Banner Ceremonies

All teams with banners being added to their stadiums traditionally hold banner ceremonies. In these ceremonies the banners are put up, the team do a bit of a parade, and there’s generally some music and other frivolity. As a reminder, banners are given for division titles, conference titles, and, of course, World Series titles. This is always a good opportunity to list the winners of previous years in each of these categories. In bold are this year’s winners, and thus holders of this year's banner ceremonies.

We had a couple of first time division winners, which is always nice!

2060 Pre-Season Predictions

Baseball World has fired up its spreadsheets and dusted off the crystal ball for its annual 2060 pre-season predictions—and for the Sheffield Mountain Hares, it’s a familiar tune with a bittersweet twist. The Hares are forecasted to post a solid 84–78 record, good enough for eighth in the Europe-Africa-Asia (EAA) Conference. Respectable, but once again just shy of that elusive playoff breakthrough.

The headline act in the Europe Division is the Bucharest Sounds, projected to roar to a 105–57 finish. That’s not just good—it’s the best record in the entire WBL, making them World Series favourites. Much of their dominance is expected to come from the mound, with a projected ERA of 3.75, comfortably ahead of any other team on the continent. For a team that already knows how to hit, that kind of pitching could be the difference-maker. Sheffield will have their hands full trying to stay in the same conversation.

Elsewhere in the EAA, things are just as fierce. The Africa Division looks like a dogfight, with the Kinshasa Leopards forecasted to finish atop the standings at 97–65. But don’t count out the Nairobi Nomads or the ever-pesky Dar es Salaam Giraffes—both nipping close behind. Expect lightning-fast base running and wild atmospheres in what’s shaping up to be one of the most entertaining divisional races on the continent.

Over in the West & South East Asia Division, the Karachi Seafarers are expected to make waves with 99 wins, backed by a deep lineup and a rotation that rarely blinks. But this isn’t a solo voyage—Baghdad and Yangon are right in the mix, ready to turn any Karachi slip into a full-blown sprint for the crown.

Meanwhile, in the West & Central Asia Division, the Guangzhou Rams are tipped to come out on top with 93 wins, staving off strong challenges from the Osaka Blossoms and the newly relocated and rebranded Harbin Icecaps. With three teams projected within 4 wins, this could be the most volatile division in the EAA—where one bad fortnight could mean a fall from grace.

On the other end of the spectrum, the Milan Tailors, Mogadishu Seashells, and Harare Hippos are forecasted to bring up the rear in the conference, all projected for 64 wins or fewer. For those clubs, 2060 may be less about silverware and more about foundation-laying.

Across the Atlantic, the TAO Conference has its own heavyweights. The Asunción Pampas Foxes are tipped to dominate the South America Division with 100 wins, just ahead of a resurgent Lima and São Paulo. Up in North America–East, the Miami Swordfish are expected to match that century mark, standing neck-and-neck with the Memphis Steamers and Atlanta Eagles. Notably, Memphis enters the season boasting the WBL’s lowest projected ERA at a stingy 3.68—if they score enough, they could be the most dangerous team in the league.

Out west, the Idaho Owls are projected to soar to their first North America–West Division title with 93 wins, fending off Arizona’s 86-win push. And in the Central America & Oceania Division, it’s the Guatemala City Ocelots expected to pounce with 94 wins, chased by well-rounded squads in Panama City and Port Moresby.

As for those at the bottom of the TAO ladder, it’s a gloomy forecast for St. Paul, Perth, Paramaribo, and California—all slated for 68 wins or fewer.

So while the Hares aren’t the storybook heroes this time around, there’s belief in the camp. A strong April, a hot streak in June, a few breakout arms—and suddenly 84 wins might not be the ceiling, but the floor. The rest of the world may not see it yet, but in Sheffield, hope is quietly stretching its legs.

Sheffield Mountain Hares 2060 Season Preview

With spring on the horizon, Sheffield’s faithful are turning their eyes toward another WBL campaign — and there’s cautious optimism that this mix of veterans, breakout hopefuls, and intriguing new faces could give the Mountain Hares a competitive edge. Here's a position-by-position look at who’s likely to take the field in 2060:

Lineup

Position Players

Catcher – Adam Koehler
The team’s current star is back for another season behind the plate. Fresh off a superb 2059 that earned him an All-Star nod, Koehler remains one of the WBL’s elite defensive catchers — but it’s his unexpected offensive surge that has fans buzzing. Australian prospect Drew Worsfold, a surprise 15th-round pick in 2058, gets the call-up from AAA to back him up.

