Here's my try at Larry Brown. I cut out the pic and put it on a reg. background. I hope it looks OK? I'll try doing the same with Duncan. Now...he has like a light dishwater blond with some redish. I use H/S/L on PSP. If I select his hair, I think that I can just shade it like the rest of his face. What do you think?

This one looks really good to me. The skin tone is great, I toyed around with this image and yours looks much more natural. The stripes on the shoulders and around the collar are well executed, particularly when the original image is so dark in those areas. It looks good on the blank background you have chosen (much easier than trying to interpret the murky stadium. Also because it is a portrait, the kind of school-portrait style neutral backdrop seems normal) The only thing I could suggest is a little nip and tuck around the edges to get rid of some of the black pixels from where you cut out the image. Nice job!

The hair. Always a problem for me with images like this one. There isn't really enough detail in the image to get the hair to look right (especially when it's this blown up) I shrunk it down to about the size you said you use the images in your game and it looks okay though. Sometimes it's easy to get to be too much of a perfectionist. I played around with it a little bit and couldn't do much with the hair (beyond what what you've done). Only thing I thought was the colors are still pretty washed out but there isn't a lot to be done there either. GIMP has a few options called "color enhance", "gaussian blur", and "soft glow" which I used in my image to try to bring out the color in the face and by contrast the hair. Mine looks bad at big size but tolerable when small. (Stole your hat btw)
