Ludicrous Minor league player movement - update

A little while ago, I commented that OOTP 26 handling of players in an organisation was unrealistic. I was hoping that this would be fixed in later patches. Alas, it hasn't.

To recap, I like managing a managing a minor league team day to day through a season. I find it fun managing with a changing cast of players. This was do-able in previous versions of OOTP. Not so much now because of how the game assigns players in an organisation. There is constant wholesale changes to teams almost daily. To an extent this is the case in real-life, but not to this degree. I decided to take a deeper dive, comparing teams from three leagues in 1948 and 2024. I looked at the number of players used by each team in the sims, and in reality.

For the 1948 season, I looked at the PCL, Eastern League, and the California League.

Affiliated teams in the PCL each used between 76 and 93 players in the sim. In real life they used between 22-30. In the Eastern League, 69-112 players were used in the sim, but only 19-29 players in real life. In the California league, each of the affiliated teams used 67-145 (!) players, but only between 19-27 in reality.

For the 2024 season, I also looked at the PCL, Eastern League, and the California League.

Teams in the PCL each used between 80 and 97 players in the sim. In real life they used between 63-90. In the Eastern League, 68-105 players were used by each team in the sim, but only 52-77 players in real life. In the California league, each of the affiliated teams used 72-115 players, but only between 57-79 in reality.

Now, these numbers are arguably unrealistic. The situation is worse when the constant churn of players on a day-to-day basis is taken in to account.

Is there any way to turn this down? So players aren't being reassigned over 12 times a season, or 6 times a month. So a line of 90 plus players a season are not being paraded through a given team?

I’ve had issue with this for awhile. It’s been like this forever. It “seems” like it should be a relatively simple thing to code to leave players at a level longer. However, I suspect with injuries and all of the variables, it becomes complex.

When the AI faces injuries it has to fill the positions, so it likely calls up from the level below. But then when the player returns from injury they have to demote them. But what if they moved a player to the lower level to back fill?

Now they may move them back down to an even different team, which then may cause an issue on that team, and round and round we go.

Again, I agree they should spend some time trying to decrease total movement and how disorganized it can look. But I can also see the complexity of trying to creates a “perfect” rule set to handle it all realistically.

This is the AI handling of teams' rosters. It effects me if I am managing a minor league team through a season, with the "Big Club" AI assigning players.

It's a bit of a mess. It makes following or directly managing a minor league team a nightmare.