First Base – Sergio Rutz
Now 34, the ever-reliable Honduran slugger is still a central figure in the lineup, coming off a 27-homer campaign. Yakov Tolochko, the powerful young Russian promoted from the minors, will serve as his understudy and could be one to watch.

Second Base – Rob Graham
The Australian second baseman had a promising rookie year in 2058, but struggled to replicate that form last season. Still just 23, Graham’s flashes of brilliance have fans hoping this is the year he finds consistency.

Third Base – Tristan Juhl
The newly signed 31-year-old arrives from the Dhaka Mammoths to take over at the hot corner. A steady bat with good contact skills and sure hands in the field, Juhl may not dazzle — but he’s a welcome addition at a spot where the Hares have lacked reliability. Marty King will provide depth.

Shortstop – Jon Milz
Defensively, the 31-year-old American is elite — two Gold Gloves (2052, 2053) prove that — but offensively, he's a liability, hitting just .178 last year. Signed as a free agent, Milz offers little upside with the bat, and fans are right to question his status as a starter.

Left Field – Eskinder Ali
One of the WBL’s rare two-way players, the Central African star was electric when he wasn't injured. With 2.0 WAR at the plate and 1.0 WAR on the mound in just a third of a season, Ali’s potential is enormous — he could be the cornerstone of this team’s future. Belarusian Kolya Saetgaliev adds quality depth in what is arguably Sheffield’s strongest position.

Right Field – Jesus Morales
A familiar face in the outfield, Morales isn’t flashy, but he’s a dependable glove with occasional pop. His average may frustrate, but he’s a known quantity.

Center Field – Nsen Ngunda
Making his long-awaited debut is 24-year-old Moroccan Nsen Ngunda, drafted in 2056. A plus defender with solid power and a keen eye at the plate, Ngunda could quietly become one of the steals of the season.

Pitching Staff

Starting Rotation

Eskinder Ali
Ali’s two-way talent makes him a fascinating figure. He started stronger than he finished last year, but a 3.88 ERA in a partial rookie season shows promise. If he stays healthy, he could blossom into Sheffield’s ace.

Yushua bin Saqr, Isaac Saville & Alois Herzog
The trio returns to anchor a rotation that has long been the Hares’ backbone. Saville and Herzog both posted ERAs below 4.00, while bin Saqr remains his dependable, if unspectacular, self.

Urbano Bercivici
A savvy offseason addition, the 40-year-old Italian veteran brings elite control and a 2058 All-Star pedigree. He may lack overpowering stuff, but he should be a reliable back-end option — though at his age, expectations must be managed.

Bullpen

Sheffield’s bullpen is packed with experienced arms. Leading the charge is Nestor Berrios, the standout Filipino reliever from last season. Joining him is Egyptian flamethrower Sarsour Burhan, claimed off waivers in 2058. With a nasty fastball and impressive command, he adds an intriguing new weapon to a solid relief corps.

With a roster full of steady veterans, breakout hopefuls, and a few rising stars, the 2060 Mountain Hares aren’t flashy — but they might just be dangerous.

Sheffield Mountain Hares at Madrid Mallards

The Hares take on last year's division champions in their opening series.

Game 1 – April 2, 2060
Madrid Mallards 9, Sheffield Mountain Hares 0
The Sheffield Mountain Hares opened their 2060 WBL campaign with a tough 9-0 loss at home to the Madrid Mallards, struggling to make an impact on either side of the ball. Madrid starter Josh Martin was dominant, tossing six scoreless innings with seven strikeouts and earning Player of the Game honours.

The Mallards broke the game open in the middle innings, capitalizing on Sheffield’s shaky bullpen. WBL veteran M. Clerc led the way offensively, going 3-for-3 with a homer, walk, and three RBIs, while outfielder Abin Nu'man delivered a clutch two-run single in the fourth to extend Madrid’s lead to 3-0.

