And now Game 7 is ace vs ace in Mike Cartrette and Tommy Beach. Pitching is very much going to determine this series. Whichever is more solid will be the winner.

2299 - CBO Playoffs - NCA: Nordhagen Beach vs Fort Hagen
Association Championships - Game 7
Story and Box Score Cartrette Wins Battle, Leads Shroud to the Series The joy and relief on the faces of the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud players was obvious as they celebrated their Association Championships win over the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys. "In a series like this, the smallest thing can make the difference in how it turns out," said Fort Hagen second baseman Mark Miller, shortly after the 5-3 win that clinched the series 4-3. "We're happy we did what it takes to get it done." The team is now off to the Sole Survivor Series. Mike Cartrette earned Game MVP honors, pitching the Silver Shroud to victory. In 6.0 innings, he allowed two earned runs on five hits with a walk and four strikeouts. Radscorpion Johnson and Curtis Thriceshot pitched the last three innings in relief. Tommy Beach suffered the loss, allowing five earned runs on six hits with two walks and three strikeouts in 4.0 innings. Three Nordhagen relievers pitched five scoreless innings to finish the game. Fort Hagen took a 2-0 lead in the top of the 3rd. After Micah Morals walked and moved to second on a Cartrette sacrifice bunt, Well Done Dungan doubled him in. With two outs, Jim Tiller then singled in Dungan. Bixton Moore hit a solo home run in the 4th and Andrew Nuka added a two-run homer in the 5th for a 5-0 lead. Dungan was 2 for 5 with a double, two runs scored, and an RBI to lead the Shroud offense. The Party Boys scored their first runs in the 6th. Dirty Dog Sapienza led off the inning with a pinch-hit triple. Brian Masterson hit an RBI groundout, and Jonathan Angelou added a two-out solo home run to cut the lead to 5-2. Nordhagen Beach had a chance in the bottom of the 9th off struggling closer Thriceshot. With one out, Dustin Mart doubled. With two outs, Ryan Combs hit an RBI double to make it 5-3. Mike Swift then singled to put the tying run on. However, Clux Oldstreet then hit a grounder to shortstop, killing the rally and giving Thriceshot his first save of the postseason. Miller won series MVP honors on the strength of his .444 batting average during the series. He also had a .500 on-base percentage and 0 home runs, drove in 2 RBI and scored 4 runs. The Fort Hagen Silver Shroud will play against the Diamond City Swatters in the next round. Diamond City won their series against the Goodneighbor Hancocks 4 games to 2. The Sole Survivor Series schedule will begin on Sunday, September 24. Game MVP Series MVP Playoff Tree

Wow, that was some series and you have to say the Shroud deserved the win, coming back as they did and winning what was a very tight deciding game. I'm happy enough that the Boys put up a much better post-season performance than last year, but I'm still left thinking this was a chance missed. We've mentioned before the lack of prospects coming through, so I just hope this wasn't their only chance for a good few years.
Really hope it's a great series between the Shroud and the Swatters. |

Let's hope! There is no greater disappointment of hard-fought championship series followed by a final series sweep or blowout (like last season's Sole Survivor Series that was not even competitive).
By the way, I don't remember if I had a story before or not, but the Championship Series were 7-game series this season as opposed to 5-game series of the semifinals and misnamed League Championships.

