As the race for the division title tightens up down the stretch, the GM of Waffletown pulled the trigger on a deal to bolster the already high flying offense of the team. Joining the squad:
1B - Todd Helton (100) - 2000 Larry Doyle will be sent to the reserves to make room. Helton will step into the DH role against right handed pitching, while Ed Delahanty will remain in that role against left handers. https://sabr.org/bioproj/person/todd-helton/ |

After a four year drought, the sound of champagne corks popping filled the Waffletown clubhouse as they secured their ticket to the post season, as well as a division title and a top seed in the conference.
"You don't realize how special this is until you don't make it for a stretch." said closer Jack Stivetts. "Let's just hope this isn't the last celebration this season." The club had a huge performance from newcomer Andre Dawson, who became the first 40/40 player in team history. Attempting to utilize his speed in the leadoff position, Dawson made the most of his many at bats, cranking 40 home runs, with 121 RBIs, 146 runs scored, 17 triples, .300 average, .604 slugging and .964 OPS. He set a Syrups single season batting WAR record with 7.2 (breaking the old record set by Buck Herzog in 2022). And while there are many more batters who had stellar seasons, one who might get overlooked in an end of season write-up is Jim Whitney (yes, starting pitcher Jim Whitney)... he filled in as a starter in right field in 4 different games and managed to hit an impressive .438 (7 for 16 with 3 doubles and 3 RBIs). Waffletown will await the winner of the wild card match between the Broomfield BoSox and the Des Moines Tomahawks |

and in typical PT fashion, the top seeded team crashes and burns in the first round, meekly bowing out in 3 straight games to a team they owned in the regular season (13-6)

A bus pulled up outside The Spile and a lone person stepped off. He tossed his rucksack over his shoulder and headed in to meet his new teammates. Newest find from the scouting department (just pulled from a regular pack):
CL - Joe Nathan (95) - 2006 Mickey Welch will be sent to the reserves to make room on the roster. Nathan will step into the closer role, and Jack Stivetts will shift to a setup role. |

In the early morning hours of April 27, the GM of Waffletown was just waking up with his first cup of coffee. He sleepily scanned over the waiver wire for any early season deals. He glanced at a potential upgrade to his starting staff... rubbed the sleep from his eyes to make sure he wasn't seeing things... and then pulled the trigger. Joining the squad:
SP - Walter Johnson (100) - 1912 Eddie Plank will be sent to the reserves to make room. Old Hoss Radbourn will shift to bullpen duty and Johnson will step into the ace role on the staff. https://sabr.org/bioproj/person/walter-johnson/ |

realized I missed the 2047 wrap up....
After the previous Gold tier runs where Waffletown floundered and quickly retreated back to Silver; fans weren't expecting much from the team. When the final out was made, the Syrups and their fans celebrated a hard fought wild card position and a trip to the playoffs (even if they were the lowest ranked team in the post season). The playoff run was, as many expected, short as Waffletown fell to Norwood in the wild card game 5-2 (giving up all 5 runs in the 7th/8th innings) positive notes from the season: -Cap Anson brought home a batting title (which appears to be the first in Waffletown history if my logs are right), with teammate Tommy McCarthy finishing second. |

In an early season move, the GM of Waffletown nabbed a player off the waiver wire hoping to give a boost to both the offense and defense in one shot. Joining the squad:
RF - Roberto Clemente (100) - 1960 Ed Delahanty will be sent to the reserves to make room. Clemente will take up residence in center field, where management knows he will need time to train up to his potential. Once he does it should give the Waffletown outfield a solid defensive presence with Clemente (should reach 99 by my calculations), Dawson in right (100) and McCarthy in left (102) https://sabr.org/bioproj/person/roberto-clemente/ |

I will have to try this
My Pirates theme team has no real CF; I can stick Roberto out there, move Parker back to RF (I tried him in CF and he only trained up to 62). That will let me pick up Giles to play LF and provide some badly needed LH pop.

