I love ties, and don't understand the reluctance to them. There's just something about a nice flashy tie that pairs with the right dress shirt (and possibly jacket) to really make the whole outfit pop.

Glad we have the option to use them, even if we never do.

One question I have on this, from a stats perspective, if a pitcher pitches a the whole game in a 0-0 tie, does he get a CG and a Shutout? Just a CG? Neither? And, of course, do No Hitters and Perfect Games count in a 0-0 tie? |

Personally I'm cool with a tie after 9. If neither team was able to win after 9 nobody really deserves a win. You had a whole game to win already. Anything is better than the endless extra innings though. That has always been the worst way to handle things. Most sports end up with extra periods being exciting, baseballs is just boring. It is waiting for one team to run out of pitchers. The runner on 2nd makes it a little better at least. Last edited by EnderCN; 04-20-2022 at 01:02 PM. | |

The level of excitement I have for the new ties feature personally, is well, akin to when there is a tie in any game

Wow. If you add up all the tie votes, they're actually beating the never vote! I didn't think that would be the case. That's cool to see.

The option that we don't have is the way that MLB historically treated ties - i.e. tied games that were called (usually because of darkness) would go into the books as ties. No limit on innings, just a limit imposed by the rotation of the earth. I'm running a league right now that is in 1901 and I have a 15-inning limit on games. I think that's a reasonable approximation of the MLB rule at the time. I've been getting about 3-5 ties in a single season for 16 teams.

I mean, I won't use the new rules either, as annoyed as I get when the first %*@&(#(&%#( game of a #@(%&# doubleheader goes 17 innings... except for spring training, where MLB absolutely allows ties. Kissing your sister is completely legal in the month of March in the state of Florida.

In a 162 game schedule with after 10 innings a tie is recorded, no team had over 7 ties. Not bad.

Instead of ties, do a 10th inning Homerun derby between 2 players. It would be like a shootout in Hockey.

Not a big fan of modern baseball rules but I don't even like the DH. No special reason just grew up as a NL fan for the DH and happy memories growing up in previous decades so creating something in the past appeals to me.

The “after midnight” option got me thinking. Years past, many cities had ordinances prohibiting an inning starting after a certain time. In Philly it was 12:45 am or something weird like that. Not sure if games were declared ties, or to be resumed at a later date. Either way, the clock solution avoids wearing down the bullpens, and could allow the tied game to resume on an off day, which is better, and can be anticipated. Why not that? Anything is better than the “ghost runners”.

Ties are ahistorical. Not using them. But to each his own.

I'm curious what happens if Modified extra innings are set to Spring + Regular Season, and Ties to say, 'after 15' - would the ties still occur in the playoffs?

I support games being ties after nine innings. And make it retroactive so Harvey Haddix gets his no hitter back.
