Banner Ceremonies
All teams with banners being added to their stadiums traditionally hold banner ceremonies. In these ceremonies the banners are put up, the team do a bit of a parade, and there’s generally some music and other frivolity. As a reminder, banners are given for division titles, conference titles, and, of course, World Series titles. This is always a good opportunity to list the winners of previous years in each of these categories. In bold are this year’s winners, and thus holders of this year's banner ceremonies. We had a couple of first time division winners, which is always nice! TAO South America Division 1. Lima Cavies: 5 (2043, 2044, 2046, 2056, 2057) 2. Asuncion Pampas Foxes: 3 (2040, 2049, 2059) 3. 2060 Pre-Season Predictions
Baseball World has fired up its spreadsheets and dusted off the crystal ball for its annual 2060 pre-season predictions—and for the Sheffield Mountain Hares, it’s a familiar tune with a bittersweet twist. The Hares are forecasted to post a solid 84–78 record, good enough for eighth in the Europe-Africa-Asia (EAA) Conference. Respectable, but once again just shy of that elusive playoff breakthrough. The headline act in the Europe Division is the Bucharest Sounds, projected to roar to a 105–57 finish. That’s not just good—it’s the best record in the entire WBL, making them World Series favourites. Much of their dominance is expected to come from the mound, with a projected ERA of 3.75, comfortably ahead of any other team on the continent. For a team that already knows how to hit, that kind of pitching could be the difference-maker. Sheffield will have their hands full trying to stay in the same conversation. Elsewhere in the EAA, things are just as fierce. The Africa Division looks like a dogfight, with the Kinshasa Leopards forecasted to finish atop the standings at 97–65. But don’t count out the Nairobi Nomads or the ever-pesky Dar es Salaam Giraffes—both nipping close behind. Expect lightning-fast base running and wild atmospheres in what’s shaping up to be one of the most entertaining divisional races on the continent. Over in the West & South East Asia Division, the Karachi Seafarers are expected to make waves with 99 wins, backed by a deep lineup and a rotation that rarely blinks. But this isn’t a solo voyage—Baghdad and Yangon are right in the mix, ready to turn any Karachi slip into a full-blown sprint for the crown. Meanwhile, in the West & Central Asia Division, the Guangzhou Rams are tipped to come out on top with 93 wins, staving off strong challenges from the Osaka Blossoms and the newly relocated and rebranded Harbin Icecaps. With three teams projected within 4 wins, this could be the most volatile division in the EAA—where one bad fortnight could mean a fall from grace. On the other end of the spectrum, the Milan Tailors, Mogadishu Seashells, and Harare Hippos are forecasted to bring up the rear in the conference, all projected for 64 wins or fewer. For those clubs, 2060 may be less about silverware and more about foundation-laying. Across the Atlantic, the TAO Conference has its own heavyweights. The Asunción Pampas Foxes are tipped to dominate the South America Division with 100 wins, just ahead of a resurgent Lima and São Paulo. Up in North America–East, the Miami Swordfish are expected to match that century mark, standing neck-and-neck with the Memphis Steamers and Atlanta Eagles. Notably, Memphis enters the season boasting the WBL’s lowest projected ERA at a stingy 3.68—if they score enough, they could be the most dangerous team in the league. Out west, the Idaho Owls are projected to soar to their first North America–West Division title with 93 wins, fending off Arizona’s 86-win push. And in the Central America & Oceania Division, it’s the Guatemala City Ocelots expected to pounce with 94 wins, chased by well-rounded squads in Panama City and Port Moresby. As for those at the bottom of the TAO ladder, it’s a gloomy forecast for St. Paul, Perth, Paramaribo, and California—all slated for 68 wins or fewer. So while the Hares aren’t the storybook heroes this time around, there’s belief in the camp. A strong April, a hot streak in June, a few breakout arms—and suddenly 84 wins might not be the ceiling, but the floor. The rest of the world may not see it yet, but in Sheffield, hope is quietly stretching its legs.

