MLB: 1946-1956 & 1960. Logged 8 seasons with the Cincy
Reds at the start of his career. Was an N.L. all-star
for them in 1952 although his best year was
probably 1947 (16HR, 77 RBI, .281 B. Avg.)
He later managed the Houston Astros (1966-1968).

The Facepack only contains players who appeared in a Major League game. As noted in another thread, the Sir Lurksalot thread contains many great photos of Negro League players who did not reach the Majors. Any of these photos could be inserted into your copy of the Facepack, if you so desire.


It's been a while since I updated the community on my ongoing projects so here's what is currently on my plate:

I have recently taken on a new role within the SABR Pictorial History Committee and in that role I am working to expand the image index beyond the Major Leagues. Being a Northwesterner I'm focusing on the PCL first, with other minor leagues to follow. I've also started putting together a romanized listing of *** players with the hopes of creating an image tracking database. That is turning out to be a much longer-term project than I expected because the two primary romanized *** databases I have include many translation differences.

I know that there are also at least two different Negro League photo projects going on right now, one comprehensive and another targeted on the early 20th Century. Once a comprehensive database is available I will begin assembling a Negro Leagues photopack as well.

Looking even farther ahead I'm hoping to compile a Caribbean pack at some point.

Keep in mind that these are all long-term (some VERY long-term) projects, but wanted to update the community with the different efforts currently in process. Anyone who would like to participate in and/or contribute to these projects can let me know by PM or email.