2299 - CBO Playoffs - Sole Survivor Series: Diamond City vs Fort Hagen
Banner
Sole Survivor Series History I: The Slog Ghouls (BL) 4, Finch Farm Four Leafs (BL) 1 II: Oberland T-51s (RL) 4, Nordhagen Beach Party Boys (BL) 2 III: Goodneighbor Hancocks (ML) 4, Easy Town Assaultrons (BL) 0 Diamond City Team Photo Fort Hagen Team Photo Game 1 Matchups Analysis Well folks, ghouls, pacifist mutants, and synths, Sole Survivor Series IV is set to begin! For the first time in Sole Survivor Series history, a team from the Brotherhood League will not lose the series. This season, two veterans to the playoffs finally get their shot at a title, when the Diamond City Swatters of the Railroad League take on the champions of the Institute League, the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud in a battle of #2-seeds. Both of these teams are deeply talented and pulled off an upset in their Association Championship to get here. The Shroud went the distance in both of their series, rallying back in the association semifinals against Starlight to win the series 3-2. Then, they downed Nordhagen Beach, coming back from another 2-0 deficit to eventually take the series, 4-3. Diamond City almost struggled as much on its way to the SSS, winning a nail-biter against Quincy, 3-2, and then downing the defending champions, Goodneighbor, 4-2. Both teams finished one game back of the #1 seed, so they are both worthy of being here. The Swatters look to be the stronger team of the two, finishing one game back of Goodneighbor for the #1 seed in the South Charles Association. Diamond City led the CBO Power Rankings for most of the season, though they did fade a little towards the end. Still, there is a lot to like about this team. Pitching is the starting place of the team's success. With the triple threat of X10-44 Mannson (12-6, 3.50), Tim Fusion (11-5, 2.84), and Tyler Powers (15-4, 3.53), the Swatters are a tough team to score on, finishing second in the SCA in runs allowed (439) and first in Starters ERA (3.69). They were also second in the SCA in Bullpen ERA (3.36) and first in Strikeouts (998). The major factor in the bullpen is the CBO's best closer, Josh Samm (37 SV, 1.12). On offense, Diamond City has a formidable lineup, but they were surprisingly below a few teams in offensive production, finishing 5th in runs scored (591), 4th in Batting Average (.283), and 4th in Home Runs (141). Despite a few struggles, especially at the catcher position, the team still looks to be tough from 1-7 in the lineup. RF Wayne Lacy (.307/27/85) has been the team star, but rookie 1B Oren Gep (.297/25/102) looks like he has taken over the starring role. 3B Allen Bishop (.363/16/72), SS Wally Warwick (.337/15/71), and LF Tyler Ross (.307/23/67) all hit for average and power. While Diamond City has been known for its pitching, the Silver Shroud were even better on the mound in 2299, at least for their starters. Fort Hagen had a CBO-best 3.39 Starters ERA but allowed the 3rd most runs (427) in the North Charles Association. That was mostly due to the bullpen being suspect, finishing 8th in the NCA in ERA (4.60). While the Swatters' Samm is the best closer, the Shroud's Curtis Thriceshot (32 SV, 3.12) was shaky despite leading the NCA in saves. He also struggled mightily in the playoffs, only picking up one of his four saves attempts. If the Silver Shroud want to win this series, then, they need their three-headed starters serpent to go deep in games: Mike Cartrette (15-4, 2.51), Derek Green (15-5, 3.25), and Brent Hooker (14-6, 3.80). Fort Hagen was also a little more successful in their association when it came to batting. They were 3rd in Runs Scored (574) with the best Batting Average (.293). That was mostly because they were only 5th in Home Runs (110), depending mostly on the bombs from their offensive power hitters: LF Andrew Nuka (.326/26/101), 1B Jim Tiller (.374/24/88), and RF David Driftwood (.234/25/57). Leadoff man, SS Well Done Dungan (.357/1/53, 32 SB) is good at getting on base and moving into scoring position. CF Ben Pawlak (.295/9/61) and 2B Mark Miller (.372/2/52) also offer good hitting though not a lot of pop in their swatters. Fun fact: This series will feature seven former 1st-round draft picks: Fort Hagen's Ben Pawlak, Matt Hope, Brent Hooker, and Organizae Brown, and Diamond City's Witcher Craft, Josh Samm, and Oren Gep. The Shroud's Hooker was the 2nd overall pick in the 2296 Inaugural Draft and Pawlak was the 3rd overall pick in the 2296 Rookie Draft, while the Swatters' Gep was the 1st overall pick in the 2297 Rookie Draft. Prediction This one is tough, and we feel and hope it goes the distance. With that said, Diamond City has appeared to be the strongest team in the CBO since the first day of the season. We're going to pick the Swatters to win this one in The Great Green Jewel over the Silver Shroud by a count of 4 games to 3.

