Just purchased game. . .require assistance

Hi there,

I know that there are a lot of advanced things that you can do with this game, and from what I can tell it is advertised as a playground where you create any baseball world that you like.

The baseball world that I want to create is as follows. . .put together a 40-man roster of the All-Time Greatest Mets from any previous season ('69 Seaver, '85 Gooden, '00 Piazza, '11 Reyes. . .you get the picture) and play a season against the rest of the current major leagues.

I don't want to be hampered by maintaining a whole minor league system or any financial nonsense (like contracts or ticket prices). I just want to load up the Mets and go.

Oh, and if I can I want to put the Astros back in the NL where they belong and not have interleague play.

I would also like to activate/deactivate players from the 25-man roster at will without having to deal with any "rules" (so if I want to alternate deGrom and Harvey as my fifth starter behind Seaver, Koosman, Gooden, and Matlack, I can do that). I do want fatigue and injuries to be a factor though.

Can I customize a league this way (take any player from any season and put them on one team while dumbing down certain detailed aspects so I can just play ball), or is the game's structure more stingent and hard-coded than that?

Please help, thanks!!!

You can absolutely set this league up. You will have to import the players you want from the historical database onto the team you want, but its absolutely doable.

I'll leave it to someone a little more versed in historical player importing (I do customs and historicals myself, but not well-versed in individual importing) but this isn't very difficult.

You can absolutely set the roster rules the way you want, turn the financials and such off, and just worry about baseball. I don't see a single thing you've mentioned that you won't be able to do -- so you're about to enter baseball heaven.

Welcome to OOTP!

OK. . .so I set up a Custom League the way I think I way I want it and I have also imported several historical season databases into the same "game" as the Custom League. Now I am at the point where I can do the Inaugural Draft for my Custom League (I set Commissioner Mode for the league so that I can control every team and all the rosters are empty). The problem now is that the selections for the draft are all fictional players. How can I get rid of those and replace them with players from the historical leagues?

When you setup the league you should have gone to advanced options and historical team import under teams.
Quick fix is delete all fictional players under Commish mode. Go to list all players in league, make sure they are not real players or go team by team or under FA, depending what you have done to your game so far. Select the bubble near the top left and right click delete. Schedule a fantasy draft under league settings.

That sounds close to what I eventually figured out. I purged the draft of all the available fictional players, then executed the draft with no players available (so nothing really happened). Then I can go team by team, "clone" the players I want so that they appear in the FA pool of the fictional league, temporarily "act" as manager for each of the teams, and sign the players.

What I then noticed is that you cannot clone the managers and coaches the same way that you can clone the players so that they appear in Available Personnel, so I guess that I will go with the fictional managers in the Custom League.
