Twas up, so...
I shut it down after my last post, because one of sons, in rooting through a closet for old games for game night, came across two Strat-O-Matic game boxes, that were bought probably 20 years ago at the Salvation Army store. They were, it seemed, little played, and in great shape. the 1982 and 1984 seasons. The were priced at $2.50 each. They also later found an SOM hockey, but we haven't opened it yet. We're gonna work them into a game night for sure. I'll kill them.
Actually the reason I'm not going right to bed is because I'm cooling down from me best start with them in Samurai Swords, the game my son was getting when the other stuff was found. It's Risk type game that was originally called "Shogun," and was put out to capitalize on the popularity of the mini-series based on the James Clavell novel. There actually a log book inside the game that documents my string of failures. Anyway, we played for two hours and my set up has been my best yet, I think. They've only figure out half my moves before I know them, down from my usual 90%. ![]() Anyway, that will be left set up and returned to over the coming days. It takes awhile. I'll report on anything interesting that comes from the SOM. What this long introduction is for is to say that Hooterville clings to a one-game lead over Brigadoon in OL ST165. However, the race is still five wide, with only Port Ruppert with little seeming shot. They have only four games left and even a sweep of them would have them just a bit above .500. The rest of the league has a ton of games left, with some teams close to doubling their schedule. Vlora plays the least at 7, but those seven are all against Brigadoon and all on the road, so their path would seem a steep one. Anyway, here's the standings. I'll post the remaining schedule using my abbreviations immediately after this. |

The remaining games
In order they'll be played, probably. Sorry, forgot the dates and it's late to go back and get them. The sim will have already started by the time I get up.

And down the stretch they come
The race for the OL Crown will come down to the wire. Off an 11-3 day Hidden Valley has overtaken Kansas by a percentage point with Weston Pointe a close third. As we head to the last day here are their OL schedules:
Hidden Valley: 18 games remaining. 3 vs. Transylvania 6 vs. Bluffton 6 vs. Midwest 3 vs. Weston Pointe Kansas: 11 games remaining 3 vs. K-Town 5 vs. Coney Island 3 vs. Palolo Weston Pointe: 9 games remaining 3 vs. Transylvania 3 vs. Annadale 3 vs. Hidden Valley In Iron League play In the American Conference all three divisions have been clinched. OL Division winners Hidden Valley and Weston Pointe are headed for a clash in the divisional series as it doesn’t seem likely either will overtake top seed in the AC St. Paul. The AC wildcard show Annadale controlling their own destiny as the top seed. Bluffton holds the second spot by 2.5 games. In the National Cary seems in line to clinch the west and after playing .750 ball in August Kansas has opened up a 9.5 game lead in the East. The NC wildcard has all OL teams on the outside looking in. Vegas is shoe in for the first spot with Coney Island is trailing Minnesota by 2.5 games. The teams play seven times including a three game series to end the season. Palolo still has life, four games behind the Warriors and 6.5 behind the last WC spot. Should be some good September baseball |

A good time to remind you.
If I don't have your team's logo from this year or last year, please post it. If you put one up, believe me I have it. Otherwise you get a fuzzy screenshot job, or something I make for you. Thanks.

Rookie league update:
Terra Incognita holds a solid lead as we hit the stretch run to the end of the regular season. From a pro-rel perspective, Terra Incognita, Hartford and Daytona Beach are within the promotion range, with Asheboro, Ring Road and Waffletown lurking just on the outside (though I wouldn't complain if the Syrups failed to move up and spent another season at the rookie tier )

Brigadoon and Annandale maintain their psychic link for the month, with both teams going 15-11.
Annandale is playing for pride though, as Saint Paul has already clinched the division. I'm hanging in there, only 37 games back though! We do lead the WC race though, and are one of only 2 American League non-division leaders playing over .500 ball! I was looking at the Promotion/Relegation standings for the Iron league and noticed that all the top teams were playing under their Pythagorean predicted win totals. After thinking about it a bit, I guess it's because we have 5 teams playing .700 ball, and since they face each other a fair bit (and since SOMEONE has to lose those games!) they are losing more than you'd think from just looking at the numbers. Good News re: Auction House In Auction House news, the offering of Historical Packs has had a massive positive effect on historical AH supply. I've never bought one of those packs (if I had 10k PP I'd buy a player) but there are obviously a lot of people who *are* buying, because the AH is now chock-full of historic players. And that's great for us. I've seen many players that I've never run into before on the AH. Over the last 24 hours prices have also fallen a bit on good cards - prices appear to be holding steady on what I'd call the "marquee" cards - maybe coming down a little. Prices for good golds have softened a lot in the past 24 hours and I'm hopeful this will continue due to the influx of more usable historical cards. Weird Pricing There still seems to be some weirdness in pricing of some well-known players... not all, but some. And the extra supply hasn't affected prices for these guys (yet?). Maybe it's the familiarity factor - the prices of certain cards really seem out of whack to me. Three examples: 86 Rod Carew, which is offered at 9k PP, 82 Don Mattingly, which goes for 17k, and the 83 Pete Rose, which is around 9.5k. Don't get me wrong - if I received any of those cards in a pack, I would play them (well... I would probably sell the Mattingly!). These are good cards (and in fact the Rose card is one that is particularly wanted for Brigadoon). But according to my card evaluations, none of these cards is really worth it. There are always plenty of first basemen who can hit, so Mattingly seems way overpriced (and I do realize he's an important card in a mission but even so, the card seems priced at at least double what I'd pay for it). The Carew card is good hit but only average field, and seems about 30% overpriced to me. And the Rose card -good hit, above average corner OF player - seems overpriced by about 2k to me. Part of the price is in the novelty factor - well-known players who haven't been seen on the AH a lot (although actually Mattingly and Rose cards have been showing up in droves!). So I can only hope that with more supply the price of the Rose card will fall so Brigadoon can someday buy one! Missions Oh yeah, had to edit my post because I forgot one of my main points: I usually keep an eye out for missions to complete, but with the recent influx of historical players to the AH, it seems I'm putting missions on the back burner, at least for a short while. It's interesting in that a couple of weeks ago all I was doing was looking at missions. Now all I'm doing is looking at the AH! Last edited by Charlatan; 04-18-2020 at 11:00 AM. |

