September 2299 - News and Notes - September 3
Regular Season Finale!
Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski 3 September 2299 BMU: Mystic Pines' Potter Attacked Heading into the BMU playoffs, the Mystic Pines Raybathers got the word today that they will no longer have he services of former 1st-round pick in the CBO Inaugural Draft, pitcher Front Porch Potter. Potter was involved in a random mutant raid just east of Lexington where he was injured by a mutant hound during the attack. While there were other minor injuries during the attack, only Potter was seriously injured. A Brotherhood patrol that had pursued the mutants was able to wipe them out when they started attacking the Raybathers' caravan. Potter had been demoted to the Raybathers after struggling following being traded from the Vault 81 Dwellers to Starlight. He has not been a regular starter since 2297 when the Salem Witch Hats traded him to the Dwellers. He was originally drafted 21st overall by the Sunshine Tidings Chemists but was part of a big trade that ultimately moved Tony Bertha to Sunshine Tidings. He was expected to be the Raybathers' main bullpen option for the playoffs. Gist Sizzles, Easy Town Fizzles, Boys #1 Fans at Slocum's Joe Seaside Stadium witnessed the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys blank the Easy Town Assaultrons, 14-0, behind a superb effort by starter Derek Gist. The Nordhagen Beach left-hander allowed 4 hits in recording the shutout. "Derek was good today but I don't want to focus too much on a single game," Nordhagen Beach manager Craig Robinson said later. "If you're capable of playing at this level, you're capable of having a good game. The real question is if you can learn from that game and repeat it." Gist has made 24 starts this season, posting 12 wins and 8 losses. Opposing clubs are batting .286 against him and he has 114 strikeouts in 144 innings with a 4.44 ERA. The Nordhagen Beach offense was also sizzling, recording 14 runs on 18 hits with all nine players recording at least one hit, including Gist who went 2 for 4 with a walk and three runs scored. Michael Fogcrawler claimed the NCA home run title, hitting his 31st in the 1st inning and finishing 4 for 6 with a double, a home run, a run, and two RBI. Dustin Mart also hit his 26th to finish second on the squad in homers. Warwick Lose, 11-0, to Red Rockets, Deathclaw Chris Deathclaw of the Jamaica Plain Red Rockets was quite impressive as he blanked the Warwick Mirelurks 11-0 at The Homestead. He crafted a 4-hit shutout and chalked up 4 strikeouts with no walks in the contest. In 27 starts this season, Deathclaw has picked up 7 wins while suffering 12 losses. He has pitched 157.1 innings, allowed 207 hits, struck out 100 and posted a 5.66 ERA. Jamaica Plain's Cody Flatt had a positive end to the 2299 season, going 4 for 5 with a home run (33), three runs, and three RBI. Hid Matsumoto (15) and Alan Setter (14) each also added a home run. Goodneighbor Sweeps, Claims #1 Seed Starting pitcher Matt Pageturner pitched well enough to help the Goodneighbor Hancocks beat the Quincy Gunners, 4-3. Pageturner got the win, improving to 14-1 with the Hancocks and 21-3 on the season. He allowed 8 hits and walked 3 over 8 innings. Pageturner allowed 3 runs. The Gunners, now 64-44, have lost 6 straight but they may be happy to not have to face the Hancocks in the first round of the playoffs. Splotch Pollock hit a 2-run triple off Ray Human in the top of the second, which put the Hancocks in front, 2-0. Pollock had 1 single, in addition to the triple. For the game, he went 2 for 4. Pollock said his team "played with determination." Craft Leads Swatters to 12-4 Win Over Knuckle Punchers With center fielder Witcher Craft leading the charge, the Diamond City Swatters defeated the Roxbury Knuckle Punchers, 12-4, at The Great Green Jewel. Craft went 4 for 5 with a triple, a double, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 3 times and driving in 2. The Swatters lead the South Charles Association Railroad League by 16½ games. Oren Gep, the first overall pick in the 2297 draft, contributed to the Diamond City win with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the first. For the game, the first baseman had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 2 runs scored, and 3 RBI. "We can always improve and get better, but we're feeling confident after that win," said Craft. Fort Hagen Tags Sunshine Tidings with 10-5 Defeat Behind a fine performance from David Driftwood, the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud knocked off the Sunshine Tidings Chemists, 10-5. Driftwood hit 2 home runs for the Silver Shroud. Brent Hooker earned the win for Fort Hagen. He lasted 7.1 innings, allowing 5 runs on 5 hits, while striking out 5. With the win, he raised his record to 14-6. The North Charles Association Institute League-leading Silver Shroud are 69-39. Fort Hagen used the bat of Bixton Moore to capture the win. The catcher jacked a 3-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Silver Shroud ahead, 4-0. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a dandy. Moore told a Fort Hagen Gazette reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.

