Started the league with the 1870 name and world files. I think it is something to do with the default percentages the game gives. It seems there is some country it allocates to that does not exist in the 1870 file.
The default countries the game puts percentages to follows. DR, Venz, PR, CAN, Cuba, Mexico, Australia, panama, columbia, taiwan, netherlands antilles, Japan, NIC, CR, SK, Brazil, The Netherlands, Aruba, Italy and Germany. It looks like Costa Rica is missing from the 1870 set. I don't see it in my game that started in 1871. I also created the NL as a new league in 1876 and had the same problem so I think Costa Rica may have been a deleted country in this set. The game defaults to putting a percentage of players to Costa Rica. I think it is not finding it and hence the blank flag and a country that is getting assigned a percentage that does not show up in the list. |

When did they add Costa Rica to the list? It was never one of the default countries before. There has never been a major league player from Costa Rica; why is it getting a default percentage?
Thanks for the heads up and I will get an updated file out over the weekend. |

Okay, I sent a new file to OOTPMods.com with Costa Rica added to the world_default.xml files. To use the new files if you already have Questdog's Names installed just install the new world_default_xml of your choice and re-import it.
I think the names files had a couple of very minor changes to them, but nothing worth re-importing them for. If anyone cannot wait for the file to be posted there, just PM me an email address and I will send you the new file directly. Thanks! P.S. I also added a beard_frequency file appropriate (I think) for the 19th century. I did not put a whole bunch of effort into it though and if someone thinks they have a better one, send it to me and if I agree that it is better than mine, I'll add it to the next release. How come the Questdog name file doesn't show up in the OOTP Add-ons central?

I figured it out. The frequencies for Latino names were too heavily favoring "white" first names. I altered to my preference.
Also, I added about 20 African American first names. I'm looking to add a couple hundred more. |

The frequency of all names is based on data and not personal preference.

I noticed that, compared to the default first_names file, your 2000s names file seems to have a lot less diversity. Am I mixing them up? Compare:

No, my names lists are split into two; one for anglos and one for african-americans. There are fewer names in the anglo list than the default list, but most of the overage in the default list is crap......
My list includes every name that was given to at least five anglo infants in the USA. If you are anglo or know someone that is, then look at the list of default names as a list of possibilities to name your or your firend's anglo newborn and I feel pretty confident that you will spot quite a few that no new anglo mother would approve (or at least five of them in the whole country would not condone)..... |

I guess it makes sense, considering yours is based on data. It just seems weird that there's so much more variation for the 0 set in the last names, and then so much less for the first names.

I'm using your mod and I want to create an India league which is not a nation in your default_world. Is there an easy way to add India?

Rather than letting QD name file overwrite, you need to merge them with the existing one that way it doesn't wipe out the countries he doesn't include.

Questog, this is an absolutely amazing mod! Thanks for all of your hard work on this.
I do have one question - I'm using your 2000 names, world default, and ethnicities files. Where in the files or in the game can I edit the percentage of African American names/players that get produced for U.S. players?

If this is for a league already started, go to the Nation Editor tab of the United States (found under the Game Menu/Explore World). Change the settings at the bottom under the Language information. U.S. (Modern) is the Anglo names and U.S. (Historical) are the African-American names. |

questdog, I've been using your nameset for awhile now and I love it. But I'm noticing that at least in my file, there isn't much variety when it comes to first names for Caucasian North American players. I'm using the 2000 set, and I've lost track to how many "Dave's" or "Tom's" I'm seeing. I did exactly what was asked in the readme, so I'm not sure what the issue could be.
I'm randomizing multiple players for a good 5 minutes sometimes, and names such as Dave, Tom and Ian come up every 2-3 clicks. Let's use this for an example. I'm going to use 2 players and I'm going to hit "random names" 30 times on each and I'll write here what comes up for the first names. Chances are, many of the names are going to be used multiple times. Player 1: Ernie T.J Rusty Dusty Jimmy J.D Fred Ed Khalil Dusty Roman Pat Joey Geoff Ed Rusty Pat Jimmy Jimmy Zachary Tom Jayden Tom Ian Pat Dave Jimmy Jamie Will T.J Player 2: Dusty Pat Joey Xavier Ozzie Micah Tom Dave Dave Dave Al Tom Will Dave Erik Dave Dusty Aidan C.J D.J Tony Jimmy Tom Ted Ernie Zachary Dave Will J.D Dave As you can see, I'm not seeing much variety in my randomizing. Look at player 2, Dave was randomized 7 times out of 30. Is there something wrong with my setup? I get that names like Dave and Tom and Jimmy are common names, but it's getting to the point where it seems like for draft classes and such it's the same 10 names or so. Any ideas?