September 2299 - News and Notes - September 24
Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski 24 September 2299 Galleria's Rosetta on Quest to North Pole Galleria Robotics Experts rookie catcher Blitzen Rosetta is on a quest to find his missing siblings. With his two remaining siblings, Cupid and Dancer Rosetta, the three will journey to find where the others may be. One book Rosetta was introduced to may have given him insight. "My parents have been dead for 10 years not," Blitzen Rosetta said, "but I was taking a class to help me with my reading and I read one about a guy named Rudolph. That was my one of my brother's names. And it had my name, and my brother and sister, so I think I had more brothers and sisters and they all must be at a place called the North Pole." Asked how he would find the place, Rosetta said that they would carry a compass and just keep walking north until they found a giant red and white pole he called a "candy cane." "It's made of candy and that's all you have to eat at the North Pole." Rosetta said. "It will be amazing." He did not give a timeline on when he expects to return, but he said he thought it would take "a week" to get there. After being taken by Finch Farm in the 5th round of the 2298 Rookie Draft, Rosetta appeared in 15 games, starting 8. He his .094 on the season, hitting three doubles in 32 at bats with two runs and an RBI.

I hope the GRE are counting too much on having Rosetta in the line-up next season!!
As for the SSS, it's shaping up to be a classic and it would be great to see the Series go the distance for the first time [I think!]. The Shroud have certainly shown they have character and that, plus their starting rotation makes me feel they could just have the edge. Despite the Boys not being there, I'm really looking forward to this! And if it turns out that there IS a Santa Claus, after all, that would be the icing on the cake!! |

He is not likely to make it to the CBO, either. He has low "leader, adaptability, work ethic, intelligence." This dude somehow survived in the Wasteland without any qualities that would show he can survive. Also, according to his scouting report, "Coaches have been strangely tight-lipped about his work ethic." To me, it sounds like this dude may not even make it off the front porch in his quest to find his other siblings. About the SSS, you may be right. Cartrette may legitimately be the best pitcher in the CBO as of right now, better than Sheng Kawolski and Tim Fusion. Strangely, none are listed as their staff aces. Come on, AI! If I had more time, I would make this a Boston Spectacular of Unstoppables characters making a short film for the Series. However, since that will slow me down, I would prefer to move through at least one game per real-life day.

2299 - CBO Playoffs - Sole Survivor Series: Diamond City vs Fort Hagen
Sole Survivor Series - Game 1
Story and Box Score Hooker Bangs Swatters for Game 1 Win The Fort Hagen Silver Shroud powered past the hometown Diamond City Swatters, 3-2, in the opener of the Sole Survivor Series at The Great Green Jewel today. Fort Hagen starting pitcher Brent Hooker threw 6 innings of 4-hit ball, to lead the charge. The Silver Shroud now lead the series 1-0. Hooker left the game after six innings leading 3-2, but both runs were unearned. Down 3-0 in the 6th, the Swatters' Witcher Craft hit a one-out single. Allen Bishop then reached on a fielder's choice before Oren Gep reached on a two-out error. Wally Warwick then hit a two-RBI double to make the score 3-2. Fort Hagen scored first in the top of the 1st. Mark Miller led off the game against X10-44 Mannson with a single, stole second, and then advanced to third on David Driftwood's groundout. Jim Tiller then hit into an RBI groundout for the game's first score. In the 2nd, the Shroud scored again. Ben Pawlak singled. Later, with two outs and Micah Morals on due to a fielder's choice, Morals stole second and then scored on Bixton Moore's RBI single. The Silver Shroud scored their final run in the 3rd. With one out, Driftwood singled and advanced to third on Tiller's single. With two outs, Pawlak had a run-scoring double to put the Silver Shroud on top, 3-0. For the game, Pawlak had 1 double and 1 single in 4 at-bats. He and Moore were the only two players with multiple hits. "I'm just happy to help the team win," Pawlak told Diamond City Radio. The next game is set to be played tomorrow at The Great Green Jewel. Slated to start are Derek Green for Fort Hagen and Tyler Powers for Diamond City. Game MVP