2299 - A look at OOTP Likenesses, Part 1
I have no idea if all of these people still read the dynasty, but I did make a likeness of every person who responded to this dynasty as well as some of my favorite dynasties to read. In some cases, the players have not developed rapidly, but I did try to make it where everyone added "could" make it. This is what I have from my short list, looking page by page:
Sizeman 21 = Peak Sizeman, SP, FHE Called up for the first time in 2299, Sizeman has been a sometimes starter for the Yao Guai, starting 9 of his 15 appearances. He did well in his rookie season, going 4-2 with a 3.10 ERA. Sizeman was a member of the 2296 Rookie Draft, selected in the 2nd round (#42 overall) by The Slog Ghouls before being part of a trade for the Ghouls to obtain RP Wonder Boy Fultz. Tyke = Lannie Tykeson, 1B/SP, Taffington Boathouse (Easy Town) As the likeness of one of my most faithful readers, I am angry at the Easy Town organization for a player who has proven his bat is more than CBO ready. Well, my bad, I just noticed he played the last five games of the season as Easy Town's starting first-bagger. I am considering making him a major trade option in the offseason since he needs to be starting at 1B for a CBO team, even if he cannot pitch at the CBO level. This season, he finished his third straight season as one of the top batters in the BMU, with a career-high .361 average and a 2.6 WAR. PocketsAintFull = Pockets Aintfull, CF, Concord The first-round pick of The Slog in the 2296 Rookie Draft, Aintfull was traded to the Concord Radstags before the trade deadline for the Ghouls' run to the 2299 playoffs. Aintfull made his rookie debut in the CBO in 2299, splitting time since his callup with The Slog and Concord. While he had more starts with the Ghouls, he has been developing and should be a regular starter with the Radstags in 2299. He did OK, batting .283 in 54 appearances with 29 starts, and he should be much better in 2300. Tib = Tib Shorthop, SS, Finch Farm A late addition to the dynasty, Shorthop was drafted in the 1st round of the 2298 Rookie Draft (#8 overall) by the Finch Farm Four Leafs. Not only did he make his rookie debut with the Galleria Robotics Experts, but he was also called up to the Four Leafs for the last 16 games of the season, starting 15. He was not very successful at bat for Finch Farm, but he may already be considered one of the best defensive shortstops in the league. Should he find his bat, he could be a star in the CBO. G-Force = Gee Force, RF, Eastlake (FHE) Another of those guys stuck in the BMU when it doesn't make sense. Force was a 2nd-round pick (#34 overall) by the Fairline Hill Estates (FHE) Yao Guai in 2296. In 2299, he had some injury concerns, but in 59 games heading into the final week, he has a 2.8 WAR, making him tied for 5th in the Massachusetts Association. Force should be a 2300 CBOer.

