

Fort Hagen dropped to #2 after they went 4-1, dropping Game Three versus Starlight (#9) to break a nine-game winning streak. Currently the hottest team in the CBO with an eight-game winning streak, the Quincy Gunner rose to #3 with sweeps over the terrible Roxbury Knuckle Punchers (#21) and Warwick Mirelurks (#23). With the Gunners' recent success, there is almost a guarantee that we know three of the four playoff teams in the SCA with no other team likely to rise in the Minutemen League.

Rounding out the Top 5 are the other two league leaders, Nordhagen Beach, which were surprisingly swept at home by The Slog (#8) for a 2-3 week, and Goodneighbor, which endured a 1-4 week, including being swept by another hot team, Vault 81 (#6) and losing a home series to Atom (#22).

County Crossing and the Mirelurks now make up the Bottom Two of the Power Rankings. Later, we are going to analyze a few Risers and Fallers of the week, including the Dwellers and Ghouls, as well as the Oberland T-51s (#16) and Lexington Synths (#10).

Weekly Team Power Rankings

Here are the current team power rankings for Commonwealth Baseball Organization:

Teams (Total Points, Tendency):
1) Diamond City Swatters (136.8, +1)
2) Fort Hagen Silver Shroud (127.0, -1)
3) Quincy Gunners (126.3, +2)
4) Nordhagen Beach Party Boys (115.0, o)
5) Goodneighbor Hancocks (113.1, -2)
6) Vault 81 Dwellers (108.7, +3)
7) Abernathy Adamantium (107.7, +7)
8) The Slog Ghouls (101.8, o)
9) Starlight Lady Killers (97.7, -2)
10) Lexington Synths (93.8, -4)
11) Salem Witch Hats (92.8, o)
12) University Point Deathclaws (90.0, +4)
13) Egret Ninjas (84.1, -3)
14) Jamaica Plain Red Rockets (84.1, -1)
15) Sunshine Tidings Chemists (82.4, o)
16) Oberland T-51s (82.0, -5)
17) FHE Yao Guai (80.4, +2)
18) Finch Farm Four Leafs (77.5, -1)
19) Easy Town Assaultrons (72.8, +4)
20) Concord Radstags (63.5, -1)
21) Roxbury Knuckle Punchers (62.8, o)
22) Atom Cats (61.0, +2)
23) Warwick Mirelurks (56.7, -5)
24) County Crossing Bloodbugs (50.9, -2)

Risers

Vault 81 Dwellers (51-42, 14 GB, +3)

The Railroad League looked to be certain just a month ago when Diamond City and Oberland were cruising along. Now, in the middle of August, with just three weeks to play, the Dwellers look to be in the best shape thanks to their road sweep at Oberland over the weekend. That puts them five games up on the T-51s with 15 left to play. The schedule may also be in Vault 81's favor, with their remaining schedule including weekend series versus Egret (#13), at Roxbury (#21), and vs FHE (#17). Avoiding both the Swatters and T-51s certainly helps. They also play four of their six interleague games versus Warwick (#23) with a midweek homestand against the Hancocks this week. The T-51s avoid the top two, too, so their schedule is not exactly more difficult, but there is a midweek road trip to Goodneighbor next week. All the Dweller must do is stay at least one game up, and they are in.

The big improvement has been the development of rookies in CF Aesed Hayjen (.309/13/58) and 2B Harry Byrd (.246/3/9). Byrd's marked improvement allowed the Dwellers to make a surprising move in sending Bubb Islander to the Lexington Synths to reload their prospects. The acquisition of 1B Jason Robinson from Concord has paid off. With the Dwellers, he has a .286/.352/.652 line with 11 home runs and 21 RBI. On the season, he is batting .258 with 24 home runs and 72 RBI. His 24 homers ties him for 7th in the CBO. Of course, former MVP Deer Quickwalker (.326/17/71), as well as SS Knud Bather (.262/17/64) and 3B Mark Dombrowski (.261/19/65), provides pop in an offense that has steadily improved as the season has gone on. Manager Jason Personhood has thrown a lot of credit to hitting coach Murder Downey, who he credits with developing the lineup over the course of the season into a formidable lineup.

The Slog Ghouls (49-44, 13 GB, 0)

Despite not moving in the Power Rankings this week, the Ghouls got an important road sweep to put them back in position to make the 2299 playoffs, now tied with the Witch Hats for second place. In a week where they had to face the two top teams in the North Charles Association, they overcame a sweep at Fort Hagen to top their league rivals in Nordhagen Beach. They are now hoping to get revenge versus the Silver Shroud when they host them this week.

