Any way to edit coaches .dat file?

Noob here - just wondering if there was a utility or program out there that will let me edit some .dat files. ( Iam playing ootp 12) I wanted to move some coaches around (namely have Ryne Sandberg coach my Orioles!) I have found that I can't simply fire Showalter and hire Sandberg away from his AAA team. Any ideas?

You should be able to accomplish this in-game if you turn on Commissioner mode.
