Online Multiplayer - Crossplatform and Other

I'm thinking about buying this game - and I've never played any of the previous versions. It looks like something I'd love, but I have some questions.

Can you play online with a friend? Meaning, can a friend control one team, and me control another, and we play through the seasons together?

Also, is it cross-platform between Steam and PS4?

I’ve been trying to figure out the same thing. I want to play live, on the same screen, with someone in Ohio and I’m in Nashville. So, far, disappointingly I can’t see the way to do that but I’m about to post the question myself. The game is cool and becomes addicting but there is a big learning curve. The more you discover the more fun it gets though!
