OOTP running slow

Question, not sure if this is the place and I apologize if so, but I am running my OOTP season on my Mac. I am running stats only using feeder leagues. I notice that whenever I click on the tab to go to free agents, the program bogs down and takes quite a bit of time.

Any suggestions?

What is your league file size?

Depending on league age and several user controlled settings your league file can be huge? This may affect performance? I trim the file every season and it seems to work.

How full is the HDD that OOTP is installed on?

As HDD get full performance drops.I'm lucky enough to have dedicated OOTP drives.

Do you maintain the computer and HDD by deleting various useless files and defragmenting drives. OOTP writes huge amounts of data to disk and if the data is fragmented there is a definitive loss of performance.

You may or may not have any of these issues but experience suggests this is the first place to look.

Rich, what do you trim off? Delete free agents? Retired folks?

See this and another thread linked within it.

Edit:

Be careful and follow all warnings. You could accidentally delete critical files doing this. Use any of this info at your own risk.

I have a 23 yr league and only delete box scores at the end of the year. My PC is fairly new (bought in May) and I do not have the slowness of OOTP on this PC as I did on my old PC.

There is a memory leak in OOTP. I don't have the technical know how to describe it but one should close the game and restart it from time to time.

How would I do that? I have started many careers, however, I tend to erase the league before starting a new one. I do go into the files and delete all as well.

How full is the HDD that OOTP is installed on?

374 GB used, 125 free.

according to what I have read out there, it is not necessary to defrag a Mac

Could it be something such as the feeder leagues I created have totally slowed everything down because it creates that much more data?
I tried to answer some of your questions to get further along.

Would it benefit to buy a new external hard drive and run everything from there, game, files, etc?

OK

That's 75%, seems high but I don't know MAC

OK

Yes but many other players have feeder leagues. Again I don't know MAC so can't say if a 3-5GB file size is a problem.. The issue happens after several seasons and is affected by settings that save box scores and logs.

Depends on read/write speeds. For external drives speed is usually slower. I have an internal SSD drive which is super fast.

So, it sounds like as I get deeper into my franchise it is only going to run slower...not a good sign.

My initial thought is that I abandon this franchise before I get hooked, start over, and eliminate feeder leagues that sounds to be a lot of data that slows the game down.