The biggest problem all season has been starting pitching. With a 5.48 Starters ERA (11th in NCA), the Ghouls must find their pitching soon to have a chance to outlast the Witch Hats, which have an advantage with Tony Bertha (10-6, 3.58) and Terrence Artman (14-5, 3.04) taking the mound regularly. The Slog has made some changes, with Dan Dozier (9-8, 3.68) as ace where he does not always match up with the best of the best, but Bruce Iddings (11-8. 3.86), Gwinnett Southie (9-9. 4.69), and Bobby Delaune (12-8, 5.55) can perhaps steal enough wins to keep them rising.

Fallers

Oberland T-51s (46-47, 19 GB, -5)

The T-51s have been one of the better teams in the CBO thanks to a dominant pitching staff. That has not been the case in 2299, as the T-51s are middling in runs allowed (6th at 474), Starters ERA (7th at 4.93), and Bullpen ERA (6th at 4.30). Sheng Kawolski (13-7, 3.33) is pitching well but not getting consistent run support, including a 3-1 decision on Saturday against the Dwellers. Gerald Jerry (5-8, 4.49), Matt Udder (11-8, 5.13), and Lennie Landslide (5-8, 6.62) are not helping.

Lexington Synths (50-43, 12 GB, -4)

With the acquisition of Bubb Islander from the Dwellers, the Synths thought they would start to see the production they need to start producing more runs. At #12 in the NCA in runs scored (373), the Synths have been home run dependent to score their runs. They are #2 in homers (103) with three players all currently over 20: Crooked Tostado (21), Mike Pigeonfoot (21), and Justin Daros (20). For the team to improve, Islander and others will need to hit at a much better pace. Outside of Islander, 1B Jeffrey Curatolo has the top batting average with a .278 mark, by far the lowest for a team leader in the NCA, and better by .001 over Warwick's leader in Radio Short.

Trashcan Carla-Jason Saum Detail Offseason Plans

There is one thing obvious in the BMU: The Lexington Synths' BMU team, the Union Hope Lifegivers, are not competitive. One of the biggest reasons is the lack of talent. That became even more evident when the Synths traded away three highly-talented players two weeks ago to obtain the services of 2B Bubb Islander from Vault 81.

Commissioner Nate Howard has already expressed that moves must be made with a purpose for winning, and he is not happy with the lack of competition that the Lifegivers offer in the Cambridge League. According to a statement from the CBO headquarters, Howard described Lexington GM Jason Saum's front office style as "unacceptable."

Union Hope has won only two games since the All-Star Break, gaining one 11-inning victory and one victory last week at College Square to break a 14-game losing streak. Before their last victory on July 12, the Lifegivers were on an eight-game winning streak. They have also had nine-game and 10-game losing streaks.

Owner Trashcan Carla and Saum are now detailing a plan to redistribute talent and work to make the 2300 Union Hope team one that can win better than their .159 winning percentage.

"Small goals," Saum was quoted as saying. "We have four draft picks in the first two rounds, so we are going to go with sure picks over gambles. We'll see how the Synths finish up, too. If we make the playoffs, we'll evaluate our core and then see about making some moves for regulars to prospects to build up Union Hope. We have some goals."

According to Saum, Trashcan Carla has agreed to step back more and let the scouts and GM do their jobs. Carla has a reputation of managing the team much like she manages the Super Duper Mart franchises, valuing profit through quantity rather than quality. The Synths have being built to win at the CBO level with no regard for the BMU level.

The problem there is that lack of long-term growth may lead the Synths to be non-competitive in the CBO, which would go against the agreements Howard made when selecting team owners. Howard built the league on a central core that can take control of non-competitive teams. While there are teams that have not had success--for example the Brotherhood League's County Crossing Bloodbugs, which finished in 6th place all three years--Howard still considered them to be competitive in the sense of developing players and winning enough games. Howard does not consider a winning percentage below .300 to be acceptable for competition.

The actions the Synths would have to take are laid out in their plans, but Howard may be involved in those offseason moves, too. That could indicate the Lexington team is not as likely to make a potential playoff run in 2300 until it can find enough youngsters to develop at the CBO level.