Sheffield Mountain Hares 2060 Season Preview
With spring on the horizon, Sheffield’s faithful are turning their eyes toward another WBL campaign — and there’s cautious optimism that this mix of veterans, breakout hopefuls, and intriguing new faces could give the Mountain Hares a competitive edge. Here's a position-by-position look at who’s likely to take the field in 2060: Lineup Position Players Catcher – Adam Koehler The team’s current star is back for another season behind the plate. Fresh off a superb 2059 that earned him an All-Star nod, Koehler remains one of the WBL’s elite defensive catchers — but it’s his unexpected offensive surge that has fans buzzing. Australian prospect Drew Worsfold, a surprise 15th-round pick in 2058, gets the call-up from AAA to back him up. First Base – Sergio Rutz Now 34, the ever-reliable Honduran slugger is still a central figure in the lineup, coming off a 27-homer campaign. Yakov Tolochko, the powerful young Russian promoted from the minors, will serve as his understudy and could be one to watch. Second Base – Rob Graham The Australian second baseman had a promising rookie year in 2058, but struggled to replicate that form last season. Still just 23, Graham’s flashes of brilliance have fans hoping this is the year he finds consistency. Third Base – Tristan Juhl The newly signed 31-year-old arrives from the Dhaka Mammoths to take over at the hot corner. A steady bat with good contact skills and sure hands in the field, Juhl may not dazzle — but he’s a welcome addition at a spot where the Hares have lacked reliability. Marty King will provide depth. Shortstop – Jon Milz Defensively, the 31-year-old American is elite — two Gold Gloves (2052, 2053) prove that — but offensively, he's a liability, hitting just .178 last year. Signed as a free agent, Milz offers little upside with the bat, and fans are right to question his status as a starter. Left Field – Eskinder Ali One of the WBL’s rare two-way players, the Central African star was electric when he wasn't injured. With 2.0 WAR at the plate and 1.0 WAR on the mound in just a third of a season, Ali’s potential is enormous — he could be the cornerstone of this team’s future. Belarusian Kolya Saetgaliev adds quality depth in what is arguably Sheffield’s strongest position. Right Field – Jesus Morales A familiar face in the outfield, Morales isn’t flashy, but he’s a dependable glove with occasional pop. His average may frustrate, but he’s a known quantity. Center Field – Nsen Ngunda Making his long-awaited debut is 24-year-old Moroccan Nsen Ngunda, drafted in 2056. A plus defender with solid power and a keen eye at the plate, Ngunda could quietly become one of the steals of the season. Pitching Staff Starting Rotation Eskinder Ali Ali’s two-way talent makes him a fascinating figure. He started stronger than he finished last year, but a 3.88 ERA in a partial rookie season shows promise. If he stays healthy, he could blossom into Sheffield’s ace. Yushua bin Saqr, Isaac Saville & Alois Herzog The trio returns to anchor a rotation that has long been the Hares’ backbone. Saville and Herzog both posted ERAs below 4.00, while bin Saqr remains his dependable, if unspectacular, self. Urbano Bercivici A savvy offseason addition, the 40-year-old Italian veteran brings elite control and a 2058 All-Star pedigree. He may lack overpowering stuff, but he should be a reliable back-end option — though at his age, expectations must be managed. Bullpen Sheffield’s bullpen is packed with experienced arms. Leading the charge is Nestor Berrios, the standout Filipino reliever from last season. Joining him is Egyptian flamethrower Sarsour Burhan, claimed off waivers in 2058. With a nasty fastball and impressive command, he adds an intriguing new weapon to a solid relief corps. With a roster full of steady veterans, breakout hopefuls, and a few rising stars, the 2060 Mountain Hares aren’t flashy — but they might just be dangerous.

