Forced demotion/release of players at playoff time?
So the 2021 Mets are in the playoffs (because this isn't real life
). On 9/1, I added two players to the roster as allowed for September -- one callup and Noah Syndergaard coming off the DL after rehab. This left me with six starting pitchers on the roster: DeGrom, Carrasco, Kluber (traded for), Stroman, Walker, and Syndergaard. For the playoffs I only need four starters, so I want to leave Carrasco and one of the others off the playoff roster to get to 26. But I can find no option to leave a player off the playoff roster -- rather I see only options to demote or release, and Carrasco (and some others) refuse to be demoted. Unless I am missing something, this is a bug, and a rather serious one if one is playing more than one season.

Interesting. I was not aware that, in real life, veteran players could simply be left off the playoff roster. Can you point me to an example? Lookiing at the playoff roster rules at MLB.com they specify who can be on the roster but make no mention of what happens to vetern players left off. It does seem that the playoff roster is seperate from the regular roster, I just never thought about it.

Another point: are you using OOTP GO or just OOTP? Because in my version as well as MLB Manager 2015, I've always been able to demote any veteran I wanted to the minors, regardless or contract or injury status. Pretty unrealistic. I assume this was to avoid implementing the full 40 man roster rules but really, the game could capture most of the effect of the 40 man rule by not allowing players who have ML contracts other than arbitration to be demoted. Just as bad is that I can't replace a player injured during a playoff series -- one of these years I'm going to have both catchers injured or three starting pitchers or some such disaster.

Thanks. Then the problem as far as the game goes is that players must be placed somewhere, and the game has not implemented a place for players on the 40 man roster who are neither on the active roster nor the minors. But unless this has been changed in a patch I haven't installed, doesn't OOTP GO allow any player to be demoted to the minors?

If you are using the playoff roster rules, then you can specify a separate "playoff roster" and regular roster, so you can easily leave players off the playoff roster. However, if you do not have the playoff roster rules enabled, then anyone not on the playoff roster would have to be sent to the minors. |
