Cards news: May 7 --- After 13-22 start, I have fired myself. Franchise discontinued for now
The champions of the National League Central Division a year ago, the St. Louis Cardinals have stumbled out of the gate to a 13-22 start (10.5 games behind first place Milwaukee) leading to the firing of Michael Renkes as the team's general manager and manager.
After boasting a starting rotation which ranked first in the NL last season and a bullpen which sat second, this season has been a nightmare. Because of that. I brought the bulk of the pitching staff back intact. Turns out that was a mistake. This season, the St. Louis starting rotation (6.89 ERA) ranks 15th in the National League while the bullpen (3.56) sits ninth. The offense has not been much better with almost every player regressing from their performance from a year ago. TBH, I don't know if this is the end of the franchise or just a break. I have tried to make moves to right the ship. The offense has shown glimpses of being competitive. But the pitchers can't pitch without numerous walk and hit batters, setting the stage for way too many big innings. It has been a struggle to get starters through five innings. Which has chewed up the bullpen. There have been very few games where I didn't come out of the first inning facing a deficit. I have enough stuff going on in my life to add playing out a 70-92 season which is going to take two months. (I hate letting the computer control the game. If I lose, I want it to be because of my decisions). I don't blame the game. The mistakes were mine. Love OOTP. Been playing for I don't know how long. Maybe 15 years. Just need a break. So if I come back. I come back. If not, it was fun, as alwas. Last edited by rink23; 08-31-2025 at 06:19 AM. |
