I'm more worried by the wind pattern from the Ks... it picked up at the end, and any W is a good one, but the walks and Ks made for kind of a dull front end of that game.

So weird that there's no more Marlins games for months :/

Coming soon, patches for Amazon, Wal-Mart, Über, Pfizer and every other disgusting corporate vermin you can imagine.

Manly Rob Manfred really wants to be sure I never watch another game again, huh?

Well, to quote Willie S., " 'Tis better to have loved baseball and lost it, than never to loved at all." But still. Holy Moneygrubbing, Bat-Man!

Gary, Keith, and Ron said that Uncle Steve was unhappy with how it turned out. It had too much of a Phillies look. He wants something more orange and blue.

I wonder what we're gonna get. Fanta? Firefox? Union 76?

Are you kidding? Being sponsored by a hospital is the Metsiest thing ever, and poor old Steve can save a few bucks on MRIs!

I can't imagine that patch paying for Verlander's salary while he's on the DL, and even if it's $1m for the season, it still doesn't matter.

Quite a few missed opportunities here. Besides the gazillion base runners the Mets have already stranded in this game, nobody bothered - during the mental arithmetics who wore #4 after Wilmer - to say "Gore wore 4"??

I like cheap ones. Cheap ones are the only ones I get.

The outrage about ads on uniforms is something I will never get. Must be that they have been universal in Europe (in all sports I can think of) for all my life. And no one cares. Even the most "alternative" teams out there (f.e., in soccerball, St. Pauli) will not shy away from the free dosh. There is nothing noble in being broke and getting relegated.

I see no reason to use Gresham's Law to drive sports that have NOT turned their athletes into walking billboards down to the depths of minor-league footie teams. Our leagues make more than enough $$$ from tickets and concessions and broadcasting rights that they hardly need to cadge the spare nickels and dimes.

You may be inured by constant commercialization, but imagine if something you'd enjoyed your entire life without ads (Peacock Island, the Atta Cave, apple strudel, Michael Fassbinder and/or Claudia Schiffer) was suddenly plastered with stickers, for no relevant purpose other than a minor dollop of greed. You'd feel an æsthetic revulsion then too, I'd imagine. JMO.

One more detour, and then I'll let it be, because we won't agree.

I was a kid in the 90s. When I came home from kindergarten, I'd watch Wheel of Fortune, which taught me reading and basic algebra, and back then didn't pay out the $$$ won by the contestants in dosh, but in prizes. Each round would have one or more sponsors and a compendium of prizes the contestant could pick from up to the amount of his winnings. Grandfather explained to me why the companies would give out stuff for free on the show, so they could sell more stuff to other people who'd think to themselves, oh I want that shiny toaster for DM 150 as well. Give away a few toasters for free during the week, sell a hundred more in the store. Made perfect sense to me when I was five, and it still does. Why would it be any other way?

I don't know when you were a kid, but even the 1962 Mets announcers were clad in Rheingold jackets. And they had billboards around the perimeter of baseball fields as soon as they found out how to erect one vertically so it wouldn't crush the first outfielder that ran into it in pursuit of a fly ball before that, and probably some graffito advertising Marcus Antonius' freshest fish in the Circus Maximus before that. It makes too much sense not to. Everybody wins.

All that aside, the Mets are a lousy 5-5, and Carrasco and Marte had their heads caved in, one figuratively, and one literally. Oh, and here come the Padres.

It may help to look at it this way: As annoying advertisements can be, they reduce the cost of sports viewing for all of us.

He was the original Mr. Met.

When reporters asked Mets Manager Casey Stengel why Landrith, 31 years old, was anointed as the first Met, he replied: “You gotta have a catcher or you’d have a lot of passed balls.”

That man knew his baseball!

With the passing of Landrith, as pointed out by GKR on the broadcast, there are only three Mets remaining that played in the Mets' first-ever game, an 11-4 loss in St. Louis: Roger Craig (93), Jim Marshall (91), and Felix Mantilla (88).

Am I a negative nancy for mentally filing last night's game away in the L column as soon as they didn't pinch-hit for Alvarez?

Prospect here, prospect there. He has yet to hit anything but air......

6-6 after 12 games, same as in my live playalong in OOTP24. Maybe they really are $400M worth of meh.

I didn't think they had added enough last year and was surprised when they won all the regular season games, and I thought the same thing this year. Narvaez made sense as a part timer with Alvarez, but if they really intended to keep him in AAA they probably should have upgraded more at C.

Depth as ever is a problem, and they probably have the third best choice playing at 3B. I like Vogelbach but he seems like the usual AL player that doesn't really belong on a roster. I like Locastro and prefer the 26th guy to be fast/good with the glove but they seem to be using McNeil as the 4th OF which doesn't seem sustainable for 6 months.

And if the 35+ pitchers (Max, Verlander, Robertson, Ottavino) don't stay healthy that will be that. Hope the hospital sponsorship pays off!

Wait, what? (I'm not watching, remember)

Our homegrown hero, the Squirrel, isn't in the lineup regularly? Did Schmuck hit his head on the dugout roof?

Or do you mean that Jeff's playing 2B and being shifted to the OF in the late innings?

There is quite a bit of shifting going on. McNeil has started all games, but has already managed to appear at four different positions, which doesn't even include the fake position. Same for Canha (started all games, four different positions PLUS the fake position) and Guillorme (four different positions, including pitcher, whoops).

The only guy to appear at a particular position in every game is Lindor.

Also, you should watch. If they're not accidentally drowning in Bernie Brewer's barrel, they're actually not that bad.
