Remember when there was a storyline where a guy got hurt by slipping on puppy pee? I’m all for weird injuries but what was that even based off of, I guess outside of one of the devs housetraining a new pupper?

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- Mets closer Edwin Díaz suffered a complete patellar tendon tear in his right knee during Puerto Rico's celebration after defeating the Dominican Republic on Wednesday night to advance to the quarterfinals of the World Baseball Classic. Díaz underwent surgery to repair the tendon on Thursday afternoon in Florida, with the procedure performed by Dr. David W. Altchek.

The timeline for such an injury is around eight months, according to general manager Billy Eppler. That would mean Díaz, who signed a five-year, $102 million contract with the Mets this offseason, would likely miss the entirety of the 2023 season.
Ugh, I just can't...

On the other paw, at least we're spared any of that Timmy Trumpet crap this year.

The little bit of research that I did on patellar tendon tears is that they aren’t good news for baseball players. Garrett Richards had one, missed the better part of 2 years, and has never been the same pitcher since. Dexter Fowler isn’t a pitcher but his career was ruined by the injury.

Well, for all we know, Robertson will do the job and this only means that Uncle Stevie blew $20 million on Edwin this year.

He can afford it.

Nimmo down with knee, ankle sprains.

Yes, sprains. Everything's more with the Mets: the payroll, and the agony.

And the old guys in the rotation have yet to inevitably keel over.

So it's off to the Hospital for Special Surgery wherein Diaz' good leg is grafted onto Nimmo!

It's not a Mets opening day unless there's at least $50M in salary on the Differentlyabled List!

I do TBF feel bad about Edwin Diaz for once a Mariner always a Mariner reasons. I was hoping the M's would like sign Miggy to a 10 year contract this offseason and then immediately trade him to the Mets for Diaz...

Did you miss the part where Jose "One Good Year is Good Enough for Uncle Stevie!" Quintana is out until July with the lesion on his rib? Or are you just trying to repress?

I grant you, one lesion is nothing compared to the legions of injuries that will doubtless follow. But the journey of a thousand sighs begins with but a single mis-step, or whatever Lao-Tzu wrote.

Quintana didn't really track with me. I think the first time I realized he was a Met was when they reported him out for three months.

I glanced quickly at this headline and said to myself "Well, what the heck was Buck doing in Greece during spring training, anyway?" Then I made a mental note of having my reading glasses checked.

To be fair, that is a ghastly font.

Also, I read the same, because somebody posted it in the Mets thread. Brains are weird. I wonder how we made it to space in the first place.

Rhys Hoskins just ripped up his knee..and Waino is hurt as well. Injuries happen, not just to the Mets.

Speaking of which, has anybody heard of Kodai Senga since he was scratched from a spring start for "absolutely nothing major, no biggie, no need to worry, srsly"?

He pitched the week after that, right before the WBC final, but he didn't throw his magic pitch So now he's an OOTP reliever with a fastball and changeup? "It hurts when I throw the forkball doc" "Don't throw it!"

This team makes you drink even while they're still 0-0.

So, to recount…

Quintana, Diaz and possibly Senga on the shelf. Scherzer and Verlander older than dirt. Carrasco hardly likely to carry the team on his own.

Good luck, team.

(Maybe Peterson becomes a Cy Young contender? But…maybe not.)
