I'm in the FBBL league (members.rogers.com/crackpott) and I have a major problem that I just found. My team is the Mets and I have Vicente Padilla. He was a premier setup man w/ a 9 in avoiding runs and an 8 in walks w/ a brilliant talent. All of a sudden after our last sim, he has dropped to a 3 in avoiding runs and a 0 in walks w/o any kind of injury. I believe there is some sort of glitch in the game that caused it and the commish of the league will not fix the problem until I have some kind of proof of this error. Please let me know what is wrong here.

First off you should try to get your commish to include all the files in your downloadable league file. Currently there is no way to tell whether there were injuries (or player devel changes) during a sim as that info has been left out of the league file.
Other than an injury the only other idea I have is related to the scouts - AVG rated scouts can be drastically off. Being off by 6-7 points seems unlikely though, but I don't use the scout feature much. I have never seen ratings drops of this size. |

We would need much more information and/or the full league file to be able to tell you. At the very least the information should be available to all of the owners on the site if its not in the league file..
When asking a question like this be sure to provide all league settings, etc. |

Scott, his league file is available at the url <a href="http://members.rogers.com/crackpott/" target="_blank">http://members.rogers.com/crackpott/</a> . They use modern rosters (looks like Rolen's edit of Mazeroski's original set) and scouts are "on". Also looks like all scouts have been set to "AVG". <a href="http://www.gamershomepage.com/fbbl/1197.htm" target="_blank">Vicente Padilla</a> was shown here as a "9" rated reliever before the new html was upped this morning, but now he is rated as a "3" due to a "Avoiding BB's" rating that appears to have reset to zero.
daman_4215: Looks like a bug. I've heard about this but never seen it since it is uncommon to have players rated so high. The Brilliant "Avoiding BB's" numeric rating went to zero, so I'd guess the "Avoiding BB's" rating versus RHB "turned over" when it reached 10 or 11. Maybe others have seen this too and can provide insight. Hopefully your commish will edit the players "Avoiding BB's" versus RHB and that should solve this problem. If the player is left like this there is a good chance the "Avoiding BB's" talent drops quickly. |

Thanks Killebrew, I was at work so downloading the league file wasn't an option... and you had mentioned that some of the reports were missing so when they weren't available on the website either that seemed odd and makes it much more difficult to diagnose... at least without the file.. but I think you are right it looks like this rating sees a roll over problem too... this would be a good one to pass one to Markus so potentially this fix could be added to the final patch if the Lahman database ever comes out.

Actually Killebrew did you see the rating as a 9 earlier today? Obviously I got there after the player report was upped and saw the three, so potentially this could be his proof that there was a roll over issue.

I don't recall what the "Avoiding BB's" rating was but by the looks of the current player page, I agree the roll over issue seems to have occured. This is a strange one, as I didn't think that problem was happening anymore. Here is the previous team rating page listing for Padilla (from my internet cache): [code] Name Age Role ERA AVG HR BB K STA REL V. Padilla 26 MR 9 7 8 8 6 * C </pre><hr></blockquote> |

[code]
PITCHING RATINGS : Duration as Starter : * Duration as Reliever : C Holding Runners : C Groundball Pct. : 57 Avoiding Runs : 3 Avoiding Hits : 7 (VS. RHB : 8, VS. LHB : 7, Talent Good) Avoiding Doubles : 5 (VS. RHB : 5, VS. LHB : 4, Talent Average) Avoiding Homeruns : 8 (VS. RHB : 10, VS. LHB : 7, Talent Brilliant) Avoiding BB's : 0 (VS. RHB : 0, VS. LHB : 6, Talent Brilliant) Getting Strikeouts : 6 (VS. RHB : 7, VS. LHB : 5, Talent Average) </pre><hr></blockquote> That's what it currently says... so it would seem to show that there was an issue during the sim, hopefully this will help you out daman_4215. I had also thought Markus had gotten this issue: However before the issue was with the Strikeout rating for batters. Out of curiousity isn't this rating in the same position as the Walks allowed rating for pitchers? Maybe the problem was with how that column of the database was setup? Or something like that in the code, hence why it would have only effected those two ratings? Does this even sound plausable? Just some thoughts.. Edit - I passed this thread on to Markus in case he hadn't seen it yet. [ January 03, 2002: Message edited by: ScottVib ]</p> |

I figured it might be something to do with this, as I remember when creating the players there was a certain range (eg. when it asks you "How many walks in a season?" or whatever) that when you type it in, although good, would be zero. I wasn't sure if that was just a problem when editing the player. I got Ronnie to post about it because I don't like the idea of just editing a player without any idea of what happened. I figured if Markus or OOTP1 could back up this rollover theory, i'd happily edit it back.
Any more info needed? I am using OOTP 3.2 since I don't think that's been brought up yet. |

We'll find out I sent Markus an email (just incase Steve or he hadn't seen it yet) so if he needs anything else to figure out what's up I'm sure he'll let you know.

Looks like the old problem again... just the first time it happened to the BB rating. I'll fix it.

Looks like it may have happened to the "Avoiding HR's" ratings as well on the CDL's <a href="http://www.sportplanet.com/sbb/cdl/files/641.htm" target="_blank">Vida Blue</a>. A "Good" talent rating in avoiding HR's, but a "0" numeric rating adds up to a record 68 Homers allowed in 225 innings pitched (1972 CDL season). This issue maybe so rare because there are only a few ratings that ever get in the range on 10+.

Usually a Good talent won't lead to an ability well into the 10s range. This would make it tougher to locate players that this is happening to. |

I still think this is a very rare event, Vida Blue is the 1st case I have noticed (in a league I have been in) where a rating was messed up like that. |
