Impacts of moving from OOTP 21 to 22

My first year with this great game. I'm playing out the Standard Game 2020 season as GM for Cleveland and want to flow into 2021 season next year. When OOTP 22 comes out next March I expect to be in the offseason period. If I buy the new version I am wondering about some impacts it may have on my league aside from the game enhancements themselves such as improved features, AI improvements, etc. Let's say it is offeason in both real time and game time and I have gone through contract negotiations, arb, rule 5 etc and I install OOTP 22: 1. If real Cleveland (or any other team) has signed a posted Japanese player will that player become part of the FA pool in my league? 2. Do real life injuries affect players status in my league? For example, in my league Carlos Carrasco is 100% healthy but in real he sustains a career ending injury in a winter skiing accident. How is this handled when I go to OOTP 22? 3. Say I have a minor league player that has exceeded expectations and I have been grooming him to be major league ready next season. In real he has performed below expectations. What is the impact on this type of player in my league when moving on to OOTP 22? 4. In general if my plan is to buy OOTP 22 is there an ideal game date for me to advance my league to before installing? Dec 31? Jan 31? Other? Last edited by BillyBall; 07-11-2020 at 09:36 AM. |

If you’ve already started a universe, the game does nothing to “real” players inside of it when there’s an upgrade or a patch. That also means that if you want updated, real time ratings, you’ll want to start a brand new universe when 22 comes out. Basically, from the day you first hit the sim button, the players in your universe stop being the players modeled by the devs who did that work: they get random talent hits and bumps, develop and age at their own rate, get angry at you if you have chemistry turned on, get trained at new positions, and so on. If the game engine changes, players might start to perform a little differently (or a lot differently, like when OOTP went to the FIP-based model), but otherwise they’re pretty insulated. IMO the best time to flip over to a new version is during the offseason and before the preseason starts. If you do so after January 1, you’ll avoid having the conversion engine having to deal with Hall of Fame voting, but then I think the conversion engine handles that okay. Otherwise, not doing it while you’re actually playing games is probably preferable, although I converted a league in the middle of a season in 21 and it was fine.

As to your other questions, your game is not going to know anything about the future. After your set up is the future. | ||
