QuickStart issue - Dream Bracket zip

I tried to grab the Dream Bracket quickstart from here and followed the instructions:

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...d.php?t=315719

But after putting the zip in the quick starts folder and unzipping it... I see the MLB_Dream_Bracket option when I go to create a quick start game... but when I select it, I can name my game but the Create Game but is still grayed out and it still has this message:

***** This quickstart game must be loaded from our server before you can use it. Please open the Add-Ons Central in the Game menu, locate the quickstart game in the files list, then download and install it. *****

When I go to that location, I am not seeing any files there... but besides, I think the files I need are in the right folder already. ???

I would guess you may have unzipped the file so that there's an extra level of folders.

Make sure the folder structure in your saved_games folder where you unzipped the file looks like this:

Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 21\saved_games\MLB_Dream_Bracket.lg

and not like this: Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 21\saved_games\MLB_Dream_Bracket.lg\MLB_Dream_Brac ket.lg

Thanks Lukas... the issue was with the quicksave folder. I noted that the various folders there have a zip in them, so that is what I made sure to mirror for this one. Doing that did enable the Create Game button, so that was good!

But then when I tried to proceed, I've hit another issue... after reaching 90% or more, it says ERROR... the world.dat file is missing. I found that there is a world.dat file, alongside other .dat files, in the quickstart. And it is getting copied over to the game folders -- I've tried twice, and it is getting copied over. So not sure what else could be going wrong here, or if the ERROR message is misleading in some way and the issue isn't a missing world.dat after all?

Much appreciate your assistance!

It's possible that the world.dat is corrupt, so you might want to delete everything and redownload and try again in case it did get corrupted at some point.

Thanks again Lukas... good thought, so I tried that, but same error message:

"OOTP cannot load this database because the file world.dat is missing!"

Can you try to download the same zip I am and see what happens for you? It is from Markus' post here:

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...d.php?t=315719

Alternately... is there a different location where I can download this quickstart?

Oh, I see the problem. This isn't in saved game format, it's in quickstart format. I told you to put it in the saved_games directory. That's my bad!

It needs to go in the Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 21\quickstart_games folder.

Sorry about that!

No worries... I have been working in the quickstart folder anyway. But the problem is still arising, even though I am indeed treating it as a quickstart.

Any other ideas? Have you tried testing the quickstart yourself? Is the world.dat file error message arising for you?

Hi again Lukas or others... any other advice here? Have you been able to test the quickstart yourself and get it to work? I am really hoping to start using this on the weekend, but for now I'm stumped as to how to proceed.

My apologies, didn't notice your last message

I checked it out, and the issue seems to be that the quickstart isn't really properly zipped up to work as a quickstart. That's our mistake!

What you'll want to do is actually just to follow my directions above and unzip this as a regular saved game. That will allow you to open and play the league.

If you have trouble with that, let me know and I can see about rezipping and uploading a new version of the file.

Hi Lukas... I just tried that, but it isn't working. When I try to Load Game, it says there are no league folders in the saved games folder. I checked in settings, to make sure that my installation is still looking at the right location for saved games (even though I just installed the game, and have made no odd changes), and it is because I clicked open saved games folder and there is the one I created per your instructions above.

So... could you recreate the zip as a proper quick start game so I can load it up as such?

One thing you'll need to do for the game to load it as a regular league is to rename the folder from MLB_dream_bracket.quick to MLB_dream_bracket.lg. Maybe that will help solve the issue?

I did that... but just to check... here is what I have as the filepath:
C:\Users\Thomas.Stone\Documents\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 21\saved_games\MLB_Dream_Bracket.lg\MLB_Dream_Brac ket.lg

... and inside that folder is all the files from the zip, which is ten subfolders, and a bunch of .dat and .txt files.

Did I do something wrong?

Looks like one level too deep in extracting. Should be .../saved_games/MLB_dream_bracket.lg/world.dat (and all other similar files)

Success! I wondered about that! Sometimes zips are supposed to have an extra folder of nesting, but sometimes not. Thank you! All set here now!

Hey guys... so I'm starting to use this set of rosters, but I don't want to use them in the tournament mode like the Dream Bracket was last year. I want to use these rosters and have them play full 162 game seasons against each other. I tried creating six divisions instead of having all the teams in just one big division, but then I couldn't figure out how to change the schedule mode to be a regular 162 game season and not the bracket tournament mode that comes with this saved game. Can you help? Where do I go in the settings to make this schedule change?

Never mind... I think it needed to cycle to an offseason time period. I was then able to turn off playoffs, and set 162 games as regular season. That seemed to do what I needed, as I was then able to walk through a season, month by month, and watch as the standings shifted, league leaders developed, etc. So far so good for what I'm trying to do here... this first run of a season with these teams produced sensible results:
Best teams were Red Sox, Yankees, Reds, Dodgers, Giants
BA leaders were Cobb, Alomar, Gwynn, Boggs
HR leaders were Gehrig, Ruth, Schmidt, Foxx
Hitting K leaders were Gorman Thomas, Ryan Howard
Pitching K leaders were P. Martinez, Randy Johnson x2, Nolan Ryan x2
ERA leaders were Gibson, P.Martinez
... fun stuff!
