1886 Rookie league crazy homeruns

Updated to OOTP22, and noticed in my rookie league hitters are hitting way more homeruns than in previous seasons. This is a fictional league, using "authentic" settings from these years.

I noticed that in the Game Settings "Stats & AI" League Totals, the auto-imported modifiers seem wrong: of 100000 at bats, 1500 homeruns, but a 10.811 modifier!!! where all the other modifiers are between 0.87 and 2.3. Did the update miss something?

You're not the first person to complain about an inexplicable power surge in the mid-1880s. I'm not sure what's going on here. I think you may have correctly identified the problem as having to do with the modifier. I never mess with those because I'm not entirely sure how they work, so someone else who knows more about them would have to explain how to fix it.

Well, there's definitely something broken. When a minor league first baseman with a power rating of 31/250 hits 36 homeruns in 186 plate appearances . . . yeah.

I can't speak to the 1880's portion of this scenario, but I did experience odd inflated homer totals in my fictional league in that save's 1981 season in the minor leagues.
It did appear that something had gone awry with the statistical modifiers for the minors but I went in and made sure that just prior to the start of the next season I went through each level of the minors and manually chose the 1982 statistical modifiers for every level and this season everything is back to normal, with the homer totals in the minors basically matching the major league statistical environment.

I don't know how much you can fix this for an ongoing season, but I would think that adjusting the modifiers for homers at each level of your minor league systems should start to get things back to normal.

EDIT: Sorry, I don't feel like that was very clear. Long work week, Friday night fuzziness, and watching the Tigers-Blue Jays game so probably a bit preoccupied. So to bottom line it: I feel your pain, it can be fixed.

Playing with year-by-year settings here, it seems that my rookie league modifiers are not importing the same as my major-league modifiers. Those rookie modifiers (the total ABs, hits, doubles, etc.) stay the same no matter what year I select - although I did find what seems to be an actual bug:

De-selecting and re-selecting the "Automatically adjust league totals modifiers for accuracy" results in those modifiers (under the 'modifers' column, not the totals column) changing, and become more and more extreme each time I de-select and re-select this. The same effect occurs no matter what league I actually have selected, although right now my 'rookie' had the most extreme numbers.

A patient goes to the doctor and says "Doc, it hurts when I do this." The doctor replies, "don't do that."

This has been demonstrated to be true.

I have a small league, so what I do may not be practical if you have a large one with multiple levels of minors or foreign leagues, but I create a copy of the game file on opening day and sim through the end of the season to verify that the end statistics are about what I'd expect them to be -- both for the league as a whole, as well as for player leaderboards. If something seems way off, I may watch that stat closely and tinker with the League Modifiers if necessary.