Sheffield starter Yushua bin Saqr was tagged for five runs across five innings, but things only worsened after his exit. Relievers Seth Phillips and Francisco Flores allowed four more runs over the next three innings. Offensively, the Mountain Hares managed five hits, with doubles from Jesus Morales and Nsen Ngunda, but went 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position.

It was a flat start to the season for Sheffield, who’ll be looking for a spark in game two of the series.

---

Game 2 – April 3, 2060
Madrid Mallards 14, Sheffield Mountain Hares 2
The Madrid Mallards overpowered the Sheffield Mountain Hares for the second straight game, cruising to a 14-2 victory behind a historic performance from right fielder Michel Clerc, who went 5-for-6 with a home run, three RBIs, and five runs scored. It marked a new single-game hit record for the Mallards.

Madrid jumped out early with three runs in the first and never looked back. Sheffield starter Isaac Saville struggled, giving up seven runs over five innings, while the bullpen allowed seven more. Despite the lopsided scoreline, Eskinder Ali offered a rare bright spot for Sheffield with a solo homer in the third — their only extra-base hit.

Madrid pounded out 20 hits in total, with J. Comte, F. Lopez, and A. bin Nu'man also going deep. Sheffield’s offence managed just five hits, and their defence was let down by two double plays grounded into.

The Mountain Hares fall to 0-2.

---

Game 3 – April 4, 2060
Sheffield Mountain Hares 13, Madrid Mallards 5
The Sheffield Mountain Hares erupted offensively to claim their first win of the season, hammering the Madrid Mallards 13-5. Eskinder Ali set the tone, going 2-for-3 with a home run, walk, and three RBIs. Sheffield struck early, scoring twice in the first and second innings, then delivering a knockout blow with a seven-run seventh.

Rookie DH Espen Aas provided the game’s exclamation point, launching a three-run shot off Madrid reliever Andy Barney in the seventh — his first WBL home run. Jesus Morales and Rob Graham each doubled and scored twice, while eight different Mountain Hares crossed the plate.

On the mound, Alois Herzog earned the win with six strong innings, allowing just two earned runs and striking out three. Madrid’s Z. Storm suffered the loss, tagged for five runs in four innings.

The result trims Madrid’s series lead to 2-1 and gives Sheffield a much-needed boost before their next matchup.

Sheffield Mountain Hares at Riyadh Falcons

Game 1 — April 5, 2060
The Riyadh Bedouins overpowered the Sheffield Mountain Hares 11–5, with shortstop Halim Kabalia making a major impact. Kabalia went 2-for-3 with a home run, a walk, and three runs scored, driving in two. His second-inning blast off Sheffield starter Urbano Bercovici set the tone for Riyadh’s offense, which piled up 15 hits. X. Chan, J. Kim, and C. Robertson each added multi-hit games. Winning pitcher Travis Hames delivered 7.1 innings of two-run ball, scattering four hits while striking out six. Sheffield struggled to keep pace, with late RBIs from T. Juhl and J. Milz offering little resistance to Riyadh’s relentless attack.
Player of the Game: Halim Kabalia

Game 2 — April 6, 2060
Adam Apgar led Riyadh to a 3–1 victory and a series win over Sheffield. The Bedouins’ starter tossed six innings of three-hit, one-run ball, walking four and striking out four. Riyadh’s key blow came in the second, when Frank Garcia launched a two-run homer off Eskinder Ali to put the hosts ahead for good. Garcia finished 3-for-4 with another RBI single, earning Player of the Game honors. Sheffield’s lone run came in the sixth on a double by S. Rutz, but their offense sputtered with just four hits. Relievers C. Shuai, L. Marrero, and M. Enriquez combined for three scoreless innings to close it out.
Player of the Game: Adam Apgar

Game 3 — April 7, 2060
The Mountain Hares edged Riyadh 6–4 in a back-and-forth contest. Riyadh starter Arturo Johnson was sharp early, but Sheffield struck in the seventh when pinch-hitter Abdul-Karim bin Jameel lined a two-run single to break a 4–4 tie. Bin Jameel’s only at-bat proved decisive, earning him the game’s top honors. E. Aas and K. Sagetaylef also homered for Sheffield. On the mound, Yin bin Saqr earned the win with 5.1 innings of three-run work, while Tyler Allen closed for his first save. Riyadh’s G. Baiya homered and M. Burton doubled, but the hosts couldn’t cash in enough late chances.
Player of the Game: Arturo Johnson

Sheffield Mountain Hares at Milan Tailors

Logo by @20_range

Following the last series against the 2059 European Division champions, the Hares now head to the other side of the scale and play 2060 expansion newcomers the Milan Tailors.