Even with some talent, there is just not enough, and players are tired of the losing. Some who have expressed that frustration include 2298 2nd-round and 3rd-round picks CL Van Funky (2-8, 9,41, 5 SV) and SP Jaa Thirtysix. According to Thirtsix, "Our best hitter is batting [.212]. Our defense averages two errors a game. Our pitching gives up 8 a game. We cannot win a game unless the other team has a bad day." Thirtysix is 0-10 with a team-worst 10.58 ERA.

Salem Losing Patience with Prynne?

The Salem Witch Hats seem to be growing increasingly impatient with the progress of prospect Heston Prynne, a part-time outfielder with the Witch Hats' club after being called up earlier in the season. When he was called up, the expectation was that he would claim an OF spot to help the team in their playoff goals.

Instead, in 23 games as a pinch hitter, Prynne (.294/0/3) is still stuck behind the trio of Tyler Spronk (.292/18/68), Chris Treestump (.272/20/63), and Mike Castillo (.284/7/36). Prynne was most likely to unseat Castillo, which would have opened up Castillo to be traded to improve the infield. Now that the Witch Hats are struggling to fend off the The Slog Ghouls, that infield position seems to be a crucial lacking part of their playoff pursuits.

Hall goes 4-for-5 in Bloodbugs Win

Behind a solid performance from right fielder Long Hall, the County Crossing Bloodbugs defeated the Starlight Lady Killers, 10-8. Hall was 4 for 5 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 4 for the Bloodbugs. County Crossing pitcher Chopsticks McWilliams got the win. He's now 7-1. John Walden was tagged with the loss. William Whitehurst earned his 13th save in 15 chances.

Had Mushy Levy not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Levy hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 9-8, in favor of the Bloodbugs.

"We try to keep the mood light around here," said Hall. "Winning helps."

The win has County Crossing at 33-61.

Ramos Shines in 6-4 Sunshine Tidings Win

Getting offensive support from Brightsun Ramos, the Sunshine Tidings Chemists topped the Easy Town Assaultrons, 6-4. Ramos was 4 for 4 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles. He scored 2 times and drove in 2 for the Chemists. The winning pitcher was Jamie Collins. His record is now 3-9. The left-hander went 8 innings, allowing 4 runs on 5 hits for the Chemists. Handsome Frank got the save, his 13th in 17 chances.

The Chemists had to work out of trouble in the top of the ninth. The score was 6-4, Sunshine Tidings, with one out. Easy Town, with a runner on 2nd, was mounting a threat. Joe Ransom dug in at the plate, but on a 3-1 slider, he flied out.

Sunshine Tidings is now 42-52.

Church Now 5-3 After Subduing Synths

The Salem Witch Hats beat the Lexington Synths, 6-1. Salem pitcher and Haverhill, Massachusetts, native Ugio Church led the way. With the win, Salem pushed its record to 50-44.

Church's performance can only be described as masterful. He notched 9 strikeouts in 9 innings while allowing 7 hits. Church, the 12th overall pick in the 2297 draft, goes to 5-3 on the year with 46 strikeouts.

"We can always improve and get better, but we're feeling confident after that win," said Church.

Adamantium Lose By a Run at Nordhagen Beach, 3-2

Nordhagen Beach starter Chet Arthur had a strong outing against the Abernathy Adamantium at Slocum's Joe Seaside Stadium. The right-hander was a big part of his team's 3-2 win. In 8 innings, Arthur surrendered 4 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 0. He allowed 1 run. The Party Boys have an impressive 63-31 record.

With one out in the bottom of the fourth, Dustin Mart barreled up a fastball from Bad Company Grognak. The result was a 2-run home run, putting the Party Boys in front, 3-0.

"Every loss stings," said Abernathy manager Chase Stingwing. "This one is no exception."

Ghouls Subdue Silver Shroud, 10-7

The The Slog Ghouls bested the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud by a score of 10-7, with second baseman C.T. Woodard getting the main credit. On the day, Woodard was 2 for 5 with a home run, while scoring 3 times and driving in 2 for the Ghouls. Bobby DeLaune picked up the win with 5.2 innings of work. He allowed 5 runs on 7 hits, while walking 4 and striking out 6. On the season, he is now 13-8. The triumph puts The Slog at 50-44 for the season.

In the top of the ninth, David Driftwood stood in the box, looking for a pitch to hammer. The Silver Shroud were trailing 10-7, but had the bases loaded. That's when Matt Suds made a terrific pitch and Driftwood struck out. Gone was the dream of a Fort Hagen comeback.

