The St. Louis Cardinals have acquired starting pitcher Sean Hermann from the New York Yankees in exchange for outfielder Jordan Walker and minor-league pitcher Luis Sierra.
The Cardinals rotation has been a mess this season, and the team hopes the 26-year-old Herrman can provide a solid role in the top three.
A 14th-round draft pick in 2021, Hermann broke into the majors in 2028.
He went 11-7 with a 3.57 ERA in 31 starts that season.
This year, he has gone 7-4 in 15 starts with a 2.89 ERA.
Trading Walker was tough, once the top prospect in MLB he never has come close to his potential.
His best season came in 2027, when he hit .276 with 12 home runs, 75 RBIs and a .795 OPS.
But a spring training injury limited him to 10 games in 2028.
This season has been a wash hitting just .211 with six home runs, 26 RBIs and a .643 OPS in 65 games.
With free agency looming in the offseason, it was time to cut ties and give someone else a chance.
Sierra is an 18-year-old right-handed reliever a long way from seeing if he will ever make an impact in the major leagues.
