Historical Rookies Too Good

For some reason I keep having unrealistic results with the new minor leaguers that are introduced into the game each year. For example, I created a historical league starting in 1997. In 1998 C.C. Sabathia was added to Cleveland's roster and finished 3rd in Cy Young voting with a 6.0 WAR. In reality he didn't make it out of A ball until 2000 and he didn't have spectacular minor league numbers that would at all suggest he would have been this successful if he were put into the majors in 1998.

What am I doing wrong to get these unreasonable results? I have historical recalcs turned on.

Next time you start a league, go to the advanced settings, which are only available as you create the league, not anytime after.

Play around with the two settings about adjusting and weakening hitters and pitchers.

You can put the Innings much lower for both. Then once you create the game, check what you are using as a recalcs - one year, three year or five year. If five year, that would overcome the missing seasons in the MLB for rookies, and the three year might as well. You can turn it down to 3 from 5 or to 1 from 3. Also, you can double the impact of the current year - these are all in the historical league settings.

That should tone it down a bit for players who current seasons should not be earth-shaking. One more place: in the league settings, under "players and facegen" scroll down and put the Talent Change randomness lower - 100 is average, but average for the game means sometimes significant differences in how players perform. 0 is min. and 200 is max. I sometimes put it as low as 50 or 20 if I want more realistic outcomes based on historical performances.

Then, I would go to global settings and hit "run full re-scouting". I have never understood if this changes the ratings only as GMs on other teams and your see them, or actual performance, but you will see some number changes.

One last option - go to the AI settings and play with those - you can drop the ratings or the current year impact and increase the previous year or two impact as a percentage of 100 and that should weaken rookies. It will also strengthen older players that had a good season a year or two ago but are now dragging. So be aware of that.
