The St. Louis Cardinals have released outfielder Alex Verdugo and called up third baseman Raul Guzman from AAA Memphis.
The scuttlebutt seems to be Verdugo has been released at the request of his teammates who had deemed him an issue in the clubhouse.
The veteran outfielder had been called up from AAA Memphis on Sept. 4 after infielder Nico Hoerner had been placed on the 10-day injured list with a sprained ankle.
Verdugo, 32, played well after his initial callup but had cooled off in the last few days.
In six games with the Cardinals, five of them starts, he had hit .211 with one home run and three RBIs.
Getting called up from AAA Memphis is 25-year-old third baseman Raul Guzman.
In 107 games/96 starts this season between AAA Memphis and AA Springfield, he has hit .253 with 13 home runs and 50 RBIs.
This will be his first time in the majors.
