Walkers news: August 11 -- St. Louis 10, Louisville 1

Record: 63-47, 1st, 5.5 GA Des Moines
St. Louis sent nine batters to the plate in the first inning -- scoring four runs -- to set the tone for a 10-1 rout of Louisville at Busch Stadium (2006).
Beginning with a lead-off single by Bob Saavedra off Sluggers starting pitcher Esteban Serna, the River Walkers had six of their first seven hitters reach base.
Included in that was a two-run double by Nick Shaw, he would go 4 for 4 in the game with three doubles, a homer and five RBIs, an RBI double by Mark Waterson and a run-scoring single by Jackson Miller.
Saavedra made it 5-0 when he led off the bottom of the second with his 13th homer of the season.
Shaw cranked his 19th homer of 2037, also a solo shot, this one off Hugh Fisher in the sixth to push the St. Louis lead to 6-0.
David Morales provided the lone Louisville run in the top of the seventh with a homer off Walkers starting pitcher Josh McDonald.
McDonald (6-6) had a good outing, allowing the one run on five hits in 6.1 innings. He struck out four and walked two.
Maximilliano Minelli finished off the seventh.
Brett McVey worked the final two innings for the Walkers, not allowing a run.
St. Louis made it lopsided with a four-run bottom of the seventh.

Record: 63-48, 1st, 5.5 GA Des Moines
Louisville jumped out to a 5-0 lead behind a three-run homer from Jose Gonzalez in the top of the second inning and a two-run shot from Lance Brown in the third, both off St. Louis starting pitcher Ming Xiang, and that propelled the Sluggers to a 7-5 win at Busch Stadium (2006).
The second-inning homer by Gonzalez was his first of the season.
For Brown, a former top prospect for St. Louis, his homer in the third was his 24th.
The River Walkers did make a game of it.
They scored three times in the bottom of the fourth off Louisville starter Danny Wright.
Mark Waterson (double), Marcos Francis (double) and Jackson Miller (single) all had run-scoring two-out hits.
But it would be 7-3 by the time the Walkers would score again.
Dan Boyle led off the seventh with a homer off Nick Ruffalo.
Chris Ring connected on an RBI double off Maximiliano Minelli in the eighth.
St. Louis got late solo homers from Francis (off Matt Whitmore) and Mark Herman (off Tom Floria) to cap the scoring.
Wright didn't last long enough to earn the win.
He pitched 4.2 innings, allowing three runs on eight hits. He struck out two and walked one.
Hugh Fisher finished off the fifth for the Sluggers.
The win went to Cole Duensing (2-2), who pitched a scoreless sixth.
After that, it was an inning each for Antonio Gonzalez, Whitmore and Floria.

Walkers news: August 13 -- Louisville 9, St. Louis 4

Record: 63-49, 1st, 5.5 GA Des Moines
Louisville ripped St. Louis starting pitcher Jesse McNaboe for four runs in the top of the first inning and rode that hot start to a 9-4 win at Busch Stadium (2006).
The win was the second in a row for the Sluggers to wrap up the three-game series.
McNaboe could not find the plate to start the game, walking Louisville's first two hitters Chris Zoltan and Dan Boyle.
Bobby Chapman followed with a single to load the bases.
Lance Brown then opened the scoring a sacrifice fly, scoring Zoltan.
Caleb Kinney quickly made it 4-0 smashing the first pitch he saw 371 feet over the right-field wall.
The Sluggers pushed their lead to 5-0 in the third.
Will Banfield doubled off McNaboe. He scored on a single by pitcher Jason James.
McNaboe was gone by the sixth inning when Louisville added three more runs off Ron Cox to go up 8-0.
Brown, a former Walkers prospect, did the damage with his 25th homer of the season, a three-run shot.
St. Louis did show some life late.
Bob Saavedra and Manuel Coke hit solo homers off James in the sixth, slicing the deficit to 8-2.
Joe Bien, another former Walkers prospect, answered with a solo homer off Cox in the seventh.
Cox then hit Jario Diaz leading to a bench-clearing brawl.
A suspension likely awaits Cox.
St. Louis tallied single runs in the eighth (Mark Herman solo homer off Clyde Rayner) and ninth (Jordan Quinto tripled off Matt Whitmore and scored on a Chris Duncan double) to cap the scoring.
James (7-9) got the win after allowing two runs on five hits over the first six innings. He struck out five and walked one.
Cyde Rayner (1.1 IP) and Cole Duensing (0.1) combined to pitch the seventh and eighth innings for Louisville.