Sheffield Mountain Hares at Madrid Mallards
The Hares take on last year's division champions in their opening series. ![]() Game 1 – April 2, 2060 Madrid Mallards 9, Sheffield Mountain Hares 0 The Sheffield Mountain Hares opened their 2060 WBL campaign with a tough 9-0 loss at home to the Madrid Mallards, struggling to make an impact on either side of the ball. Madrid starter Josh Martin was dominant, tossing six scoreless innings with seven strikeouts and earning Player of the Game honours. The Mallards broke the game open in the middle innings, capitalizing on Sheffield’s shaky bullpen. WBL veteran M. Clerc led the way offensively, going 3-for-3 with a homer, walk, and three RBIs, while outfielder Abin Nu'man delivered a clutch two-run single in the fourth to extend Madrid’s lead to 3-0. Sheffield starter Yushua bin Saqr was tagged for five runs across five innings, but things only worsened after his exit. Relievers Seth Phillips and Francisco Flores allowed four more runs over the next three innings. Offensively, the Mountain Hares managed five hits, with doubles from Jesus Morales and Nsen Ngunda, but went 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position. It was a flat start to the season for Sheffield, who’ll be looking for a spark in game two of the series. --- Game 2 – April 3, 2060 Madrid Mallards 14, Sheffield Mountain Hares 2 The Madrid Mallards overpowered the Sheffield Mountain Hares for the second straight game, cruising to a 14-2 victory behind a historic performance from right fielder Michel Clerc, who went 5-for-6 with a home run, three RBIs, and five runs scored. It marked a new single-game hit record for the Mallards. Madrid jumped out early with three runs in the first and never looked back. Sheffield starter Isaac Saville struggled, giving up seven runs over five innings, while the bullpen allowed seven more. Despite the lopsided scoreline, Eskinder Ali offered a rare bright spot for Sheffield with a solo homer in the third — their only extra-base hit. Madrid pounded out 20 hits in total, with J. Comte, F. Lopez, and A. bin Nu'man also going deep. Sheffield’s offence managed just five hits, and their defence was let down by two double plays grounded into. The Mountain Hares fall to 0-2. --- Game 3 – April 4, 2060 Sheffield Mountain Hares 13, Madrid Mallards 5 The Sheffield Mountain Hares erupted offensively to claim their first win of the season, hammering the Madrid Mallards 13-5. Eskinder Ali set the tone, going 2-for-3 with a home run, walk, and three RBIs. Sheffield struck early, scoring twice in the first and second innings, then delivering a knockout blow with a seven-run seventh. Rookie DH Espen Aas provided the game’s exclamation point, launching a three-run shot off Madrid reliever Andy Barney in the seventh — his first WBL home run. Jesus Morales and Rob Graham each doubled and scored twice, while eight different Mountain Hares crossed the plate. On the mound, Alois Herzog earned the win with six strong innings, allowing just two earned runs and striking out three. Madrid’s Z. Storm suffered the loss, tagged for five runs in four innings. The result trims Madrid’s series lead to 2-1 and gives Sheffield a much-needed boost before their next matchup.

Sheffield Mountain Hares at Riyadh Falcons
![]() Game 1 — April 5, 2060 The Riyadh Bedouins overpowered the Sheffield Mountain Hares 11–5, with shortstop Halim Kabalia making a major impact. Kabalia went 2-for-3 with a home run, a walk, and three runs scored, driving in two. His second-inning blast off Sheffield starter Urbano Bercovici set the tone for Riyadh’s offense, which piled up 15 hits. X. Chan, J. Kim, and C. Robertson each added multi-hit games. Winning pitcher Travis Hames delivered 7.1 innings of two-run ball, scattering four hits while striking out six. Sheffield struggled to keep pace, with late RBIs from T. Juhl and J. Milz offering little resistance to Riyadh’s relentless attack. Player of the Game: Halim Kabalia Game 2 — April 6, 2060 Adam Apgar led Riyadh to a 3–1 victory and a series win over Sheffield. The Bedouins’ starter tossed six innings of three-hit, one-run ball, walking four and striking out four. Riyadh’s key blow came in the second, when Frank Garcia launched a two-run homer off Eskinder Ali to put the hosts ahead for good. Garcia finished 3-for-4 with another RBI single, earning Player of the Game honors. Sheffield’s lone run came