Opening and Managing historical_database.odb

How do I open, modify and save something in the historical_database.odb file? In previous versions there was an alternative to using this file; the master, batting, pitching files. This no longer seems to be possible.

I like to delete the "cup of coffee" players out of the master file prior to playing a random game. It's surprising how many of these there are. It doesn't really change the game much and allows for a faster play through of players who actually had MLB careers.

I don't like what they did here either. I understand the game may not use the same format as the lahman database but there is no reason players should not be able to easily edit the players and transaction files.
Especially when you edit so many other things. Taking this option away only limits the historical accuracy and enjoyment of playing the game as one would like.
I still shake my head when i see the American League in 1876.