April 9th, 2060 — Milan Tailors 2, Sheffield Mountain Hares 0

The Sheffield Mountain Hares dropped the series opener to the Milan Tailors, falling 2-0 in a tightly contested pitcher’s duel. Milan’s right-hander Farri Mjima was the difference-maker, firing 5.0 shutout innings while scattering four hits and striking out five. The bullpen quartet of Marsh, Djambek, Garcia, and Kojic slammed the door to preserve the win. Sheffield’s Isaac Saville battled hard, lasting 5.2 innings while allowing just two runs, but he was undone in the sixth when Vinnie Bristcoe delivered a clutch RBI triple and later scored on a Marwan Atif single. The Mountain Hares’ offense struggled all night, stranding 11 runners and going hitless in key scoring opportunities. Series Recap

After being blanked in the opener, Sheffield’s bats roared to life, taking the next two games by identical 7-3 scores to win the series. Power proved the difference, with homers from Eirik Aas, Adam Koehler, J. Morales, and Kolya Saetagliev driving the offense. Saetagliev’s two-homer performance in Game 3 sealed the comeback and gave the Mountain Hares much-needed momentum after a slow start to the season. Milan, meanwhile, relied on strong pitching in Game 1 but faltered once its bullpen was exposed. Both teams now sit at 4-5, but Sheffield will feel it has turned a corner with this road series win.

April 12th, 2060 – Bucharest Sounds 8, Sheffield Mountain Hares 2
The Bucharest Sounds opened their home stand with a convincing 8-2 win over the Sheffield Mountain Hares. Guruvayur Sundaramoorothy earned Player of the Game honors, securing his first victory of the season with 5.2 gritty innings of work. The Sounds’ bats gave him plenty of backing. George Piersic delivered the big blow in the second inning with a two-run triple, turning a 1-0 lead into a three-run cushion. He finished with four RBIs before exiting the game after injuring himself while running the bases. Y. Malot added a strong showing with three hits and two RBIs, while J. Shan belted a solo homer.

Sheffield’s offense struggled to cash in, going just 2-for-8 with runners in scoring position. T. Juhl knocked in a run, and A. Koehler added an RBI double, but the Mountain Hares couldn’t keep pace. Starter E. Ali lasted only 3.2 innings, tagged for five earned runs in the loss.

The Sounds improved to 6-4, while Sheffield slipped to 4-6.

Ngunda and D. Worsfold also chipped in with run-scoring hits, helping build a cushion that held throughout the game.

Bucharest’s lone response came in the seventh, when J. Toth singled home a run with two outs. Despite putting 10 runners on base, the Sounds stranded key chances and went 1-for-10 with men in scoring position. Starter E. Shushud was hit early, surrendering four runs across four innings.

The Mountain Hares improved to 5-6 with the win, while Bucharest dropped to 6-5.

April 14th, 2060 – Sheffield Mountain Hares 8, Bucharest Sounds 2
The Sheffield Mountain Hares secured the series win with an 8-2 triumph over the Bucharest Sounds, powered by a three-hit performance from Adam Koehler, who earned Player of the Game honors. Koehler’s key moment came in the fourth inning when he launched a two-run homer off Danny Aguirre, giving Sheffield a 3-1 lead they never surrendered. He finished the night 3-for-3 with two RBIs and a walk.

The Mountain Hares piled on offensively, with J. Morales driving in two runs and swiping a pair of bases, while M. King added a late solo shot. Sheffield collected 11 hits and went 5-for-13 with runners in scoring position, making the most of their chances.

On the mound, I. Saville turned in a solid start, working 6.2 innings and allowing just two runs while striking out five. Three relievers combined for scoreless work to close it out.

For Bucharest, J. Sariyah provided the lone highlight, belting a solo homer in the fifth inning and driving in two runs. Aguirre struggled, lasting just 3.2 innings while surrendering five earned runs.

With the win, Sheffield climbed back to .500 at 6-6, while Bucharest slipped to the same mark.

Series Summary

The Mountain Hares now sit at 6-6 on the season, right at the .500 mark as they look to build momentum moving forward.

