Expos Hope For More Consistent Offense
The Expos Manager and Coaches held a meeting after today's victory against the Braves looking for a solution to the team's inconsistent offense. "Our offense was inconsistent. We were lucky to win tonight" said Expos Manager Dick Williams. The Expos were shut out in three different innings and in addition lost the first inning despite scoring two runs. Hitting Coach Mickey Vernon could be under pressure to spread the runs over more innings and more games. Wasting runs - the Expos scored 22 more than they needed to win - is a big reason for the team's mediocre 57-51 record this year. One solution could be for the Expos to swing for the fences more to cut down on big innings. They hit only one Home Run tonight. At some time in the future Dusty Baker will immortalize the concept by saying "Home Runs kill rallies". Another possibility is that the Expos will bench some regulars and only bring them into games when runs are needed. Its clear the Expos are exploring multiple solutions to fixing their inconsistent offense. All fans everywhere should wish them luck. |

Breazeale for the Braves might deserve a firefighter award for the day considering he got 4 outs with a strikeout, gave up just a hit, and no earned runs to end the embarrassment when your team's bats were obviously "en fuego."
Not bad considering the other Braves' pitchers averaged 7+ hits and 6+ runs during the massacre, and are in currently trying to calculate how many days and future outings it will take to lower their respective ERAs to something presentable again (ok, at least two will need Excel to figure that out). |

And when he finished the top of the ninth he was the potential winning pitcher. His team mates let him down in the bottom half.

And for some reason I don't understand Dick Williams really love Wayne Garrett even if he hit below a .200 average BTW if the thanks function wouldn't have been removed you would have got one for sure just for the laugh...
