Sorry if this has been asked

I will be able to carry over my current league correct? All pages will then be updated with the new look?

Thank you.

Yep, the one thing that OOTP has been known for over the years is the ability to carry a league over from version to version. If you are like me and play out your games, you can have a league that is older then dirt over many different versions.

Cool

It's a great longstanding feature of OOTP, I play out my season as a mgr so it allows me get spring training going and then import my league into the new version when it comes out.

Aye, not to worry. I've been doing this for years. Provided you're not trying to jump directly from a much older version the import process should go smoothly, and even then, there are workarounds.

when I first started playing OOTP & heard about your season carrying over to the next year's version, mind = blown. absolute game-changer imo.

would there be any advantage to starting over with 16? or does every feature in the new game get carried over to my existing career?

For the most part, there are no real advantages, unless you want the updated 2015 rosters. But it ultimately depends on exactly what the new features are, which we'll be seeing more of in the Road to Release series.

Road to Release will start on Monday, hopefully. It goes out by email and will get posted to the blog this time too.

Hoping to pick the brains of the OOTP veterans and get some advice -- when is the best time of the 'year' to import a league into a new version of OOTP? I'm going to import my league into OOTP 16 when I reach the off-season (rather than mid-season), in order to maintain continuity and seasonal integrity, but when is the optimal point in the off-season to do this? Immediately after the World Series? Right before Salary Arbitration Hearings? Right before Free Agency? At the end of the calendar year? Or right before Spring Training?

(I have a traditional April-October season.)

I'm guessing you could theoretically do it at any point, but am guessing that there's probably a recommended period in the offseason to make the switchover. I'd like the transition to be as seamless as possible (i.e. you wouldn't be able after-the-fact to look back at the league records and easily point and say "There's obviously when the switch occurred, look at the continuity break") while allowing me to benefit from all these great new improvements that OOTP16 is expected to bring. Thanks for any tips!

it has always worked seamlessly for me so the time of season hasn't really mattered. to be safe always backup your league before you try to transfer !!

Seconded. However, if you want to be extra careful, I recommend doing it in the pre-season. That's the time of year to make any and all big changes to a league in general.

Thanks guys, that's exactly what I was looking for. I definitely consider changing the game platform to be a big change (hopefully for the better!) to the league.

By pre-season, we're talking about the league event that falls between the "Rule 5 Draft" and "Spring Training Begins" -- customarily somewhere towards the end of January, right?

While you can import your league over at any time, I would generally recommend doing it the day that free agents file, if not sometime between the end of the WS and arbitration.

Between the goals and financial/contract changes, I would say it makes the most sense to have the full off-season your first year.

Pre-season works as well. I mean if you're already in pre-season or spring training when the new edition comes out, don't wait a year - it will kill you

And speaking for myself, as an OOTP player for years, I've always thought it was weird how other games did not let you move your game year to year. As far as I was aware, OOTP set the standard for that and it's just been natural that you could always do it.

I usually do it first day of the offseason, but just before opening day or just after ST finishes has worked well. Logically you want to avoid mixing different AI Eval and player movement that occurs throughout the year.

Indeed. IIRC MLB: The Show is supposedly going to allow this going forward, but I can't think of any other games that do.

Bit off tangent, but for me (long time ago, now) Season Ticket was the only game that offered fictional players and you could conduct an initial draft to start a league. THAT sold me on the spot.

I would do it on day 1 of preseason or on the first day of the offseason.