2299 - A look at OOTP Likenesses, Part 2
NYY #23 = Any Why, CF, Eastlake (FHE)
Drafted in the first round of the 2297 Rookie Draft (#17 overall), Why started to find his stroke in his second season, improving his WAR from -0.6 in his rookie season to 2.5 in his second year. He still has four more games to make a statement, but Why is making waves on his way to a career with the Yao Guai club. OrangeP47 = Oren Gep, 1B, Diamond City The first-overall pick of the 2297 Rookie Draft, Gep's 2299 debut looks to be the probable Rookie of the Year affair for the SCA's Railroad League Champions. The Swatters used Gep's promotion to help build up other areas of the team to ensure its progress in 2299 towards championship goals. Gep leads SCA rookies in multiple categories, but he is also near the top overall, including being #3 in the SCA in RBI (102) and #7 in ISO (.266). ayaghmour 2 = Ayag Mour, C, Jamaica Plain A rookie overshadowed probably only by Diamond City's Gep, Mour has burst onto the scene as a star catcher. Taken in the 2296 Rookie Draft in the 2nd round (#26 overall), Mour has show that he is a capable defensive backstop with a developing contact-focused bat. He completes his first full season in the CBO with a 2.4 WAR, which puts him in position as the top catcher in the SCA. Eugene Church = Ugio Church, SP, Salem The Witch Hats' 1st-overall pick in the 2297 Rookie Draft (#12), Church finally broke into the Bigs in 2299, starting 14 games for the Witch Hats as the #4 starter. He was decent in his debut season, going 5-6 with a 5.36 ERA in 14 starts. Westheim = Racky Westheim, C, Fiddler's Green (Oberland) Drafted in the 1st round (#18 overall) in the 2298 Rookie Draft by the Abernathy Adamantium, Westheim was later traded to the Oberland T-51s along with a player in the Part 3, Tenthree Leader, in a pretty big trade of wealth. A BMU rookie, Westheim proved to be a capable catcher, especially defensively. He'll need to improve his bat to move up to the CBO, but Westheim's 0.4 WAR is better than negative, for sure.

This is a(nother) great feature, StLee! It will be really interesting to see how these guys progress.
Good, also, to see the Boys come through so well against the Assaultrons, with excellent performances both on the mound and with the bat. |

299 - A look at OOTP Likenesses, Part 3
Imperialism32 = Emperry Alizm, RP, Concord
Drafted in the 1st-round of the 2297 Rookie Draft by Vault 81, Alizm was traded to Concord where they promoted him and moved him to the bullpen rather than the starting rotation. It is not sure why the Radstags promoted him because he was still developing and needed more time in the BMU. Unfortunately, in 19 relief appearances with the Stags, he compiled a 1-3 record with one save and an 8.44 ERA. Bub13 = Bubb Islander, 2B, Lexington A 7th-round pick by Vault 81 in the 2296 Inaugural Draft, Islander has been a staple of consistency in his CBO career, most notably as a base stealer. He is the CBO's all-time leader with 116, including 79 since the merger. The Dwellers traded him for prospects to make room for their emerging young player, Harry Byrd, a former 1st-round pick by the Oberland T-51s in the 2297 Rookie Draft. Islander also has a .342 career batting average, something Vault 81 will miss in the playoffs. tenthreeleader = Tenthree Leader Drafted as a two-way player in the 2296 rookie draft by Quincy (#15 overall), Leader was seldom used as a pitcher after his rookie season and got converted to a catcher full time this season with Oberland. The T-51s received Leader in a trade with Abernathy in a large flip of players and prospects. In his first full season as a regular starter (103 of Oberland's 108 games), Leader was not exactly setting the world on fire with a .220 average, 4 home runs, and 32 RBI. He is considered a good defensive catcher, and he can be a star if his bat ever catches up to his defense. DD Martin = Deedee Martinson, SP, Cabot House (Atom) A second-round pick by the Atom Cats in the 2298 Rookie Draft (#26 overall), Martinson burst onto the BMU scene, starting 17 of his 19 appearances for the Cabot House Rayguns. He is 11-4 with a 2.71 ERA, tied for the BMU lead in wins, with one more chance to pitch tomorrow. jaa36 = Jaa Thirtysix, SP, Union Hope (Lexington) A third-round pick by Lexington (#57 overall) in the 2298 Rookie Draft, Thirtysix struggled with the worst team in baseball. He went 0-11 with a 9.94 ERA, so he could not totally blame his losses on his teammates. A talented pitcher, he needs his potential and current production to catch up, which a more stringent offseason program should be able to provide. With Nate Howard's declaration that Lexington needs more talent on the squad, it should help Thirtysix in the 2300 campaign.

