Why one (unnecessary) bad player on the team?

I have only been playing Perfect Team for a few months and really have not looked at other teams' rosters much. I am in a Bronze league this week and noticed every team in my division and several others intentionally have a Bronze level player when they have Gold or Silver level players not being used. These Bronze players do not have any single outstanding rating (like defense or stuff). Also most have all Perfect/Diamond/Gold rosters and then this extra player. They seem to be either RP or outfielders but there may have been one IF.

Is this some deep strategy? A subtle way of tanking? Clubhouse glue guy?
Weird coincidence? It just made me curious.

Could be a defensive wiz or all around utility guy.

This can happen if you list somebody from your active roster on the AH and forget to fill the slot with another player. The next player from a pack that you open will automatically be slotted in, regardless of card level.

Perhaps not what is occurring in your league given the number of teams you stated with this roster oddity, but one potential explanation.

None that I double checked were defensive whizzes or had any exemplary attrtibute. One of them was a utility player type so while it was not a smart strategy at least could make sense.

However, one team was definitely (subtly) tanking it as they had at least 20 unused diamond players. They had decent starters at each position but all the backups were inferior Silver/Bronzes with all the Diamonds not on the roster.

Thanks. This could be the reason in some of the cases. I do not know but this is a possible explanation.

Are these teams close to the bottom in the standings for possible relegation? Did the teams come down from higher level leagues recently? if so, report to the devs so they can investigate?

Most likely explanation though, these teams are inactive and are on Computer cruise control.

So the one with a horrible record only has a few Gold players not being used (with a few Silver and an inexplicable Bronze on the roster). I doubt that constitutes any problem--likely autopilot.

The one with 20 unused Diamond players has good starters but Silvers and two Bronzes on the active bench. They are hovering around .500. This seems more like parking in this league rather than tanking. I looked at the Diamond players and there is a lot of duplicates including 7 versions of same card. Might be trying to corner the market on a favorite player but otherwise not a formal problem I would think.

Seems like a complete non-issue

Unless someone is really ruining the league with an awful 10 win team or something just let people play their game in peace

There is also a theme that is starting to be used, that restricts what you can play. For example, 5 Perfects, 5 diamonds, 6 golds, etc. i do not know the specific numbers but if you check with Dishnet in the Discod, he has a team that is playing that also.

It is actually a kind of cool idea because it forces you to use 1 Iron and I think 3 Bronze, so yu have to pick wisely, or just have some crappy guy in and hope he doesn't get used.

I know if I was doing it... my iron would def be a defensive guy, or maybe a 3rd catcher so I could use my 2nd C as a PH or something. Or use a terrible catcher like Piazza and have a strong defensive (albiet terrible hitting) catcher to back him up late in games.

hah, this was the first thing that came to my mind when I saw this thread, because the rules do require 1 iron card.

if anyone is interested it's called SLOTS and has become quite popular on discord

all over the place, TBH. but I think it's at gold & diamond levels only, so maybe those specific channels are a good place to start, depending what level you're at.

yeah, it uses the friends list. I just joined for 1 week as a curiosity...now back to BFF to get destroyed

That is set up in either gold or diamond level, and you sign up for it in Discord, I think. There is no advantage to running a team like this in a regular league just for the heck of it.

Too rich for my blood; I couldn't come close to fielding enough perfect players to fill those slots, and it looks like it will be awhile before I improve my collection enough to graduate from silver as an FTP player.
I would love it if they formed a scaled down version for the silver/bronze levels.
