No historical ballparks in OOTP 21?
So I saw the sale price and broke down and got 21 this evening.
I play historical leagues only and using the old mods for the historical ballparks that Silvan put together years ago, in OOTP 19 and 20 really enhanced my enjoyment of the game. Even I play at most 30-40 games of a 162 season with my historical or random debut teams, seeing them play in these old beautiful parks - Ebbets, Polo Ground, Forbes, Crosley, Seals Stadium in SF, the original Yankee Stadium, etc. has made it hard NOT to play this game while I should be working (ahem). But apparently those old ballpark mods don't work in 21, and while there is this potentially cool build your own park 3D tool now, that is not where my fun of this comes from and a supermodern park I designed myself is not seeing old great Hall of Famers playing in historic ballparks. Is there as yet no historical ballparks function or option in the game itself? And assuming not, is there some mod I missed to add-on that would be compatible with OOTP 21? Assuming there is nothing I can do but want to play OOTP 21 instead of just eating the $29.99 (it was 2 less in Euros at least) and continuing to happily play OOTP 20 for the rest of my life, have any of you who do play historical leagues and play random debut etc. found a specific way to make the ballpark experience more rewarding, or seem more authentic? Any of you play around with the ballpark construction tool in a specific way that enables you to make a park SEEM old and authentic at least? Cause this might be a deal-breaker for me. I bought it, so i would like to play it, but if I have to play Babe Ruth, and Jackie Robinson, Sandy Koufax and Al Kaline in the same generic stadium or some modernized version of a generic Cartesian homogeneous stadium that lacks a soul because no fans ever cried or cheered for their real life heroes there, I may pass on it. |

I’m running a league set in 1947 and I’m using user created ballparks for every team in the league, so yes, they still work for XXI.

-Strange, but thank you. I wonder what I am doing wrong. I manually imported for example Fenway under edit ballpark for the Boston team in my league and it said it worked but when I went to play there, it was the same generic stadium that the game comes with. hmm...

Can you open the park in the 3D editor? I always double check that before playing any games...

No I can't open it with the 3D editor.
I have started playing around with the ballpark builder tool and since it does give the background of the actual city teams play in, I might be aesthetically okay with parks I build myself, especially because I knock down wall so to speak and open center field up to trees and fields as a background, which I like. So, maybe I am okay anyway with it. Thanks. |

Yeah, IME I just downloaded the stadia, saved them in the proper place (I know that if you don't put them into the root of the /ballparks folder you lose a bunch of the common assets), and boom, they worked. You might not be able to reference your OOTP20 or earlier folder structure when using them...

There's a really nice historical stadium mod available in the Steam Workshop. I don't play 3D, so I can't comment on how it works in that regard, but it works great with 2D Classic. I'm not computer savvy, but I'm sure someone can point you in the direction of how to get it even if you didn't purchase from Steam.

I had to redownload them into the correct folder for 21 to get them to work myself.