Game 1 – April 16, 2060
Minsk 2, Sheffield 0

Leleu dominated the opener, shutting down Sheffield across 7.1 innings while allowing just two hits. The right-hander struck out six and kept the Hares off balance throughout. Minsk gave him an early lead when Carstea doubled home a run in the third inning, and Ludovice added a solo homer in the sixth. Sheffield had chances but stranded four runners and couldn’t solve Leleu’s command. Herzog took the loss despite a decent outing, giving up two runs in 5.1 innings. Saegert closed it out for his second save as the Bison started the series strong.
Player of the Game: Leleu

Game 2 – April 17, 2060
Minsk 6, Sheffield 4

The Bison offense struck quickly with Cramer’s three-run homer in the first inning, and Ludovice added a solo blast in the fifth to keep Minsk ahead. Sheffield tried to respond, with Aas launching a two-run shot and Rutz collecting two hits and three stolen bases, but defensive miscues hurt the Hares again. Gutierrez battled through 5.1 innings for the win, while Bercovici was charged with six runs (five earned) in the loss. Saegert once more nailed down the ninth for his third save. Despite flashes of fight, Sheffield couldn’t recover from the early deficit.
Player of the Game: Ludovice

Game 3 – April 18, 2060
Minsk 10, Sheffield 8

The finale turned into a slugfest, highlighted by Carstea’s extraordinary three-homer performance for Minsk. Carstea drove in four runs and set a new club record, while Ludovice and Schimpf also went deep. Sheffield responded with homers from Rutz (twice) and Jameel, but a shaky seventh inning from the bullpen proved costly. Zhang was tagged with the loss after surrendering a two-run shot that gave Minsk the lead for good. Tensions flared when Graham and Jameson were ejected during a fifth-inning bench-clearing brawl, adding drama to an already heated game. Saegert secured his fourth save, sealing the sweep.
Player of the Game: Carstea

Minsk swept the three-game series at Kingfisher Park, improving to 9-6. Sheffield fell to 6-9, continuing their frustrating start to the 2060 season.

Sheffield Mountain Hares 5, New Orleans Jazz 3

The Mountain Hares opened the series with a 5-3 win at Kingfisher Park. Sergio Rutz provided the decisive swing, blasting a three-run homer in the fourth off Camar Salagama to break a scoreless tie. Isaac Saville earned his second win of the year, working six innings with four earned runs and five strikeouts. The bullpen held firm as Flores, Burhan, and Barrios combined to secure the final nine outs, with Barrios collecting his second save. Sheffield’s offence scratched out just five hits, but Rutz’s long ball and a two-hit day from Kolya Saetagliev proved enough. Isaac Saville was named Player of the Game.

Sheffield Mountain Hares 3, New Orleans Jazz 2

Sheffield edged New Orleans 3-2 in a tense, low-scoring battle. Down 2-1 in the fifth, Nsen Ngunda came through with a clutch two-run single to flip the game in the Hares’ favour. That was all Yushua bin Saqr needed, as the left-hander turned in a composed 8.0-inning outing, yielding just two runs on five hits while striking out five. Nestor Barrios closed the door for his third save. Despite stranding ten runners, Sheffield’s opportunistic hitting made the difference. New Orleans’ Dong-hyun Kim pitched well in defeat but was undone by Ngunda’s big hit. Player of the Game went to Yushua bin Saqr.

Wednesday, April 21st, 2060
Sheffield Mountain Hares 13, New Orleans Jazz 7

The Mountain Hares capped the sweep with an offensive outburst, routing the Jazz 13-7. Kolya Saetagliev starred, going 5-for-6 with a double, RBI, and three runs scored — his batting average climbing over .400. Aas smashed a seventh-inning homer, while bin Jameel and Miliz each added two RBI. Despite a shaky bullpen stretch, Sheffield’s bats overwhelmed New Orleans with 18 hits. Alan Herzog claimed his second win, striking out five over five innings, though he allowed six runs. New Orleans’ pitching staff had no answer for the relentless Sheffield lineup. The Player of the Game was Kolya Saetagliev, whose five-hit day underlined his hot start to the season.

Sheffield swept the Jazz 3-0, improving their record to 9-9 and pulling back to .500 after a rocky start.

