Just wondering why Milwaukee is named this way in the game and when exactly does it switch between each of the different versions.

It is to differentiate between the Milwaukee franchises. The 1878 National League team is a different franchise from the Brewers, which is a different franchise from the Milwaukee Braves. The abbreviation changes whenever the franchise changes.