The Boys did indeed use that perfect game to stay hot, getting the wins they needed to clinch the #1 seed. Now they need to do something with that seed, unlike last season!

These names, though this time there's some extra-intent behind them
![]() At least it makes sense in the Fallout Universe. I've recently noticed on a memorial near me there's some names, that in context, I can't help but snicker if you're familiar with the concept of "nominative determinism", but it's probably inappropriate to share. |

September 2299 - News and Notes - September 4, Part 1
Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski 4 September 2299 CBO News: Regular Season ends The dust has cleared from the regular season pennant chase and the clubs that survived are getting ready to do battle in the 2299 Commonwealth Baseball Organization playoffs. Only the strong survive to play for the Sole Survivor Series championship. It's the playoffs -- a very special time to baseball fans everywhere -- and they start in just a few days. CBO News: Playoffs Begin The regular season has closed and now the "real" season begins. The playoffs in Commonwealth Baseball Organization start today and all the clubs that made it into the Association Semifinals are hungry to claim the ultimate prize: the champion's mantle -- the Sole Survivor Series title. The playoffs begin tomorrow and Wednesday with these matchups: #4 The Slog Ghouls versus #1 Nordhagen Beach Party Boys, #3 Starlight Lady Killers versus #2 Fort Hagen Silver Shroud, #4 Vault 81 Dwellers versus #1 Goodneighbor Hancocks and #3 Quincy Gunners versus #2 Diamond City Swatters. BNN Stats: Single-Season Records Who holds the single season record in the Commonwealth Baseball Organization for at bats? Bubb Islander, V81, 504, 2298 Noah Arch, FHE, 492, 2298 Tom Mastodon, CC, 490, 2298 Steve Gunkill, QUIN, 490, 2299 Jim Waples, ABE, 488, 2298 Jim Tiller Wins 2299 NCA Batting Title At an age where many of his peers are still trying to establish themselves in Commonwealth Baseball Organization, Jim Tiller of the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud stepped up to win a North Charles Association batting title, with a .374 mark. On the season, he compiled 170 hits, 35 doubles, 4 triples and 24 home runs. In 108 games Tiller totaled 88 RBIs and scored 82 runs. Jumper Hayes Claims 2299 SCA Batting Title Many talented Commonwealth Baseball Organization players can go their entire careers and never even get a sniff of a batting title. Jumper Hayes has already captured one at age 19. The Goodneighbor second baseman batted .371 to capture the 2299 South Charles Association batting championship. He collected 163 hits, 34 doubles, 7 triples and 11 home runs for the year. In 108 games Hayes totaled 69 RBIs and scored 76 runs. Nordhagen Beach's Fogcrawler the NCA HR Champion For the second-straight season, Nordhagen Beach's Michael Fogcrawler is the NCA's home run champion, blasting an association-best 31 homers to lead his team. On the season, Fogcrawler had 121 hits, 24 doubles, 3 triples, 31 home runs, 84 RBI, and 83 runs. Assman is the Home Run King of the SCA Building off his MVP campaign in 2298, Goodneighbor's Bryan Assman looks to be on a repeating path. This time, he claimed one more award: the home run king of the South Charles Association. In 108 games in 2299, Assman blasted 39 home runs. He batted .365 on the season with 148 hits, 33 doubles, 1 triple, 125 RBI, 105 runs, and he also walked an SCA-best 125 times to help him lead the league in OBP (.467), SLG (.741), OPS (1.208), and WAR (6.7). I am not always careful with the names I choose, but there usually is some personal, popular, historical, or lore-friendly reasoning behind the names I give to people of the dynasty.

They have been really good all season and should be considered the favorite to win it all yet again. I would like a new champion, but they are a tough out with great pitching. Their minor league team is likely to win their league, too, so they have depth of talent. This is the team I fear may be an early dynasty.