J. Qays added a key two-run double in the fourth inning, while E. Norman contributed two hits and two runs. Paris Black Cats at Sheffield Mountain Hares

Logo by @20_range

Game 1 — April 30, 2060
The Paris Black Cats opened the series with a dramatic 5–2 win in 10 innings at Kingfisher Park. On a cool evening with clear skies and a breeze drifting in from center, both clubs leaned on their pitching. Sheffield starter Alex Sandoval was superb, working 7.1 innings with just two runs allowed and earning Player of the Game honors despite the loss.

Paris finally broke through in the tenth. With two men on, Dushan Randjelovic delivered the deciding blow — a towering three-run homer that pushed the Black Cats ahead for good. Sheffield had tied it late behind an RBI from A. Koehler, but they left nine men on base overall, a missed opportunity that loomed large.

Paris’ bullpen held firm, with Ricky Gonzalez closing the door for his second win of the season. The victory evened Paris’ record at 15–10, while Sheffield slipped to 13–12.

---

Game 2 — May 1, 2060
The Sheffield Mountain Hares bounced back in style, edging out a 3–2 victory in front of a raucous home crowd. The game was a pitcher’s duel on a brisk, partly cloudy evening, with Isaac Saville stepping up as the hero for Sheffield. The left-hander tossed 6.2 strong innings, scattering five hits and striking out seven, earning Player of the Game.

The decisive moment came in the bottom of the ninth. With the score tied 2–2, Espen Aas turned on a fastball from former first-round pick Mario Nestroy, sending it into the stands for a solo homer that walked Sheffield off to victory. Earlier, Rob Graham had also homered, his blast in the seventh pulling Sheffield level after Paris briefly led.

For Paris, M. Koubek pitched valiantly across eight innings but was tagged for both Sheffield homers. The Black Cats dropped to 15–11, while Sheffield drew even at 14–12, the series now tied.

---

Game 3 — May 2, 2060
In the rubber match, the Paris Black Cats claimed a 7–4 victory on a bright spring afternoon with winds gusting across the park. Their offense was powered by the long ball, as the Black Cats slugged three homers to take control.

Veteran left-hander Tycho Kock set the tone, earning Player of the Game after 5.1 no-hit innings in which he walked just one and struck out four. He improved to 3–0 on the year. At the plate, V. Podrizuk struck first with a solo shot in the opening frame, and later Thien Heng added a crucial two-run blast in the eighth to extend the lead. M. Garcia also went deep.

Sheffield staged a late push, highlighted by a two-run homer from J. Morales in the seventh and another from J. Milz in the eighth, but it wasn’t enough. Paris’ bullpen combination of E. Carrado, R. Cavazos, and Ricky Gonzalez closed things down efficiently.

The win lifted Paris to 16–11, while Sheffield fell back to 14–13, dropping a hard-fought home series two games to one.

Sheffield Mountain Hares – April 2060 Performance Review

Logo by @20_range

Now that we've got the first full month of baseball out the way, let's take a detailed look at how the players have been performing.

The Sheffield Mountain Hares’ first month of the season was one of contrasts. Strong individual performances kept the team competitive, but inconsistencies—particularly in the bullpen and the bottom of the batting order—meant April was far from smooth sailing.

Batting

The lineup showed flashes of quality, but relied heavily on a handful of players.

Best Performers:
Tristan Juhl (3B) was a model of consistency, hitting .317 with a .450 OBP and leading the team in plate discipline (14 BB to just 6 K). His .879 OPS set the tone for Sheffield’s offense.
Espen Aas (1B) produced runs in bunches, driving in a team-high 21 with 7 doubles and 4 home runs. His .529 slugging percentage and .891 OPS reflected dangerous power, even if his 32 strikeouts were a concern.
Jesus Morales (RF) was a sparkplug, batting .296, scoring 17 runs, and adding 6 stolen bases. His blend of contact, speed, and extra-base power (.809 OPS) made him a versatile weapon.
Kolya Saetgaliev (LF) capitalised on his chances, hitting .316 with 15 RBIs and a .872 OPS in 76 at-bats.
Abdul-Karim bin Jameel (1B) impressed in limited action, batting .348 with 7 RBIs and a .951 OPS across just 23 at-bats.