Was going to get an Historical pack (had 9000 points plus more coming with playoffs, but no guarantee that the people I wanted would be drawn. Almost got a Diamond Billy Williams for DH but I could easily fill two holes with 2 solid gold cards, so purchased C John Stearns (88) for 4500 and 89-Dennis Leonard for 4000. My strategy is also to get more good gold cards to enter the gold tourneys with. I should make the playoffs and get promoted to Stone (finally), but in the middle of the pack for the OL season.

The Negro Card Collection just got released yesterday so I wonder if AH prices are dropping due to some guys needing to free up PP so they can be the first one to buy those way over priced Negro cards. It was amazing what some guys with asking. I saw one card priced at 800,000 PP and one person had already bid on it! That is crazy. |

I have the Rangers one, but the Bombers were re-branded for this year. If you have something in mind for them, that's great. I am not particular. They are a team focused on HRs and Eye.

I actually did one when they were still the Kansas Bombers. Maybe I forgot to put it up or you missed it, or didn't care for it. In any event, here it is again. If it's okay, I'll use it when needed. If it needs work, suggest away. If you like it, it's sized to fit the game. By the way, the one you have now seems fine. Is that game generated? If that's what you want to go with it, just post it or I'll see if I can find it in the game. |

If you can't have Willie...
Sometimes you're working the AH, and you get surprised. Like tonight. I know I have to move on from Mule Haas because the Mundys will be getting promoted, and his numbers are starting to not hang in there as we've moved up. And with a little more than 18,000 to spend, thanks to a sound fiscal approach bolstered by a weird haul yesterday, I figured the next increment would be a piece of cake, get a lefty swinging counterpart to Torrii Hunter for at most a couple of grand, and then judiciously keep improving incrementally.
Then it popped out as I scrolled through with a bigger bankroll than I was used to. It wasn't too hard to kick the tires on most of the 8 to 15K players that popped up. I was only looking for a platoon centerfielder with just okay fielding because of Hunter. If you grew up when I did, and where I did, there was an obvious second choice to Willie Mays. For some people he was the first choice. I am slowly coming to grips with the fact that it's gonna be awhile before an incredible stroke of luck, or an affordable new card issue, gets me a Willie. And I'll be happy with one. In fact I've retired the Willie Mays exception, so that even he will appear on only one of my rosters, should I get so lucky. Back to the story. I was shocked to see that second choice, a 1955 Mickey Mantle for 17,000 with a buy now of 17,500. Now I had never been shopping for a centerfielder with this much money, so I expanded to see if there were others and the only other one available was 29,000/35000, or so. In my excitement I forgot. You bet your ass that my heart won over my head and incrementalism was sidelined for the moment. Meet the new centerfielder for the Port Ruppert Mundys. Torii Hunter will be a helluva backup for all three spots. |

My buddy and I are playing a regular OOTP historical series when we started in 1901. We're in the early 50's now and Willie and the Mick were both in the same draft class. Our New York Giants didn't pick high enough, but we do have Ted Williams at least.

As a side note Stanley, I have 73 of the Topps 1971 coins and about 40 of the Topps 1964 coins. Fun stuff to collect.

Krikkit Finally Joins the Battle in Earnest and Wins the War in OL ST165 2023
In my previous post, I pointed out the race was wide open, and I would like to thank the War Robots for proving me right for a change. With only 6 OL games played heading into September, Krikkit sizzled at an 8-2 pace to capture the stone crown.
I've also attached the PT playoff tree, which contains the possibility of an all OL final, as well as the promotions and the two that remained. I posted that for the curious nature of their positions. Last edited by Stanley Kuppchaser; 04-19-2020 at 06:53 AM. |

Gotta make the donuts...
This is what I came up with. Using the snipped logo got horridly fuzzy as soon as I re-sized it upward, so I incorporated it into the hat. Congratulations. If you like it, I can re-post one without a crown.
