Matty Alou was a "rental" star for the 1972 A's arriving from the Cardinals August 27, 1972 and being traded to the Yankees November 24, 1972. In his short stay with the A's, he did help them to capture the World Series victory in 1972 subbing for the injured Reggie Jackson.

Like Matty, Felipe & Jesus Alou also played for the A's. Felipe played in 1970-71 for Oakland while Jesus played in Oakland in 1973-74. Thus the A's had an Alou on the roster from 1970-74 but never did any of the three brothers play together with Oakland.

Nice photos of two Negro League veteran pitchers who reached the majors: Pat Scantlebury and Joe Black. Scantlebury, despite the Non-Latino sounding name was Panamanian. Black was one of the very first Black major league pitchers after the racial barrier fell.

Another of the early stars to integrate the major leagues was Bob Boyd.

Here he is with the Orioles in 1957 & 1960, the A's in early 1961, and two with the Braves in late 1961.