September 2299 - News and Notes - September 25
Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski 25 September 2299 BNN Reports Ousting of Sunshine Tidings Manager Burmaster There was not a dry eye in the Sunshine Tidings Chemists clubhouse today as word spread of Cozy Burmaster's dismissal as the team's manager. Despite the team's recent woes, Burmaster was widely respected. "He was a real player's manager, a real leader and mentor to so many of the guys on this club," said one player. Another player had the same sentiment. "Man, this ain't right. I know baseball is a business, but Cozy deserved better." When cornered by reporters looking for a statement, Chemists owner Talia McGovern only said, "I really shouldn't talk to you. Because I'm busy. And all." There were reports that McGovern was upset that the team has not improved from the beginning. It has never finished above .500 and is one of seven teams never to make the postseason. McGovern is probably looking for a stronger personality in the next Sunshine Tidings manager.

September 2296 - News and Notes - Sept 26
Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski 26 September 2299 Fort Hagen's Green Given Stimpack, Still Will Rest Shoulder Fort Hagen pitcher Derek Green was injured in his start yesterday in what the team is calling "shoulder inflammation." Team trainer David Rousseau calls the injury a "repetitive aggravation of the joint rather than a true injury." Because of the status of Green, the stimpack administered will offer relief to the current pain, but he is likely to aggravate the injury again should he pitch more in the Sole Survivor Series. Therefore, the Silver Shroud have decided to shut him down for the season. "We're sorry to lose D-G," Fort Hagen manager Mark Andersen said, "but we know we also have a hell of a pitcher in Matt Hope and know he can get the job done if we need him in Game 5." Hope replaced Green in the game yesterday after Green started feeling discomfort in his throwing shoulder. An examination revealed that shoulder issues had flared up and each throw was causing more distress in the joints where the arm bone rubs against the shoulder bone. Because Hope was not fully warmed up to replace Green, he pitched only 55 pitches in relief, but he held Diamond City scoreless in 3.1 innings in Game 2 of the Sole Survivor Series. The Shroud went on to win the game, 5-2, and take a 2-0 series lead. The teams resume the series tomorrow. CBO Teams Begin BMU Purge in Preparation for "Strong Draft Class" Several CBO teams began purging their BMU rosters in anticipation of what BNN has called "a strong draft class." Since the expansion of the Boston Youth Development League to include not only the original league, but an expanded tournament style of area leagues in Cape Cod, Bradberton, and a few other areas, the competition has increased. "We had what I would call a 'dead' period," CBO Commissioner Nate Howard said. "We had our Inaugural Draft in 2296 where we invited everyone 16 and above. In time, we decided to allow players over 18 into our league instead. That meant many of our youth teams lost a lot of talent, and we didn't have guys who would have originally been drafted entering our draft. Now that we changed the system to over 18 only, we have some talent that has been developing even more. I expect that talent to show this year." A few of the expected top picks include pitchers College Luckyman, Bry McBourbon, and Nuke Laloosh; catchers Jimjames LaFleur and Soup Roper; infielders Jackie Shepherd, Rabbit Forrest, and Diamond City mayor Robert MacCready's son, Duncan MacReady; and outfielders Delmarva Illeracula, Hurr Lee Reyes, and Rick Pickle. September 2299 - News and Notes - September 27
Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski 27 September 2299 Sunshine Tidings Trades Gee for Dark's Steelbrother, Goonie The rumor has been out there for a while now and today it was made official. The Sunshine Tidings Chemists have sent 25-year-old RHP Warren Gee to the Dark Bloodworms for 22-year-old 1B Trevor Steelbrother and 20-year-old LHP Charlie Goonie. Gee has taken the mound for 26 relief appearances this season, nailing down no saves while notching a 0-0 record with a 3.00 ERA. The Dark reliever has limited opposing batters to a .261 batting average. Goonie was a 5th-round draft pick by the Salem Witch Hats in the 2298 Rookie Draft. However, he was released before the season, moving on to the Bloodworms for the 2299 season where he remained on the reserve roster for the season. Steelbrother was an undrafted free agent following the 2296 Rookie Draft where he was picked up by the Chemists. After being released previous to the 2299 season, he signed a one-year deal with Dark. In 77 games with 63 starts at 1B, Steelbrother batted .177 with 12 doubles, three home runs, 21 runs, and 25 RBI.

