Question calling up ml spects

does anyone have any tips on calling up or demoting your studs in the minors, how often do you check up on them, monthly, weekly? Any tricks that can help a fellow gm in this area? thanks in advance.

Even though I am in control of minor league promotions and demotions, I still see those nifty arrows (green for up, red for down) which are recommendations from my minor league managers. I take those as clues but I don't necessarily do as they ask.

I check monthly (when I remember). Weekly is not enough time to show anything different from last week. What I look for is age and recent performance at current minor league level:
  • A young guy (for the level) who is struggling, I will demote.
  • An older guy (for the level) who is struggling, I will leave in place as a "last chance."
  • A young guy (for the level) who is doing very well for a couple of months, I will promote.
  • An older guy (for the level) who is doing very well for even just a month, I will promote right away because he may be ready to make more than one jump in level.
This may or may not coincide with the arrows, particularly the green ones. What are the proper ages (for the level), you may ask? For me, they are:
  • Rookie - 22 and younger
  • A and AA - 22 to 24
  • AAA - 24 to 26
Obviously, these are not rigid limits. A true stud could be at AAA at age 20 and some guy who is struggling but turning things around could be still at AA at age 25. But these are general guidelines for me, particularly for whom I end up releasing. If I see a guy still in Rookie level at 25 after failing at A, he is most likely gone. Somebody good enough to make it to AAA and who is 27 or older is probably trade bait.