Walkers news: August 14 -- Cox and Louisville's Diaz suspended after dust up

St. Louis River Walkers relief pitcher Ron Cox and Louisville Sluggers shortstop Jario Diaz have both been suspended for four games after they got into a fight during their August 13 game at Dodger Stadium.
Cox, 25, seemed to purposely hit Diaz with a pitch after allowing a home run to the Sluggers' Joe Bien during the top of the seventh inning of Louisville's 9-4 victory.
Both players will have to sit for four games.

Walkers news: August 19 -- Chicago 5, St. Louis 4

Record: 65-53, 1st, 5.5 GA Des Moines
Mark Herman became the first St. Louis River Walkers to hit for the cycle, but it was not enough to carry his team to a win over Chicago at Wrigley Field (1938).
The G-Men won the game 5-4 on a walk-off three-run home run by Josh Rosborough with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Herman had completed his cycle with a solo homer off Chicago reliever Devin Eyre to lead off the top of the ninth to put the Walkers ahead 4-1.
But it's been a rough season for the St. Louis bullpen and this game was another example.
Closer Bobby Westerman took the mound to start the inning.
He sandwiched a single by Willie Rubio and a walk to Danny Gutierrez around a strike out.
He then gave up a double to Colt Wheaton to make the score 4-2.
Westerman, who was pitching for the fourth time in five games, was replaced by Brett McVey.
McVey's first pitch to Rosborough.
It landed 483 feet into the second deck of the center field bleachers to give the G-Men the win.
Chicago starting pitcher Greg Sadler allowed three runs on 10 hits over the first six innings.
He struck out 11 and walked two.
Erik Perry pitched a scoreless seventh inning.
Eyre worked the eighth, giving up the Herman homer, and recorded the first out of the ninth.
Nick Black (1-2) wrapped up the ninth. That set him up to earn the win.

Trailing 4-3, Dayton hit two home runs in the bottom of the ninth inning -- including a two-run walk off by pinch-hitter Carlos Longoria -- to rally to defeat St. Louis 5-4 at Oriole Park at Camden Yards (1992).
The River Walkers, who fell behind 3-0 after two innings, took the lead in the top of the eighth on a two-run homer by Manuel Coke off Flyers relief pitcher Valentin Pino.
But the St. Louis bullpen once again could not hold a lead.
In its previous game, the Walkers had given up four runs in the bottom of the ninth in a 5-4 loss at Chicago.
Ruben Cruz wasted no time tying the game leading off the inning with a solo shot off Maximiliano Minelli.
Ron Cox then took over

But a walk to Bobby Carrasco followed.
It was then Longoria's turn and he turned on a 2-1 pitch and blasted it 404 feet over the left-field wall.
The home run was the third allowed by Cox in his last two outings and the fourth in his last four appearances.
Pilots starting pitcher Jeff Hall allowed one run on five hits over the first six innnings.
After that, it was one inning each for Jose Infante, Pino and Billy Lavala.

Walkers news: August 26 -- Cintron returns from IL; Pool called up from AAA

Looking to bolster their struggling bullpen, the St. Louis River Walkers have removed left-hander Armando Cintron from the injured list and called up right-hander Elvis Pool from AAA Memphis.
Cintron, 34, has been with the Walkers since the start of the season but has been injured three separate times since July 9, twice spending time on the 10-day injured list.
The left-handers first two injuries were to the elbow on his throwing arm. The most recent, which occurred August 14, was to his back.
Cintron has pitched well when available this season, going 2-0 with five saves and a 2.36 ERA in 38 games.
St. Louis picked up Pool in a July 7 trade with Peoria.
The Walkers sent veteran center fielder Jose Segura and right-handed reliever Mike Fagan to Peoria in the deal.
Pool has been playing professional baseball since 2025, but only pitched seven games in the majors in four different seasons.
He last appearance in the majors was for Louisville in 2035.
Pool got into two games that season for the Sluggers and went 0-0 with a 27.00 ERA over two-thirds of an inning.
This season, Pool was suffered a torn meniscus during spring training and didn't make his first appearance until July 20 for Memphis against Iowa.
Pool pitched in nine games for the Redbirds, going 1-0 with three saves and a 0.69 ERA.
Getting sent down were 24-year-old right-hander Maximiliano Minelli and left-hander Mark Pendleton.
Minelli was sent to Memphis. Pendleton went to AA Springfield.
Minelli started the season in St. Louis before getting sent down. He returned to the Walkers' roster on July 7.
In 25 games with St. Louis this season, Minelli has gone 0-1 with one save and a 4.56 ERA in 25 games.
Pendleton has had two brief tenures with St. Louis this season having pitched in three games. He compiled no record or ERA.