Worst Performers:
Rob Graham (2B) endured a miserable April, hitting .176 with a .524 OPS and striking out 26 times in 68 at-bats.
Nsen Ngunda (CF) struggled despite regular playing time, posting a .228 average and .584 OPS across 101 at-bats.
Dan Jula (3B) added little with a .237 average and .592 OPS.
Sergio Rutz (1B) was another regular who faltered, hitting just .217 with 23 strikeouts and a weak .679 OPS.

Overall, Sheffield’s offensive backbone came from Juhl, Aas, Morales, and Saetgaliev, with cameo support from bin Jameel. The rest of the order lagged far behind.

Pitching

The pitching staff mirrored the batting lineup: a handful of reliable arms offset by glaring liabilities.

Best Performers:
Isaac Saville (SP) led the rotation with a 4.23 ERA over 27.2 innings, striking out 25 with excellent control (1.12 WHIP).
Alex Sandoval (SP) delivered steady outings, posting a 4.15 ERA and 21 strikeouts in 26 innings.
Yushua bin Saqr (SP) gave the team innings (27.1) and avoided the long ball, finishing April with a 2–1 record.
Ivan Paez (RP) was the bullpen’s bright spot, carrying a 2.87 ERA across 11 games with strong strikeout-to-walk numbers.
Francisco Flores (RP) chipped in solid relief work over 10.2 innings, keeping games stable when others faltered.

Worst Performers:
Eskinder Ali (SP) had a disastrous pair of starts, posting an 8.31 ERA and allowing opponents to hit .395 against him.
Sarsour Burhan (CL) collapsed in his closer role, giving up 3 homers in 8.2 innings and finishing with a 7.27 ERA.
Mototomi Motoyanagi (RP) was hammered for a 10.80 ERA in 10 innings, walking 10 and proving untrustworthy in any close contest.
Urbano Bercovici (RP) logged heavy innings (24) but carried a damaging 6.75 ERA and .347 opponent average.
Nestor Barrios (CL) may have collected 3 saves, but his 6.39 ERA and .300 opponent average left the ninth inning in constant jeopardy.

The rotation provided serviceable starts, but the bullpen repeatedly surrendered leads. Saville and Paez stood out, while Burhan and Motoyanagi epitomised the inconsistency.

Fielding

Defensively, Sheffield fared better than at the plate or on the mound.
Jon Milz (SS) was outstanding, logging 244 innings with a .988 fielding percentage and a +3.1 zone rating.
Rob Graham (2B), despite his offensive woes, was reliable in the field, recording a +1.4 zone rating and strong range.
• Conversely, Abdul-Karim bin Jameel struggled badly at second base, finishing with a .750 fielding percentage in his brief opportunities.

Conclusion

April was a month of extremes for the Mountain Hares. Tristan Juhl, Espen Aas, and Jesus Morales anchored the batting order, while Isaac Saville and Ivan Paez were the most reliable arms on the mound. Yet the struggles of Rob Graham, Nsen Ngunda, Sarsour Burhan, and Mototomi Motoyanagi highlighted the inconsistency that plagued the team.

If Sheffield can steady its bullpen and coax improvement from underperforming regulars, the foundation laid by its brightest stars could carry them into stronger months ahead.

Logo by @20_range

Game 1

The Sheffield Mountain Hares opened their weekend set with a composed 5–1 win at The Castra. Yusshu bin Saqr was sharp, working six innings of one-run baseball while scattering eight hits and striking out two. Rob Graham provided the early breakthrough with a two-run double in the first, and extra-base hits from Ehsan Aas and Kevin Saetgaliev padded the lead. Rome starter QiZhao Zhang gave up four earned runs in six innings to fall to 1–4, while Brian Redmon exited with an injury sustained on a throw from the outfield.

Player of the Game: Yusshu bin Saqr
Notes: CF Brian Redmon left injured while throwing the ball.

Game 2

Rome responded the next evening, battling to a 4–3 win to level the series. Hamzah Fakhri earned the victory with 6.2 innings of composed pitching, allowing just two earned runs and striking out four. The decisive moment came in the eighth when Teo Yarrah launched a two-run homer off Enrique Flores to turn the game around. Aiden Clawson went 3-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI, while Mukanda Mukanda added two hits. Arno Herzog struck out six but was tagged with the loss for Sheffield, who stranded nine runners despite another home run from Andrés Koehler.

