question about draft
when looking at a player in the draft how often do the players exceed their potential expectations?

About as often as in real life. Not very often. Personally, for hitters, I try to draft those with high potential for contact and low K's vs. power. Too many times there are guys with high power potential but low contact and high K's and they end up hitting .220 with 30 HR's. I'd much rather have a guy hitting .300 with 15 HR's.

I have seen some players see some boosts in later rounds. Probably the best pitcher i ever had was an 8th rounder.
Usually after the first couple of rounds i focus on hitters that have one strong feature that may not have high overall potentials. For pitchers i tend to try to get groundballers as a preference to fill out my system. Last 5 or so rounds i look for good defensive players to help in the lower minor leagues as well. I think it also helps i try to max out development funds as well. |

That reminds me, I had a 12th round SP I drafted that spend years in the low minors before he suddenly blew up and became a 4+ star player. He didn't make his MLB debut until he was 27 or 28 but I got 8-9 good years out of him.
It seems to be completely random when it comes to draft picks after the first 5 rounds. |
