Expansion question

Hi all. I'm wondering if you can do this: I'd like to have an expansion of a real-life league, but be able to have the expansion teams have a minor league a season BEFORE they come into existence (not sure if this ever happened in real life). I was thinking I could go into commissioner mode and add two new minor league teams at various levels and not give them an affiliation, but I don't know how I would populate these teams. I also thought perhaps an existing team would affiliate them automatically. Thoughts?

That would work, and that's how I'd do it. Make sure the teams have a few days before their season starts so they can fill their rosters. You may have to manually move some guys from the computer-generated minor league teams after the draft.

This is actually a good idea, I'll try it next time I do an expansion

you can make them unaffiliated... it would take more than a ~year to fill it.. it's definitely not so easily defined as far as what you need to do. maybe rookie/sa then a then aa and aaa levels in a staggered release, but what if some players develop too fast? they'll be stuck.

the expansion draft may handle this stuff more smoothly, eh? maybe bump # of rounds in years leading up to expansion so that mil is flush? (once in league, unless they have more of a particular level than anyone else, you don't need to change # of draft rounds, it will scale. if they are now the "most" rookie teams @4 > previous 3max, that's different. in those contexts you may need more rounds)

filling mil teams creates really terrible players, btw. they will be mostly stuck at the level they were created by their ability and potential. you can affect this by fiddling with MiL level Sabermetric PCMs, i believe. they get spit out mostly developed though... so potential is still going to be ~low more likely than decent for mlb, or else you'll have a full team of ~mlb talent.

maybe there's a motivation to do this that i just dont' see, but it seems to be alot of extra work for soemthign that won't function as well as an expansion draft and the ai associated with that.
