Choke stories

ACK. Cruising to win division by late afternoon yesterday so didn't bother checking till now. And what a surprise... I'm the L6 guy. And what an L6! Especially since the last 4 games of the season were against the division champ (and of these 4, 2 losses in overtime and a 1 run choke due to 2 runs bottom 9th in the final game of the season).

You know, I think my team would be far better if PT points were awarded for bad luck instead of good luck. Not a true choke story to some since the team made the playoffs by 1 game. Still wild.

You're perfectly positioned to run the table and win the WS!

Based on past experience that's what I was expecting. What you said literally happened to me in silver leagues some while back when I squeaked into the last wildcard spot and swept to a WS win.

In this case won the wild card series, then lost 3 games to 1 to this same divisional rival from the first post in the division series. First loss by one run in the 11th inning, and the 3rd loss ended like the last game of the season, 2 runs in the 9th inning to beat me by 1 run.

Hopefully his luck holds out to the WS.

I have a potential choke story in action. This year, I made a third team and all I did is sit in iron, not touch the team, and collect points and packs, and buy up bottom tier cards at minimums.

I played my pay team and my free team all year and just let this third team sit there.

My pay team has always underperformed and my free team somehow got lucky and won one championship.

Well, I finally used up all these gathered points (no real money spent on this team) and built a 141-21 juggernaut. Which is now, of course, down 2-1 in the LCS to total scrubs.

My pitcher with a season ERA of 1.92 gave up 7 runs in 5 innings.

Now, I knew this team would get double promoted or triple promoted and suck like all my other teams, but I at least expected one championship and one magnificent seasion. I did have the magnificent season, ex. Shohei Ohtani hit 58 home runs in iron.

If I lose this series, I will know what I already suspect, that this game is in vast proportion, blind luck.

I don't think I will be able to cope with investing time any longer. It would be completely pointless.

I forget if it was in OOTP 22 or OOTP 23 (EDIT: or maybe OOTP 2020? my memory fails me) but I had a scrub team that languished in the lower leagues. But due to speculation over time I was able to complete some "build a team" missions or whatever they were called. They basically gave you a complete lineup of somewhat mediocre 100 rated cards. Anyhow instead of triggering the mission completions I waited till the prerequisites were all finished and triggered them all at the same time between seasons.

It was ridiculous the carnage this instantly materialized team wreaked upon the innocent in this lower league. Winning 27 to 2 wasn't actually that unexpected. I may recall incorrectly but it was like a 116 win season (should have been 162). Then we immediately were swept in the playoffs to a team of mere peasants.

If you never lose 3 or 4 in a row in the regular season, how do you lose 3 or 4 in a row to an inferior team? Shouldn't be very likely.

And that's why I don't take this Perfect Team format seriously. They like having a black box where you don't know the mechanics. It's gambling without a tangible payoff. "Yay I have the best online baseball team". Write that on your resume.

If you have my attitude it's fun. (Edit: fun-ish... knowing how flakey it is)

Hawkwing, here's my Honus Wagner Variant level 5 stats since I purchased him (I don't really do missions). This is what you're up against so don't take PT seriously.

EDIT: consistency in not an option when everyone has the same cards. Hence shenanigans

LOL. Welcome to Perfect Team!

I had a team dominate their league by winning 120 games, only to get swept 3-0 in the division series by an average team.

Weird outcomes, it's in the game!

Well, with this silly strategy I did, I got quintuple promoted, from Iron to Low Gold, and now I'm the worst team in the league!

7-16

Honus Wagner, non-variant, batting .167
Shohei batting .172
Rod Carew .207
Dave Winfield .205

Ghastly

Yeah, I'm not a fan of these super-promotions. Instead of being able to pound the competition for a few hundred thousand PP on our way up the ladder, we jump into Over-matched City. One more source of cash infusions removed. Additionally...

the super promotions mean that we sit through the week wondering just how many teams will get promoted or relegated because of this added twist.