in the sixth on a double by S. Rutz, but their offense sputtered with just four hits. Relievers C. Shuai, L. Marrero, and M. Enriquez combined for three scoreless innings to close it out. Player of the Game: Adam Apgar Game 3 — April 7, 2060 The Mountain Hares edged Riyadh 6–4 in a back-and-forth contest. Riyadh starter Arturo Johnson was sharp early, but Sheffield struck in the seventh when pinch-hitter Abdul-Karim bin Jameel lined a two-run single to break a 4–4 tie. Bin Jameel’s only at-bat proved decisive, earning him the game’s top honors. E. Aas and K. Sagetaylef also homered for Sheffield. On the mound, Yin bin Saqr earned the win with 5.1 innings of three-run work, while Tyler Allen closed for his first save. Riyadh’s G. Baiya homered and M. Burton doubled, but the hosts couldn’t cash in enough late chances. Player of the Game: Arturo Johnson ⸻

Sheffield Mountain Hares at Milan Tailors
![]() Logo by @20_range Following the last series against the 2059 European Division champions, the Hares now head to the other side of the scale and play 2060 expansion newcomers the Milan Tailors. April 9th, 2060 — Milan Tailors 2, Sheffield Mountain Hares 0 The Sheffield Mountain Hares dropped the series opener to the Milan Tailors, falling 2-0 in a tightly contested pitcher’s duel. Milan’s right-hander Farri Mjima was the difference-maker, firing 5.0 shutout innings while scattering four hits and striking out five. The bullpen quartet of Marsh, Djambek, Garcia, and Kojic slammed the door to preserve the win. Sheffield’s Isaac Saville battled hard, lasting 5.2 innings while allowing just two runs, but he was undone in the sixth when Vinnie Bristcoe delivered a clutch RBI triple and later scored on a Marwan Atif single. The Mountain Hares’ offense struggled all night, stranding 11 runners and going hitless in key scoring opportunities. Milan’s pitching staff allowed just six hits in total, keeping Sheffield off balance throughout. Player of the Game: Farri Mjima --- April 10th, 2060 — Sheffield Mountain Hares 7, Milan Tailors 3 The Sheffield Mountain Hares struck back in Game 2, defeating the Milan Tailors 7-3 to even the series. Milan starter Oleg Kondas was strong early, tossing six innings of two-hit ball while allowing just one run, but Sheffield broke through once the bullpen took over. The turning point came in the seventh when Adam Koehler crushed a three-run homer off Bruno Garcia, pushing Sheffield ahead 4-2. Moments later, J. Morales added a two-run shot against H. Kim to blow the game open. Eirik Aas also contributed a solo blast earlier in the fifth. On the mound, Andrew Herzog battled through five innings, allowing two runs, with Felipe Flores earning the win in relief after holding Milan scoreless in the sixth and seventh. Milan managed nine hits but stranded too many runners, while defensive miscues compounded their struggles. Player of the Game: Oleg Kondas --- April 11th, 2060 — Sheffield Mountain Hares 7, Milan Tailors 3 The Sheffield Mountain Hares clinched the series with a 7-3 win over the Milan Tailors, powered by Kolya Saetagliev’s two home runs. The left fielder went 2-for-4 with four RBIs, delivering a solo shot in the second and a decisive three-run blast off Bailey Hunt in the eighth to seal the victory. Sheffield’s offense broke through early against Milan starter Jack Ferris, who allowed four runs across six innings, including a triple from J. Morales and doubles by Morales, Saetagliev, and Koehler. Urbano Bercovici steadied the Mountain Hares on the mound, pitching 6.2 innings of three-run ball with seven strikeouts to earn his first win of the season. Milan countered with a pair of homers from Cristian Diaz and Khalid Kitchen, but could not keep pace, stranding key baserunners. Player of the Game: Kolya Saetagliev --- Series Recap After being blanked in the opener, Sheffield’s bats roared to life, taking the next two games by identical 7-3 scores to win the series. Power proved the difference, with homers from Eirik Aas, Adam Koehler, J. Morales, and Kolya Saetagliev driving the offense. Saetagliev’s two-homer performance in Game 3 sealed the comeback and gave the Mountain Hares much-needed momentum after a slow start to the season. Milan, meanwhile, relied on strong pitching in Game 1 but faltered once its bullpen was exposed. Both teams now sit at 4-5, but Sheffield will feel it has turned a corner with this road series win.