Hancocks Drop Dwellers, 6-4

Starting pitcher Quincy Eloquent pitched well enough to help the Goodneighbor Hancocks beat the Vault 81 Dwellers, 6-4. The Hancocks lead the South Charles Association Minutemen League by 4½ games.

In the top of the second, John Rose hit a solo home run. The 13th home run of the season for the Goodneighbor center fielder put the Hancocks on top, 1-0.

"We've got guys willing to do what it takes to win," Eloquent told the Goodneighbor Bulletin.

Gunners Sneak Past Swatters, 2-1

The Quincy Gunners grabbed a win, 2-1, over the Diamond City Swatters at The Stone House. Quincy center fielder Steve Gunkill was 4 for 5 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. The winning continues for Quincy, with the latest making it 9 straight.

The game was still up for grabs in the bottom of the ninth. With two out, Gunkill hit a slider from Mike Pond for a solo home run. The Gunners, in dramatic fashion, had a walk-off win.

"We were in it," said Diamond City manager Bucky Bachelor. "We just didn't score enough runs."

16 August 2299 - Caudill Takes Top NWL Manager Honors

Nick Caudill has molded the Quartz Star Force into a top-flight Nuka World League team. The 2299 Skipper of the Year came into spring training with a commitment to getting the most out of his Star Force.

"I told them I had no preconceived notions about them, that all of them were blank slates as far as I was concerned. I told them to learn my system and we would win. I told them all the spots on the roster were open, that the best players would play -- young or old, rookie or vet -- and that I expected them to hustle, to work hard, and play as a team. They bought into it and made me look good."

And Nick Caudill certainly got the most out of his ballclub. The Star Force wrapped up the season in first place in the with a 49-35 record.

Warwick Trades Lurkcakes for Cherry's Calkins

The Warwick Mirelurks and Cherry Ghoulrillas have put the finishing touches on a deal that was weeks in the making. Warwick will part with 28-year-old 1B Random Lurkcakes, while the Ghoulrillas have dealt 23-year-old 1B Macaw Lee Calkins.

"This one took a while to figure out," said Warwick general manager Jason Liberti. "We must have gone back to the drawing board five or six times over the past few weeks. I'm glad we finally got the deal done. I think it is a good one for both clubs."

Currently Lurkcakes is hitting .227 and has collected no home runs, 2 RBIs and scored 1 times, while playing in 25 games.

Cuttooth Helps Goodneighbor Cruise to 12-3 Win

The Goodneighbor Hancocks topped the Vault 81 Dwellers, 12-3, in South Charles Association action at CURIE Inc. Field. The game was highlighted by the performance of Goodneighbor shortstop Burtie Cuttooth. Goodneighbor pitcher John Oldsink got the win. He's now 12-8. Curt Redcoats was tagged with the loss. Goodneighbor leads the South Charles Association Minutemen League by 4― games.

With Goodneighbor leading 9-3 in the top of the eighth, Cuttooth came up to bat against Vault 81 pitcher Tennessee Tailor. Cuttooth hit a fastball to left for a 3-run home run. His 15th home run of the season put the Hancocks on top, 12-3.

"The boys were really swinging the bats today," winning manager Jeremy Whiteplate said.

Synths, Marble Buzz Witch Hats, 2-0

Tristan Marble of the Lexington Synths put on a dazzling performance at Super Duper Mart Stadium today. He shut out the Salem Witch Hats 2-0 on a well-pitched 4-hitter, ringing up 7 strikeouts and issuing no walks.

"I felt strong out there all day," Marble said later.

Season-to-date Marble has rung up 9 wins and 10 losses in 25 appearances. He has an ERA of 3.69 and has fanned 129 batters in 170.2 innings.

Mirelurks Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Yao Guai, 15-12

Warwick and FHE engaged in a slugfest.

FHE got a terrific game from third baseman Pistol Schmidt. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Warwick, 15-12. Schmidt hit 2 home runs, while scoring 3 times and driving in 3. Tom Rose got the save, his 6th in 7 chances.

Warwick took a 15-12 lead on Bobby Thesea's 2nd home run of the season. The grand slam home run came off FHE pitcher Pray Tell in the bottom of the eighth.

"The name of the game is scoring runs," Thesea said. "We did a good job of that today."

The Mirelurks go to 36-59 with the win.

