First Time Playing OOTP 17 - Real Faces

Hello All!
I have been a long time player of the Football (Soccer) Manager series so I figured since I love baseball and the Phillies I would give OOTP17 a shot and try to rebuild my beloved Phillies.

First impressions are great, reminds me alot of the FM series in terms of the depth of details and such.

My first question is it appears that all the players have generated faces. I am sure this topic has been beaten to the ground already but is there a mod I could add where all the players (well at least current and 'real' players) would have their actual pictures or is that something I have to do on a player by player basis within their folders.

Thanks!

there are two historical face pacs in the Add-ons central. You probably will need to load the mods server to get them appear. It's simple, and here's a link with instructions on how to get the server into your game.

https://ootpmods.com/tiki-index.php?page=OOTPB+mods

once you get that loaded, just click on the face-pac you want. it will download it for you to the correct place. Then be certain you INSTALL it after that. (that need shows up on the list as well once it's downloaded.) Should be good to go next time you open your game. Enjoy.

Thanks!
Another question:

-Looking at my players' salaries, I see a lot of players with "Auto-Renew" contracts. Does that mean I will be forced to resign them when the offseason comes or I can choose not to resign them?

auto renew - means the computer does it for you .... i THINK it has something to do with how many years they have before arbitration. The only time i worry is when i go to the Financial page and look for up-coming free agents. Then i need to decide if i want to keep the player or let him walk and bring someone up from the minors the next year.

Auto renew indicates that the player is not yet arbitration eligible. Depending on actual playing time some players become eligible between their 2nd and third year, others after their 3rd year and still others take longer if they do not spend enough time on the active roster.

You don't have to re-sign anyone but if you decide not to you must release those who are on auto renew and not offer arbitration to those who are eligible.

A little crash course in baseball contracts for our European friend:

In Major League Baseball, a team has an exclusive contract with a player for the first six years of that player's major league career (unless they choose to trade or release that player)

For the first three years, the team decides how much they want to pay the player, with no recourse or negotiation by the player and agent. There is a minimum salary, and most teams pay the minimum for a first year player, a little bit over for a second-year player, and a little bit more over for a third-year player. This is the auto-renew function in the game.

In the fourth, fifth and sixth years of a player's career, he has the right to have an independent arbitrator determine his salary if the player's agent and the team cannot come to an agreement. The player submits a figure, the team submits a figure and the arbitrator has to select one or the other. After six years of service, if a player is out of contract, he becomes a free agent, able to sign with any major league team.

Of course, teams (and players) will often sign multi-year deals to avoid the arbitration process or even keep players under contract when they might otherwise become free agents. This is called "buying out" arbitration years or free agency years. For teams, they do it to get cost certainty and, hopefully, pay a player less than the might have to via arbitration, and for players, it provides them financial security and protection against poor performance, since major league contracts are guaranteed.

I hope this helps you understand the basics and gives you some idea what to expect when negotiating with your OOTP players - BigRed

As I indicated earlier good young players can become arbitration eligible before 3 years service. See this primer.

players with between two and three years of service may be eligible if they rank in the top 22% of service time among players with between two and three years of service.
