Newbie question

I will be buying OOTP 26, but have not played OOTP as yet.
A couple of questions. I have limited time to play because of my work (and my life!) I'm also a lifelong Yankee fan and while I did very well in Scoresheet Baseball I stopped because I got tired of rooting for players who were beating the Yankees and also just didn't have the time an interactive league should take.

a) When playing solo, as I will, will I be able to create a team that has only Yankee players? I do know that will limit quality in some positions, but I'm fine with that.

b) Will I be able manage individual games through a season?

c) Will I be able to act as the pitcher and select each pitch? I can do that in MLB 9 Innings 24 on my iPad. It's fun to do that though a limited game. Other games that have that option? OOTP not having that would not be a deal breaker tho!

I will appreciate any helpful advice. Thanks

a) you can play with MLB players on their teams or create a fantasy draft. You can use historical players that you import to your team. You can also use fictional players.
b) you can manage individual games. You can also simulate full games or simulate part of a game by simming X innings and then play out the rest of the game.
c) you can play with one pitch or full pitches mode.
I suggest you watch some OOTP videos on YouTube. There are tutorials and game action. Watch for sales of OOTP or wait until the next release.

As for C No, you can not pick what pitches you throw as they really do not matter and are just flavor. The game takes in account movement, control, pBABIP, then all the batters ratings to decide the pitching and hitting.

That's what I guessed.

Do you know of any Mac OS game
that has a good upside where you can do that with MLB teams?

That is like OOTP? Nope. I mean if only because you can't choose your pitch like in MLB The Show is the issue, then you are really missing out.

In 7 days, get the game for like $15 or $20 bucks off Steam during the Winter Sale and try it out. This game gives you WAY more than even MLB the show gives you especially historical play!

MLB Rivals is the closest on PC/Mac. Also owned by same parent company as OOTP

More than one way to skin that cat. can do historical play starting from a particular year or import any historical yankee that is in the database to any league you create (can make import lists if you got a bunch of names to fill out a roster. Refer to manual for comma-delimited formatting on that -- "unique id, year" per line? they typically match the playerid from baseball-reference.com. I'm assuming "lastname-first initial then a number" for a unique id.

The options for historical leages are wide and varied. It might take you a version or two before you refine exactly how you want a league setup. you'll learn new stuff and want to customize it. Same goes for fictional leagues importing a roster of yankee players.

b) Will I be able manage individual games through a season?

Yes

c) Will I be able to act as the pitcher and select each pitch? I can do that in MLB 9 Innings 24 on my iPad. It's fun to do that though a limited game. Other games that have that option? OOTP not having that would not be a deal breaker tho!

You don't select a pitch. Just various pitch to batter options and other actions you can assume, like hit batter, walk batter, mound visit blah blah blah.

This engine 'rolls' a seed per PA or AB whatever the technicality is. The point is it is not rolled per pitch, unless that changed in 24 or 25? Wide ranging effects, so i doubt it.

it creates an obvious eploitation, but you simply have to choose not to do it and it won't impact regular play. Since probabily of 'better results' and failure is determined at the start of a PA, you can take as many picthes as possible before swinging at a pitch. This virtually gaurantees a very depleted staff and bullpen by the 3rd and 4th game. I haven't tried this in several versions but it would take a serious revision of the game engine to eliminate it. changing the smallest increment of the primary part of a baseball game will have some wide ranging effects :P