A rather forgettable season at the Gold tier came to a close with Waffletown finishing a distant fourth in the division with a 71-91 record. While their offensive-biased ballpark helped boost their rankings in average, runs scored, etc; it obviously had the opposite impact on the pitching and defensive side. Management will review the dimensions of The Spile for next season and decide if they will make any modifications.
Newest arrival Roberto Clemente made the most of his time training in centerfield and increased his defensive rating to a solid 93. With 100+ defense at the outfield corners and 100+ defense at all infield positions (except 1B where Anson is a solid 84), a park that might showcase that aspect of the team could help boost their success. |

Hoping to shore up the pitching for the final innings down the stretch, as the club is teetering on the edge of a playoff position; the GM of Waffletown nabbed a new closer who will hopefully anchor the team for years to come. Joining the squad:
CL - Craig Kimbrel (100) - 2013 Kid Nichols will be sent to the reserves to make room. Management would like to thank Nichols for his many years of service to the team. He joined the club in 2026 as a starting pitcher, then transitioned into a closer role from 2027 to 2035; and finally into a relief role in the bullpen. He finishes with a record of 66-81, with 307 saves and 1497 strikeouts. |

For the second time in seven runs through the Gold level, the Waffletown Syrups will head to the post season. After a hard fought regular season, the Syrups celebrated their wild card clinching win on the last day of the season to finish at 87-75, one game ahead of Brigadoon.
"We're the second wild card team, so all the pressure is on everyone else. No one is picking us to win so we can play free and easy." said shortstop Barry Larkin. Waffletown will travel to play division rival the Stockton Slaps in the wild card game. Waffletown took the season series 12 games to 7. |

Walter Johnson hurls 8 shutout innings and Craig Kimbrel closes the deal in the 9th to bring home a wild card victory for Waffletown.
The Syrups will head to Weston Pointe to face the top seeded Caspers in the LDS. The two teams met 19 times during the regular season with Weston Pointe winning the series 13-6. |

Following the 'free and easy' mantra from Barry Larkin's clubhouse interview during the celebration of their post season berth; Waffletown put aside the regular season 6-13 record versus top seed and division rival Weston Pointe and just played good, solid baseball.
After putting a smackdown on the Caspers in game 1 (where the Syrups scored 8 runs in the first inning en route to an 11-5 victory); they dropped a close match in game 2 (7-6 walk off win for Weston Pointe); but did what they needed to do by snatching one win on the road. At home, Waffletown is a different beast (51-30 during the regular season), and they put that home field advantage to use, with a 3-1 win in game 3, and a series clinching 5-1 win in game 4 to head to the LCS. Todd Helton was awarded the series MVP for his performance at the plate (9 for 17, 2 home runs, 6 RBIs, .529/.579/1.118) Waffletown will head to Beaver College for the LCS. The two teams met 7 times during the regular season with the Syrups taking the series 4 games to 3. |

and as is typical, Waffletown folds like a cheap lawnchair in the LCS and meekly goes down 4 games to 1 to a team they should have handled.
On to Diamond tier and quite possibly the worst season in Syrups history ![]() |

Management, players and fans alike knew a season at the Diamond tier would be a challenge, and they weren't wrong. On the plus side, since it was expected, fans still packed The Spile to watch the spectacle.
When the trap door finally opened up to take the team back to the Gold tier, it was a welcomed event. Waffletown ended the season with their worst record in franchise history: 49-113 "Ya gotta just forget about it and move on." said pitcher Matt Kilroy. "Though hopefully my last game sets the standard for next season." (Kilroy won his final game of the season to break a personal 16 game losing streak.) |

a roller coaster season ended with Waffletown finishing a respectable 2nd in the division with a record of 88-74. A solid 19-9 run in the final stretch of the year gives management and fans alike hope that they can build off that for next season and make a run in the post season (and with the war chest growing steadily, management will be keeping a close eye on the waiver wire for potential improvements).

while sipping on his first cup of coffee, the GM of Waffletown browsed over the waiver wire for the latest player offerings. He spotted a player on his wishlist and at a reasonable price; and pulled the trigger to bring him aboard. Joining the club:
SS- Ernie Banks (100) - 1960 Johnny Kling will be sent to the reserves to make room. Deacon White will shift to become backup catcher, while Bid McPhee will shift to backup the infield positions; and Banks will train up at second base (where he should reach an impressive 129 defense). https://sabr.org/bioproj/person/ernie-banks/ |
