Request: Vic Davalillo - 1968-69 Angels

Frosty Malt did a nice job of converting a Davalillo with the Dodgers to the Angels. Since he was in spring training with the Angels in 1969, I am hoping there is a nice photo available from the knees up. Chuck Hinton is another player on that '68 Angels team that could use a good photo.

One of the Expos's infamous trades

On May 25 1989, the Expos traded pitchers Randy Johnson, Brian Holman and Gene Harris to the Mariners for a star they thought would bring them a pennant, pitcher Mark Langston and a player to be named later (Mike Campbell). Of course, Randy won 303 games and 5 Cy Young along the rest of his great career. One of the reasons the Expos gave up on the lanky 6'10" lefthander is very well narrated on JockBio.com:

"...The Expos were planning to promote Randy midway through ’88. That plan got sidetracked during a June game when a batter lined a ball of his left wrist. Believing he had suffered a career-threatening break, Randy got so angry that he punched a bat rack on his way to the trainer’s room. When the x-rays came back, they revealed only a bruise on his left wrist—but his right hand was broken. The team, which had always questioned Randy’s maturity, was furious. He didn’t realize it at the time, but in a lot of minds within the Montreal organization now considered him expendable...."

The Expos GM who orchestrated the trade: Dave Dombrowski, actual Detroit Tigers GM!

1970 Seattle Pilots - the team that never was

In 1970 the Seattle Pilots reported for their 2nd ever spring training and Topps snapped some of these photos of the players. Before the 1970 season got started, however, the Pilots shaky ownership would fold and the team would be moved to Milwaukee to become the 1970 Milwaukee Brewers. Notice that the 1970 Pilots had fancier uniforms and hats with Pilots wings on them.

As a kid who had just started keeping up with baseball, I remember asking who these Pilots were and why did so many of their players end up with the Milwaukee Brewers.

Phil Roof - Greg Goosen - Marty Pattin - John O'Donoghue - Jesse Huggins
