As someone new to the OOTP, I'm constantly trying to improve my understand of the game. Besides reading threads in this forum, I also study what choices my opponents are making who are having better success than myself.
One strategy I keep seeing is that they are putting players who have 0 training at positions and it doesn't seem to effect anything. Example A.) If you play this player at SS during a Tournament, what are you risking? ![]() Same manager put this other player at 3B. ![]() By my noob understanding is if I did this, then I'd have my whole left IF with 0 training and that seems like a disaster but in this 7 game tournament series it seemed to have no consequence for my opponent doing it. What am I missing?

Someone with those individual skills isn't going to forget how to field because you shifted them from SS to 3B - they just won't perform to the level they would if they had experience at the position. I could be wrong, but that's just what I've come to understand.

It's a risk to put an untrained player at a position for a tournament, but having their bat in the lineup (or the bat of whoever is in their main position) may be a worthy reward. This is also a less risky move if you load your pitching staff with stuff-heavy and/or flyball pitchers where defense is less crucial.