2299 - CBO Playoffs - Sole Survivor Series: Diamond City vs Fort Hagen
Sole Survivor Series - Game 3
Story and Box Score Diamond City Breaks Through for First Win in SSS The Diamond City Swatters have closed some of the gap between themselves and the series-leading Fort Hagen Silver Shroud, winning 4-1 at Hubris Comics Park today. Swatters right-hander Tyler Powers threw 7 innings of 3-hit ball. The win cuts the deficit facing the Swatters to 2-1 in the best-of-7 Sole Survivor Series. Powers was effective for Diamond City, seldom allowing the Silver Shroud to square up a pitch. The right-hander tossed 92 pitches over 7.1 innings. He limited Fort Hagen to just 1 run on 3 hits. "We cashed in when we had the chance," said Diamond City manager Bucky Bachelor. Fort Hagen held a 1-0 lead heading into the top of the 5th thanks to Jim Tiller's 1st-inning solo blast. In the 5th, Mike Cartrette (1-1) ran into trouble which cost the Shroud the game. Danny Suarez walked to start the inning and then advanced on a ground out. With two outs, Cartrette plunked Witcher Craft, and then Mike Grognak hit a two-RBI double for a 2-1 Diamond City lead. Oren Gep then tripled but came up lame, leading to Crater Landlubber coming in to pinch run. Wally Warwick then doubled to score Landlubber for the 4-1 lead, the same as the final. The Swatters also lost Allen Bishop to a base-running injury, leaving both in doubt pending the effectiveness of stimpack treatment. Five of the Swatters' seven hits were for extra bases. Josh Samm pitched the final 1.2 innings to pick up his 4th save of the postseason. The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Hubris Comics Park. Slated to start are X10-44 Mannson for the Diamond City Swatters and Brent Hooker for the the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud. Game MVP

Forgot a story. Ready to sim some more later today.
Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kawolski 28 September 2299 Gep, Bishop Cleared to Play with Minor Injuries Diamond City 3B Allen Bishop and 1B Oren Gep were both injured in yesterday's game while running the bases. Both were also cleared to play with minor injuries. The Swatters medical staff administered a stimpack to each to ensure they can be a full go. Bishop left the game after experiencing hamstring tightness while running the bases, while pulled an abdominal muscle while sliding into third base on a triple. He also left the game, but could play today with or without the stimpack. Diamond City manager Bucky Bachelor called the stimpacks used "cautionary." 2299 - CBO Playoffs - Sole Survivor Series: Diamond City vs Fort Hagen
Sole Survivor Series - Game 4
Story and Box Score Swatters Even With Shroud, Win in 10 Handed an opportunity to take a commanding lead in the Sole Survivor Series, the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud could not close the deal. Game 4 went into extra frames and the Diamond City Swatters emerged victorious, taking a 10-inning, 7-5 win. Diamond City starting pitcher X10-44 Mannson threw 7 innings of 4-hit ball in the win at Hubris Comics Park today to drag the Swatters back to parity. The clubs are now tied 2-2 in the best-of-7 series. Diamond City used the timely hitting of Jim Synthseeker to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a 2-run single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Swatters on top, 7-5. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer. "You work hard, day in and day out, hoping to give the fans something to cheer about. Today was a good day," Mannson told the Diamond City News. Andrew Nuka gave the Shroud an early 4-0 lead when he hit a grand slam home run in the bottom of the 3rd. However, Diamond City stormed back with two runs in each of the next two innings to tie the game, 4-4, heading into the bottom of the 8th. Then Fort Hagen scored, followed by a run by the Swatters in the top of the 9th. "I blew it man," Silver Shroud reliever Matt Demented said. "I was given the chance to close thisd one out, but I had to give up runs in the 9th and 10th. I'm disappointed in myself more than my coaches can be." Game 5 is set to be played tomorrow. Slated to start are Tim Fusion for the Diamond City Swatters and Matt Hope for the the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud. Game MVP - BNN Pick Game MVP - Publick Occurences Pick
