Create your own player

Is there a way to create your own player and insert them into a season (as a free agent, or whatever)?

That is incorrect.

You can enter the Free Agent screen, select create a fictional player (it will assign a random name), search for that player and edit him to your hearts content.

I'm having trouble figuring out how to do this. I just started a new league and went to the free agent screen, but I don't see the option.

This feature is not available in iOOTP. However, it is available in the PC/MAC version of the game.

2013 version of iootp will have editing features in the next update but currently you cannot create or edit a player.
