Lockout Baseball- Integrated History of MLB from 1871
Hey everyone, been a while since I posted on here for various reasons not withstanding a bad taste in my mouth that I had from being on here a few months ago. But this project I will be streaming during the Lockout in MLB until it is resolved, maybe beyond for the fun of it. It will be a look at MLB history from an integrated, semi-historical viewpoint starting in 1871. A way to see how professional baseball was, with historical franchises, players, statistical baselines, schedules along with integration from the beginning.
https://www.twitch.tv/legends_sports I will also include my thoughts on topics of the day in Baseball, including the recent Hall of Fame votes, Negro Leagues Baseball history and more. I am up to conversation number 67 with authors, historians, researchers, simulation game players, artists, musicians, you name it. You can find those on the Youtube channel as well along with quite a few other player videos from Baseball In Living Color. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC8i...DWg8d1tAPPA2og Friday I had on author Kristy Nerstheimer and her recent children's book on Buck O'Neil. Today Monday at noon CST, award winning author Audrey Vernick, who has written several dozen books including quite a few on baseball history and has a new book coming out in January on the life of Larry Doby. Doing some giveaways of one of a kind card art, some other things going on Twitter, check it out. Would love to get your thoughts on these as well, but as I've mentioned about the bad taste I had from a few months ago, I'm not going to engage with anyone posting nonsense. I'm sure you can understand! Thanks guys! https://twitter.com/LegendsSports3

1871 featured the inclusion of about 25 historical Black Baseball players including Octavius Cato, Charles Douglass, Isaac Irons, George Hopkins, Arthur Peterson and more. Fleet Walker comes into the draft pool in 1873, brother Welday on his way in a few more seasons as well. Each season will include a few historical Black Baseball and Negro Leagues players.

Lockout Baseball Day 6- 1877 season welcomes Bud Fowler
The Hartford Dark Blues, behind the pitching of Charmer Zettlein and Candy Cummings, and the stellar play of John Bass, Wee Davey Force and Doug Allison successfully defending their AL pennant and won their first ever league championship in 1876. The defeated the Chicago Whitestockings in a tight 7 game World Series.
Follow along with the comings and goings of franchises, from the Fort Wayne Kekiongas to the Middletown Mansfields, Brooklyn Eckfords, Philadelphia Centennials as they come and go in the chaotic early days of Baseball. Watch as well the careers of Al Spalding, Lipman Pike, Orator Shaffer, Jim O'Rourke and other stars are joined through integration with Octavius Cato, George Hopkins, Fleet Walker and other early stars of Black Baseball history. 1877 will see the appearances of Bud Fowler, recently inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame, along with Shep Trusty, Ben Boyd and others as seasons progress and we play out a simulated, integrated Major League Baseball history while we also count the Lockout Days. https://www.twitch.tv/legends_sports https://twitter.com/LegendsSports3

Lockout Baseball day 9- 1882 to 1884 & talking rule changes through history
Coming up at noon CST today- Lockout Baseball Day 9. Will play 1882 to 1884 in the integrated history of MLB from 1871 project. Just wrapped up the 1881 season. A lot of poetic license so we can have a history of baseball with Black Baseball and Negro League players in from the beginning, but also give it a more traditional feel with 2 leagues and a World Series. Also not quite the same crazy statistics of pitchers starting every game and winning 60 in a season, tried to tone that down a bit by forcing 2 and 3 man rotations if possible. Wasn't the same game back then as I talk about in these videos and always cracks me up that some people are okay with those statistics in the MLB record book but oh no, can't have Black Baseball and Negro League statistics in there. They are major leagues now.
https://www.twitch.tv/legends_sports Still time to get in on the card giveaways from Baseball In Living Color https://twitter.com/LegendsSports3/s...637820929?s=20

Fabulous stuff. I’m following with great interest. Here’s a question for you. What (if anything) did you do about the Union Association in 1884? MLB officially considers it a major league, given the quality of players, before it folded. I ask because the Wilmington Quicksteps played games (very briefly) just up the street from where I live. I am working on a sim where the UA has a better chance of becoming a third major league, and surviving 1884. Things were very fluid back then, and it would only have taken a few more solid franchises (more money) for the UA to be competitive. Including players of color would have expanded the talent pool, which was stretched pretty thin by all of the teams in three leagues.

Thank you! I really appreciate that! I really haven't put much thought into how the game is handling players and teams prior to the Modern Era. I have been importing the players as early as I can age wise into the rookie pool and doing some adjustments as well as importing the Black Baseball history players, but letting the game move the franchises around. A lot of poetic license here and more to get the integration has been the focus, but I agree that several early leagues and teams could have made a bigger impact but many suffered in the 1870's through early 1890's with economics because of the financial conditions of the country at the time.