2299 - BMU - Week 21 Review
Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski 4 September 2299 Commonwealth Association Picks Top Performer At the age of 28, John Burp might have some potential he hasn't realized yet -- if his success at the plate last week is any indication. The Bunker Hill first baseman put up some exceptional numbers the past seven days with a .400 batting average. For his efforts Burp collected the Commonwealth Association Player of the Week Award. He racked up 4 hits in 10 at-bats, 4 home runs and 6 RBIs last week in 3 games. This year Burp has socked 56 hits in 158 at-bats for a .354 average with 15 home runs. He is getting on base at a .441 pace and his totals also include 46 RBIs and 31 runs scored. Dealer Caps Great Week Matt Dealer has the tools to stick in this league for many years. The 21-year-old left fielder of the Fiddler's Green T-60s had a hot bat in the Massachusetts Association over the past seven days and won the Player of the Week honors. Dealer batted .533 with 8 hits in 15 at-bats, no home runs and 5 RBIs. Currently Dealer is batting .338 with 26 hits and 2 home runs. He has knocked in 15 runs and scored 9 times. 2299 - CBO Playoffs - SCA: Goodneighbor vs Vault 81
#1 Goodneighbor Hancocks (74-34) vs #4 Vault 81 Dwellers (57-51)
Season Series: Goodneighbor 5, Vault 81 3 April 12-13 @Good: Good 8-5, Good 8-3 June 6-7 @V81: V81 5-4, Good 3-0 August 8-9 @Good: V81 3-2, V81 6-5 August 15-16 @V81: Good 6-4, Good 12-3 Goodneighbor Home Page Vault 81 Home Page Game 1 Matchup Analysis They may not be as dominant as they were in 2298, but do not let the Goodneighbor Hancocks fool you: they are the best team in the CBO. Sporting a run differential of +239, the Hancocks did not just beat teams but annihilated them in most of their games. Offensively, few teams have a 1-8 lineup that comes anywhere close to what the Hancocks have. Minus stolen bases where they finished 8th in the SCA (44), Goodneighbor was #1 in every other offensive category. With reigning CBO MVP and probable 2299 winner, 1B Bryan Assman (.365/39/125), in the middle of the lineup, this is a team that can score a lot of runs when it gets runners on base. Five players finished with an above .300 batting average, with 2B Jumper Hayes (.371/11/69) taking the batting title. Good Don Duck (.363/12/51), last year's Playoffs MVP winner, also had a stellar year, as did CF John Rose (.296/14/65), LF Zachary Utsinger (.332/17/75), SS Burtie Cuttooth (.322/20/85), and 3B Jason Juras (.264/28/69). On the mound, the Hancocks can be even more dangerous, especially with the midseason acquisition of SP Matt Pageturner (21-3, 3.80). Their Starters ERA was 2nd in the SCA (3.76), but Pageturner, Quincy Eloquent (17-7, 3.86), and John Oldsink (15-8, 3.40) certainly are capable of holding the other team to 3 or 4 runs per game, plenty enough for the offense. The bullpen was #1 (2.59) with two closer-quality relievers in Bus Paula (31 saves, 3.26) and Tiny Greene (20 saves, 1.74). Vault 81 benefitted from the 2299 collapse of the Oberland T-51s who finished surprisingly below .500. The Dwellers got average production, which was enough to make them the fourth-best team in an association that only had four teams above .500. The truth is that the Dwellers must play over their heads to get three wins against Goodneighbor, sporting the 6th-best runs scored amount (575) and 7th-best runs allowed (549). On offense, the loss of Bubb Islander will hurt, but former MVP RF Deer Quickwalker (.336/24/93) and impressive second-year player CF Aesed Hayjen (.318/15/64) are certainly capable of getting hot. Three other players had 20+ home runs for the SCA's second-best power team: SS Knud Bather (.264/20/73), 1B Jason Robinson (.252/27/78), and 3B Mark Dombrowski (.260/21/73). The pitching needs to be much better, with ace Edwin Mass (12-7, 4.38) giving the team its best shot to win a couple in the series. Curt Redcoats (9-12, 4.90) and Josh Mustang (8-10, 5.00) need to be outstanding to win. The bullpen relies on CL Dave Caveman (25 saves, 3.97) who is a low-rated reliever in the league. Prediction Goodneighbor is on a mission to repeat and will not let the Dwellers get in their way, taking this one 3-0.
