Voices of the Game Text File - Additional PbP - of baseball's announcers

Over the last several weeks/months, and for what I anticipate to be the long-term future, I've have been making additional entries in the English.html file in the game - which handles most of the in-game play by play functions. The main purpose of my efforts is to bring additional content to the play-by-play within the game, while at the same time giving it an additional historical broadcaster functionality to it. The idea is to take actual play-by-play of real MLB broadcasters and add it into the current file.

I've summarized my intentions and current progress as follows....
  • Started with edited English.html file by beepollen posted here--this is not fully the case, adjusting back to this for future version
  • Added 3057 lines to that file thus far
  • Content taken from various sources
  • Catchphrases of All of the Games Announcers - both from the past and the current radio and television airwaves
  • Play-by-Play pulled from transcripts of actual game broadcasts found on the internet, mainly old radio broadcasts posted on YouTube
  • Suggestions from Previous Threads in this Forum
  • Will Take Future Suggestions from this thread
  • Ever Evolving File
  • Slow process - already have more content than I could probably ever use
  • Usually some type of random selection process as to what gets added

I hope that others will find these additions enjoyable.

I caution that I am not very good with html....although much better today than I was in November.

Therefore, when you notice errors, please help me to fix them. Correcting the errors will always take priority. And it will also move a suggestion of yours to the front of the queue for inclusion. If you find errors - please post them here with as much detail to the play by play on screen. Errors could include mismatched copy - content that doesn't match play, typos, or anything else noticed.

PLEASE NOTE:
There is a current parsing error that shows as an unknown argument in obj - Despite searching I can't find it. And since you can click through the error when opening a league file, and it has not caused any additional in-play errors during my game play, I have decided to post the file even with the error. But I make no guarantee that the file will work in your system.

Refer to the OOTP online help manual for how to best replace the english.html file. I recommend that you keep a copy of the replaced english.html file for future use, should you want it. I also believe that you will need reload the englishVOG.html after each game patch and update. The englishVOG.html file must be renamed english.html to properly work within the game.

I am placing the file on a shared Google Drive, the link to follow, and will update it as I make changes. Thus far those changes have routinely come on a daily basis.

If you have suggestions, please include them within this thread, and cite the broadcaster that the content is from. I don't want to include play by play that you would use, rather for it all to be historical. And if I have doubts about the content being actual used by a major league broadcaster in the past, I will error on the side of caution and not include it if I can't find where it come from. I don't really expect this to be an issue, but I do want everyone to realize my intentions.

Looks like this line of code:
Quote:
<OBJ id="99000" text="Now here is [%personname f l], playing [%batter position] for [%teamab] in his gray uniform stepping into the box">
produced this PBP:

I adjusted for this....but it does not resolve the parser error on my end.

Working on going back to your latest update and reincorporating my adjustments into that, as it does appear I may have botched that process in the early stages.

Haven't given up on this.....just dealing with a few computer issues that have slowed me down quite a bit....that's the negative.....also gave me some time to think about exactly what might be best here......

commentator specific
team specific
period specific
etc....

Stay tuned....likely next week with an update or two.

Version 6 uploaded...

as always appreciate the feedback...especially corrections.

That said, I did add a few Jerry Coleman bloopers "He's under the warning track" etc...so it might not be a typo, it might be as intended. But if you think it's wrong or it doesn't work right in the game, let me know. I'm getting better and more efficient, but often times things might not pop up in my gameplay, so your feedback is important

Wow - nice timing. Came here for some feedback; see that the new version is up. Welp, I'll finish the game I'm doing, then upgrade.

OK, the feedback...

On infield errors, PbP seems to default to:
Quote:
<OBJ id="229647" text="then he drops it for an error!(nl)He had it in his glove but lost it.(nl)If Casey Stengel were alive today, he'd be spinning in his grave.">
<COND id="142" value="1977"/>
For troubleshooting purposes, it's always the game's first infield error, but doesn't repeat after that. (CAUTION: small sample size.)

Another: For "Holy cow," cow doesn't need to be capitalized.

Good job...pbp is important, especially to us dinosaurs who spent long-ago summers listening to ballgames on old, cheap, plastic transistor radios. Here are a few Rich Ashburn goodies from the 70s for your consideration:
"The game looks easy from up here." With a guy on first taking a big lead: "He looks runnerish." And this gem, after the opposition second baseman took a bad hop grounder in a sensitive area. After a few minutes of writhing on the ground, the afflicted infielder arose to the cheers of the crowd, and Ashburn remarked, "Way to hang in there, if you'll pardon the expression."

Grew up watching and listening to a lot of Phillies games....will get them in there sometime in the near future. Stay patient
