Controlling Minor League Players
Still learning everything in OOTP18.
How do you change a player's position or a reliever to a starter for specific minor league players' if you want the AI to control everything else? When I do it, the AI changes the starting pitcher right back to a reliever. I would like to manually change/control a few of the players, but I'm not ready to control everything in the minors, I'd rather let the AI do it and just handle exceptions. Thanks |

multiple ways to get there... but right click the player's name in any list and click "set game strategy" [sic] ... once there you can see its location (Team strategy -> player strategy tab - select league with dropdown box to change level)
Force postions - drop down to force a position ![]() also, this is where you "Lock" a player to a specific level, if you want to control their promotion and demotions, but delegate as normal with all others not locked. it's a checkbox. so, you can lock and force a positions on this screen.. if you delegate the "rest" after any change or promotion you likely want to go to Roster and Transactions screen -- multiple tiles showing various levels of your organization -- go to " "Available actions" at top-right and click "have ai set up entire minor league system" becareful... right next to that is "ask ai set up ENTIRE organization" ... you probably won't be happy with the work accidentally clicking that causes. if you forget, no worries... you delegate this stuff so advancing a day will fix it... but, if you play a game "that" day some rosters may be down a player if you moved them etc... or not a 'starter' that day of promotion. fyi: the only real benefit to controlling the rest is slightly better records in your minor leagues... you can always just focus a slight more on 1 team and make sure it's more than solid... easily develop reputations of future coaches etc... i don't think winning teams has a significant effect, if any at all, on development, so no worries there. i'd defintely micro-manage any high-end prospects or any player you recognize as having some value... bench player, trade piece etc. the Lock icon that shows up makes it easy to identify them on teh rosters and transaction screen... you can feasibly doall the promo/demotions on one screen with a few click and drags. Thanks!
I was using set game strategy, but that would be over-ridden by the AI. |

i assume you mean you see it now? just in case: "Lock to current Minor League Level" check box or the AI will undo anything you do if it is delegated to do so.
other stuff on that screen is worthwhile: the player strategy sliders will be relative to the manger's strategies, FYI. e.g. if the manager is LOW stealing... a middle of the road player stealing strategy is relative to that LOW stealing rate... definitely worth extra fine tuning per player's ability... e.g. i have a 1 tick down to middle of the road SB slider kinda guy. but, a 100/100 speed/steal and i up it until i see their %success dip... ~4-5 ticks up and they can near ~100SB even with my middle of the road SB slider preference.. and that's not maxing the player's slider. (depends on League Totals and Modifiers, et al., on STats and AI settings) unless of course you change that player to "Ignore team strategy" as opposed to "adjust to team strat" first one is semantically correct but maybe not syntactically. if that is the case, the slider(s) works on its own to control frequency of various attempts. set game strategy wil only set teh team strategy based on whom you asked - bench coach or manager (mainly if human Manager). pretty sure the manager, if AI, will reset it unless you tick the "lock strategy" box. comissioner mode needed for that to be visible. |