Player of the Game: Hamzah Fakhri
Notes: Wind was blowing strongly out to left (10 mph), aiding power hitters.

Game 3

The finale saw Sheffield’s bats erupt in a 15–3 demolition of the Legion. Nsen Ngunda led the charge with a record-setting performance — two home runs, three RBI, and four runs scored, setting a new Sheffield single-game mark. Jesús Morales added a homer and two singles, while Andrés Koehler contributed two doubles and three RBI. Ehsan Ali allowed three runs in 4.2 innings, and Joaquín Paez took the win with 1.2 scoreless in relief.

Player of the Game: Nsen Ngunda
Notes: Reliever Seth Phillips was injured while pitching. Ngunda’s four runs equals a Sheffield regular-season record.

Series Summary
Sheffield claimed the series 2–1, improving to 18–16 on the season. Nsen Ngunda was the standout performer, going 6-for-9 with two homers, three walks, and six runs scored across the weekend. Rob Graham chipped in with five hits and five RBI, while Yusshu bin Saqr continued to steady the rotation. Rome’s bright spots included Hamzah Fakhri’s strong outing and Teo Yarrah’s clutch homer, but injuries to Brian Redmon and Seth Phillips cast shadows over the series’ end.

Kyiv Terrapins at Sheffield Mountain Hares - Series Recap

Logo by @low

Game 1

The Kyiv Terrapins took the series opener 4–2 at Kingfisher Park, powered by a composed outing from Hank Hacker. The 97th overall pick in the 2057 draft worked eight sturdy innings, allowing just two runs on seven hits while fanning five. Catcher Axel Paparelli provided the spark at the plate, driving in two with a single in the third to put Kyiv ahead for good.

Sheffield’s offence never quite found its rhythm, with Ehsan Aas and Nsen Ngunda both going deep but combining for just three of the team’s eight hits. Andrew Sandoval took the loss after surrendering four runs over 5⅔ innings. Kyiv improved to 20–15, while the Mountain Hares dropped to 18–17.

Game 2

Catcher Ruben Rodriguez was the difference in Game 2, launching a decisive three-run homer off Isaac Saville in the top of the fourth to lead Kyiv to another 4–2 victory. Valery Vonsyatsky delivered five strong innings on the mound, yielding just two runs and striking out three before leaving injured in the fifth.

For Sheffield, Saville was otherwise solid across 5⅓ innings, allowing only one additional run beyond Rodriguez’s blast. The Mountain Hares produced baserunners but couldn’t deliver the timely hit, stranding eight. Kyiv’s bullpen trio of Jake Speed, Kai Wattu, and Pedro Perez held the lead, with Perez picking up the save.

Game 3

The Sheffield Mountain Hares finally answered back, taking a wild 9–8 walk-off win to close the series. Eskinder Ali pitched well enough to keep Sheffield in the game, and Espen Aas sealed the win in dramatic fashion with a solo homer in the bottom of the ninth off left-hander Amelial Muhlyiddin.

Earlier, Saqib Rutz and Ali both homered for Sheffield, while Rob Graham added two hits and an RBI. Kyiv’s Eun Min had a strong night, going 3-for-5 with a homer and three RBIs, and Alvaro Bobbio also went deep, but a shaky bullpen outing cost them the sweep. The crowd of over 45,000 roared as Aas’s drive cleared the right-field wall.

Series Summary
Sheffield avoided the sweep in thrilling fashion, taking the finale to finish the set 1–2. The Mountain Hares now stand at 19–18, while Kyiv improves slightly to 21–16.

Game 3

The San Juan Garitas clinched the series with an 8–2 win behind right-hander Chris Lopez, who pitched 6⅓ strong innings while striking out four and allowing only two runs. The offense was led by veteran DH Youssef Martinez, who launched a three-run homer — his ninth of the season — in the fifth inning. Givi Kalantar added a solo shot to cap San Juan’s scoring.

For Sheffield, Santiago Rutz and Ehsan Ali each doubled, but the team struggled to convert chances, leaving nine men on base. Starter Ali Sandoval lasted only 2⅓ innings, surrendering six runs.

Player of the Game: Chris Lopez (San Juan) – 6.1 IP, 7 H, 2 ER, 4 K