Adamantium Improve to 52-43 with 7-4 Win

The Abernathy Adamantium and Nordhagen Beach Party Boys completed their game despite the rain.

The Abernathy Adamantium trumped the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys, 7-4, at Slocum's Joe Seaside Stadium. Abernathy right fielder Donny Kowalski was terrific. He went 2-4 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. The winning pitcher was Joe Penaltybox. His record is now 12-7. The left-hander went 8 innings, allowing 4 runs on 8 hits for the Adamantium.

Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Bernie Gonzalez? The Abernathy left fielder had a 2-run double in the top of the first inning to put the Adamantium on top, 3-0. For the game, Gonzalez had 1 double and 1 single in 3 at-bats.

"I just tried to make good contact," said Gonzalez.

The win gives Abernathy a season record of 52-43.

Silver Shroud Win at The Slog, 9-6

The Fort Hagen Silver Shroud topped the The Slog Ghouls by the score of 9-6, with the biggest share of the credit going to third baseman Organizae Brown. Brown was 2 for 3 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once for the Silver Shroud on the day. With the win, Fort Hagen pushed its record to 63-32.

The game turned with one out in the top of the seventh when Brown hit a run-scoring single. It propelled the Silver Shroud into the lead, 7-6.

"I'm just happy to help the team win," Brown told the Fort Hagen Gazette.

Diamond City Beats Quincy, 9-7, Clinches RL

Diamond City and Quincy duked it out and the Swatters came out victorious.

The Diamond City Swatters beat the Quincy Gunners, 9-7, at The Stone House. Oren Gep, in particular, was impressive. He was 3 for 5 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. Josh Samm notched his 36th save in 39 chances.

Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Witcher Craft? The Diamond City center fielder had a run-scoring single in the top of the second inning to put the Swatters on top, 2-0. For the game, Craft had 1 double and 3 singles in 5 at-bats.

"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Gep told the Diamond City News.

The victory gives Diamond City a record of 66-29 and clinched the Railroad League title for the Swatters, their first.

Ratican Boosts Hit Streak to 20 Games

Matt Ratican of the Roxbury Knuckle Punchers tagged 1 hit in today's 5-4 loss to the Atom Cats at Coolest Field in Town to run his hitting streak to 20 straight games.

"I realize it's unlikely to have a 20-game streak and not have a couple losses mixed in," he said later. "But it still takes the fun out of it."

Matt Ratican singled in the 2nd, flied out in the 4th, grounded out in the 6th and flied out in the 8th.

This year Ratican is batting .327 with 16 home runs and 60 RBIs. In 95 games he has scored 65 times.

Danse Stretches Hit String to 25

Egret left fielder Paladin Danse keeps on racking up hits every time he plays.

His hitting streak now stands at 25 games after collecting 1 hit at Fallon Field at Egret Tours Marina today. The Ninjas took the 10-6 victory over the Jamaica Plain Red Rockets.

"I have been seeing the ball really good the last few weeks, but I am a bit surprised how things are working out," Danse said. "I've gotten a couple flares to drop in, so I've also been a little lucky."

Paladin Danse struck out in the 1st, grounded out in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, flied out in the 6th and struck out in the 8th.

Presently Danse is batting .320 with 120 hits and 35 home runs. He has knocked in 102 runs and scored 83 times.

Love the award name! Fits perfectly for the league scheme.

And not surprising Quartz took home Manager of the Year and Pitcher of the Year, will they complete the award sweep with MVP like they did in the finals?

I'm letting the AI pick all award winners, but I would assume that the Nuka King Award is between Cherry's Andre Garden and Quantum's Rocket Steadman. Lackey Parkman of Wild and Ham Porter of Grape are also dark horse candidates.

Based off the silver slugger equivalent winners I was thinking they didn't really have a chance. I think/hope Stedman will get it, but Garden did manage to get to the finals. Not sure if the AI takes that into account like some real life voters do

The Thirst Zapper Award was the easiest one to pull from Fallout-based weaponry and lore. I probably could do better with some of the other award names. The MVP award relates directly to Kiddie Kingdom, too.

Updated Pennant Chase in BMU

After Thursday's games, we have a few more teams eliminated and league races are beginning to look closer to the end. Still, with three weeks and 11 games left to play, we probably will not have any leagues settled by next week. Here's hoping for an exciting September finish for the 11 teams still in the playoff chase.
