OOTP Staff -- 12 of us just bought the new version. Please help?

A dozen of us have bought multiple versions over many years, always playing random-debut historical with neutralized stats. We just bought 21 to start a new league, only to find out neutralized stats don't work with the native database.

We really need a couple of very simple questions answered to know whether OOTP21 is of any use to us:

1. Is there ANY way to make neutralized stats work with this version?

2. If so, how? Lukas mentioned using an older database, but I tried two of Spritze's, and the neutralized stats they import are insane.

Thank you very much for any help. Twelve loyal customers await your reply.

If you play random debut leagues, you do not need neutralized stats, as the player ratings are neutralized automatically on the fly anyway, so it's redundant.

However, I just tested neutralized stats being the ratings base for a normal historical league, so it does work. So, what exactly do you mean by "only to find out neutralized stats don't work with the native database"?

Some of the confusion here mght've been my fault, because when I got an email about getting weird results using neutralized stats, I'd replied saying that as far as I knew they didn't work with the regular db. I seem to remember there being some issues and having a discussion with Chuck about it a while ago. But I might've been misremembering or gotten something wrong

Hi Markus -- thanks very much for the reply.

What we're looking for is the "leveled playing field" between the old-timers and more modern guys, so: Ty Cobb and Tris Speaker having high Power Ratings, and Walter Johnson and Rube Waddell having excellent Stuff ratings alongside Pedro Martinez and Randy Johnson. This has worked perfectly by selecting neutralized stats for recalc, at least from version 13 to 18.

When I loaded up players from all eras and started testing in our new 21 league, players seemed to import in this era-neutralized way, but after one recalc they all seemed to revert to non-neutralized: Cy Young’s Stuff was 27/100, Honus Wagner’s Power 16/100, across the board. Just the way they would look using regular stats.

We still have active leagues in both OOTP13 and OOTP 18 where this works perfectly just by choosing to base recalc on neutralized stats. I'm just trying to figure out how to make it work in version 21. If possible. If not, just let me know and we'll go back to the most recent version where it works.

Thanks again very much for the help.

Mike
